A Drive Through The Country Analysis
In Graham Greene s collection Twenty One Stories the works vary greatly in topic, character, plot
and place. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the other, one element of craft and
its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the story A Drive Through the Country the
nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through
the country, Fred s impulsive behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The
Basement Room a young boyleft home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house
without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is obvious through
the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene s construction of dialoguewhere
the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that takes place before or in between the moments
of dialogue show us that the characters do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the
stories future goings on hold mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will they
ever get what they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers ponder
during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would lack mystery
and suspense. For it is through Greene s straightforward narration, coupled with dialogue, that bring
readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to care about the characters and the stories endings.
Major Component Of Sustainability And Its Effects On The...
Biodiversity is major component of sustainability, and it is defined as the variety of genes,
organisms, species, and ecosystems in a given area or on the planet as a whole (Miller and
Spoolman 2015, 5). Urban spaces typically lack biodiversity due to a variety of factors that cause the
destruction of ecosystems, such as replacing established ecosystems with large lawns, parking lots,
buildings, and highways. When these well established, high functioning ecosystems are disturbed,
we eliminate the variety of genes, organisms, and speciesthat lived in that ecosystem. In doing so, we
have caused stress for the organisms that live there. For example, if we fragment an ecosystem via
highway or road expansion, at a minimum we are permanently altering the breeding and feeding
relationships that existed in that ecosystem. In terms of breeding, highway construction separates
organisms of the same species and keeps them from mating. This results in fewer genes being
exchanged between organisms. Those genes could potentially be what saves a species from
extinction in the event of a disaster, such as a forest fire or flood. In addition, highways also
disrupt energy flow patterns which provide ecosystem services like a natural form of population
control. In accordance with that, the extinction of even a single species can cause a rapid decline in
a variety of organisms in that same ecosystem. This is due to the fact that many organisms within an
ecosystem have co evolved, meaning
Richard Rodriguez Real Work Essay Analysis

Kevin Knight
English 111
September 12th, 2012
Real Work by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self confidence. He seeks
to build his self esteem by participating in real manual labor over a summer job. When Rodriguez
is offered a job working on a construction site he doesn t hesitate to say yes. His father had always
told him he could never understand the hardships of Real work , and Rodriguez felt that
completing this summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him
to be a Real man . Richard Rodriguez was raised in America, unlike his family. He never really
knew anything different. This made it very easy for his father to tell him that he didn t really know ...

The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At first I thought
the authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour about the advantages of living
a normal life in American society. I felt that he had made his son feel like he could never do what
he had down. If a parental figure makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be
positive or negative. In Rodriguez s case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a
positive learning experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez s
father wasn t putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their
worlds where. He was stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with
much greater potential to be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough
than most people realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not
have many options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt
that his father had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. Rodriguez felt
like he needed to prove that he could perform the same task that his fathers use to do to provide for
their families. Working with you re your hands, completing messy, strenuous, sometimes painful jobs
was almost a part of Hispanic culture. A part of
The Dangers Of Gun Control
Gun Control is one of the major issues that not only does America have, but the whole world. Gun
Control is a set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession,
modification, or use of firearms by civilians. In 2007, it was estimated that there were globally
about 875 million small arms in the hands of civilians, law enforcement agencies, and armed
forces. Of these firearms, 650 million or 75%, were held by civilians and 270 million were U.S.
civilians. The U.S. should crackdown on guns by creating stricter gunlaws now or else what beholds
later generations to come with all the gun violence we have today.
One issue that America has with gun control are background checks. These massacres aren t
always involved with illegal guns, but with legally purchased and documented guns. Simply
enforcing mandatory and stricter background checks can help with reducing these catastrophes.
According to the NY Times article America Used to Be Good at Gun Control. What Happened?
by Robert Spitzer, he mentions that many mass shooters do give indications of impending
violence to those around them, and only a few states have any measures in place to pick up on
that. He claims that background checks won t always tell you what you need to be aware of, but a
lot of other hints such as relationships and behavior can aid in identifying someone who s not
capable of handling a firearm. Federal law mandates that only retail gun stores have to conduct
criminal
Zong History
that she did, but these gaps seem to represent the gap in the history of Zong and its slave cargo.
There are many unknown factors which cannot be found within the pages of the Gregson vs
Gilbert documents, or found through archaic evidence. It is uncertain, for instance, where exactly
the ship was located when the slaves were thrown overboard, and the names of the slaves whose
lives were lost during the incident. Philip clarifies this in her interview with Patricia Saunders
when she states, There is no marker. We don t have the bones. We don t have the Tombstones
(Saunders). The cargo ships were required to keep a log with names of the slaves onboard, as well
as a detailed chart of the locations throughout the journey, but this log was never... Show more

And then you have, I suppose, this wonderful thing, the law, that is supposedly so constant and so
unchanging and that at times is modulated by the principles of equity. Equity s purpose was
supposed to soften the hard, unyielding law. And so, as I am talking to you, what I m
understanding now is that my process reversed that you take these hard facts, this desiccated fact
situation of Gregson v. Gilbert and you reintroduce those emotions and feelings that were removed.
If you have something that is dried, when you put it in water, the water restores the dried fibers and
if you think about this, this two page account of Gregson v. Gilbert that I found, squeezed out the

Obstacles For Homosexuals
From a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have
created gay people by Howard Dean. Homosexuals have had a hard time coming out and making
that first step to accepting themselves in society or religious community. The other steps to actually
come out is for their peers, family, and friends to accept them as well into their lives. There are
many obstacles for homosexuals as they reach the point to coming out and as it relates to Judaism.
According to information published by The Jewish People Policy Planning Institute, there were
around 13.1 million Jewish people in the world in 2007, most residing in the USA and Israel. Also,
according to the 2001 census, 267,000 people in the UK said that their religious... Show more content

Levin personal story of his struggles with his sexuality and his religion, there are many health
concerns and other harms that homosexuals have to face. As it is natural for people to have
sexual desires, however, the Centers for Disease Control, CDC, recently reported alarming rates
of STDs among homosexuals that syphilis infections among homosexual men have seen such a
massive increase that the government report calls the gay syphilis statistics troubling. Also, the
government report admits that anyone can become infected with an STD, young people and gay
and bisexual men are at greatest risk. As the government states that gay men are more likely to
get STDs then could we also that they are more likely to get HIV or AIDs. The CDC says that If
they are not treated, syphilis causes visual impairment and stroke and increases the chance of
catching or transmitting HIV. If homosexuals choose to be sexually active, then it makes sense why
their Jewish community would reject them, but not all homosexuals have STDs. Also, as
homosexuals are sexually active then their choices will lead them into harm s way. The report
states, men account for more than 90 percent of all primary and secondary syphilis cases and men
who have sex with men, MSM, account for 83 percent of male cases where the sex of the sex
partner is known. With the percentage of homosexuals with syphilis, the report explains that it uses
the acronym MSM, men who have sex with men, because that
Why Did Mary Lose Her Popularity
Mary lost her popularity because of her policies. And for that her choices made her people hate her.
Mary had made her biggest mistake, other than burning three hundred plus more Protestants, but she
agreed in marrying King Phillip of Spain. According to a Tudor
Website The majority of her council (and of England, for that matter) opposed the match with
Philip (Stephanie, the Tudor Enthusiast). The reason they did not agree with this marriage was
because Phillip was a strong Catholic and they realized it would be a big threat to the Protestants
people of England s population. As Stephanie said naturally there was fear and rebellion against the
marriage (The Tudor Enthusiast). The parliament sent a message to the queen
expressing
Essay on truama c-spine
Trauma C Spine

This essay is not intended to criticize any emergency medical or hospital staff. I am writing this
essay out of concern for patients who come into the emergency room that may have a jeopardized
spinal cord resulting from an injury or suspected injury to their cervical spine. I am a certified
emergency medical technician, farm medic instructor and currently a medical diagnostic student
doing clinicial s. In the United States each year there are approximately 10,000 reported cervical
spine injuries that come into emergency rooms. Motor vehicle accidents account for approximately
45%, falls approximately 30%, the remaining 25% from sports and miscellaneous. Although only a

The radiographer s job is to deliverer quality X rays that have been ordered by the medical staff.
Basic radiographs required to exclude a cervical spine fracture include lateral view, anterioposterior
view, and an open mouth odontoid view. The lateral view must include all seven cervical vertebrae as
well as the joint space between C7 T1. If this is not possible because of patient size or condition
then a swimmers view will be needed. The anterioposterior view should show all cervical vertebrae,
while the dens and joint space should be visible on the odontoid view. These exams need to be
completed in a timely matter while continuing to maintain cervical immobilization. The importance
of obtaining quality X rays cannot be overemphasized as the most frequent cause of missed cervical
fractures is the result of inadequate films.
The medical staff role in the care of trauma c spine injuries is to make sure that proper exams are
done so that a proper diagnosis can be made. This is achieved by a good physical assessment as
well as proper communication with the EMT s about mode of injury, and evaluation of
radiographs that have been ordered. If the radiographs are inadequate to rule out a fracture, then
the need for repeated or additional X rays or a CT scan should be obtained, until all vertebrae are
visible and the possibility of fracture can be ruled out. This is how it is supposed to work.
