A group of 4 friends have just made their booking for the Rugby World Cup 2023, to be
held in France (15°E), from 8 September to 28 October 2023. Although the friends are
all South African citizens, they are studying in Los Angeles (120°W) for the period 2022
to 2024. They have decided to travel for the last week of the World Cup as they cannot
get leave for the full duration of the event.

2.1.1 The group have booked a flight with United Airlines. Their flight will depart
at 06:00 on 23 October 2023 from Los Angeles International airport. The
flight which is 12 hours long will land at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. They
have to then take a 45 minute chartered flight to their accommodation in order
to be close to the venue for the quarter final.

a. Calculate their arrival time at their accommodation. France is


practicing Daylight Saving Time in October. Use the Time Zone
map provided to complete your calculations. (*DST officially
ends on 30 October in Europe). (8)

b. Determine TWO impacts on their travel plans that they may

ATHENS, May 21 (AP) —The Greek Government today barred


tourists from walking inside the Parthenon, to protect the ancient
temple from further damage. Only archaeologists with special
permits will be allowed inside.

A proposal to cover the marble floor of the shrine with plastic was
rejected for aesthetic reasons.

The Parthenon, built in the fifth century B.C., is Greece's most famous tourist attraction and
draws about a million and half visitors each year. It has suffered extensive damage from the
heels of visitors, as well as from air pollution and noise. Flights over the area are already
banned.
