WHY IN Mumbai to get its third airport: Ajit Pawar
announces big plans in Maharashtra's

About: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, who also heads the state's finances, on Monday
announced plans of a third airport in Mumbai while presenting the state's Budget for FY26.

• Pawar, speaking in the state assembly, said that Mumbai's new airport will be proposed near
Vadhvan port and Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train station will be near this port.

• Currently, India's financial hub has two airports, Chhatrapati Sivaji Maharaj International
Airport (CSMIAL) located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and the other airport
in Navi Mumbai, which is likely to be operational in this year.

• He said that 85 per cent work of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL) has been
completed and trials are completed, too.

• Pawar also said that the Vadhvan port, situated in Maharashtra's Palghar district, will be
operational by 2030. Meanwhile, the deputy CM of Maharashtra highlighted that the MMR
is being developed as growth hub, and will have $1.5 trillion economy by 2047, aligning the
state as one of the front-runners in Viksit Bharat mission.
