Electrical Safety Test 7

The document outlines a procedure for testing ground fault current interrupters (GFCI) to ensure their functionality using a simulated fault. It specifies the equipment needed, the steps to perform the test, and the actions to take if defects are found. Engineering staff are responsible for conducting the test and reporting any issues promptly.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY TEST #7

TEST OF GROUND FAULT CURRENT INTERRUPTER USING SIMULATED FAULT

PURPOSE: To confirm that ground fault current interrupters (GFCI) are functional.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Test instrument or device that simulates line-to-ground fault (5

microamps resistive test load.)

PERFORMED BY: Engineering staff

PROCEDURE: Plug test instrument or resistive test load into each GFCI receptacle or one
receptacle of a GFCI-monitored circuit
and verify that the device trips when the switch on the test instrument or test device is
activated.

Reset breaker after test.

ACTION: Report all defects to the engineering department as soon as possible using the
appropriate work order form. Caution
should be used in the area until the defect has been repaired.
