A. Product Affected:-
 Alternators with AVR R120 and R121

B. Issue

 Voltage Issues and Fuse Failure.


 Post receipt of failed part at HO (AVR), it has been observed in majority cases the replaced AVR has
been found OK.

C. Service Information

 Before replacement of AVR at field, kindly ensure to follow the check points provided in the SOP. This
SOP will be helpful in identifying the failure of AVR and avoid unnecessary replacement at field.

Procedure

For R120 and R121

Ensure the Fuse healthiness before


check.
 Remove the green cover.
 Check the fuse and replace if
blown or missing.

Step 1. Diode Check


(Note :- Keep Multi meter in diode test mode)

a) Check the -ve Probe (Black Wire) to F1 and +ve Probe (Red Wire) to F2 meter read should be 0.3 to 0.5
V.

b) Check the +ve Probe (Red Wire) to F1 and -ve Probe (Black Wire) to F2 meter read should be 0L.

Step 2. Continuity Check


(Note :- Keep the multi meter in Continuity Mode)

a) Connect the multi meter probes to F1 and N terminal. The continuity to be observed with the beep
sound

b) Connect the multi meter probes to U and fuse terminal (as shown in the picture). The continuity to be
observed with the beep sound

Step 3. Resistance Check (Only for R120)


(Note :- Keep the multi meter in Resistance Mode)

a) Connect the multi meter probe to V and N1 terminal, the meter should read >200 Kohms.

b) Connect the multi meter probe to U and N1 terminal, the meter should read >0.99 Mohms.

Step 1. Diode Check


(Note :- Keep the multi meter in Diode Mode)

a) Check the -ve Probe (Black Wire) to F1 and +ve Probe (Red Wire) to F2 meter read should be 0.3 to 0.5 V.
