Creating a

Persona
What is a Persona?
Personas are hypothetical users whose goals and characteristics represent the needs of a larger group of users or
target audience.

Value of Persona
Personas help designers think in terms of users by providing a concrete characterisation of them and how
they might use the site. It also helps team to manage large list of requirements and facilitates
communication within the teams.
What is a Persona Today?
It’s now over 30 years since Cooper’s explanation in personas. So how should we define user personas in today’s
world of Digital Interfaces, and wearable tech?

Current Definition
Cooper says: Personas are not real people, but they represent them throughout the design process. They
are hypothetical archetypes of actual users. Personas are defined by their goals.
Key to create a best persona
1. User Research

2. Understanding your data

3. Create some drafts

Empathy Map
What is an Empathy Map?
An empathy map is a tool that teams can use to gain a deeper insight into their customers. The empathy map was
originally created by Dave Gray and has been gaining popularity since then.

How does and Empathy Map help UX Design?

1. It reveals the underlying “why” behind user’s actions, choices and decisions so we can proactively design for their
real needs—those that are difficult for user’s to perceive and articulate.

2. It invites others to internalise parts of the user’s experience in ways that listening to or reading a report cannot.

3. It paves the way for innovative design concepts to be revealed. Now that the stakeholders understand the user’s
situations, they are able to quickly understand how slight design changes can make a big impact on users.
