My Grandparent s House Is Not A Safe Haven
Every person is in need of a home. It is a place that feels natural and welcoming. It instills a sense
of belonging. A home doesn t have to be a specific dwelling, for it has many different definitions
and meanings for each individual. What is universal is the feelings one receives when they are in
their home. It is a place that protects them from the struggles and obstacles that life inevitably
thrusts onto people. It is a safe haven. For me this particular feeling is bestowed upon me every time
I step foot into my grandparents house. My grandparent s house is my home and it will forever fill
me with the unconditional love, happiness and security that my familyhas given my entire life. My
heart is there.

We both drown our fish with Texas Pete every time we eat this flavorful meal. Scientists say smell
is the sense that is most associated sense with memory. Every time I smell fried catfish, I know it
will take me home.

Although food isn t the only treasure my home provides me. Home is bathing in the elegant marble
bathtub with its endless overflowing bubbles. This exquisite tub I named Ol Reliable. Ol
Reliable is an XL power jet tub, equipped with gold colored faucet and golden feet. It is made out
of a silky marble finish that was fit for royalty. Naturally I thought it was the types of bathtubs in
Buckingham Palace and so I felt like the queen herself when I used it. It even had a tempur pedic
pillow for your head, which in the eyes of an eight year old is the most innovative invention ever
seen. Along the edges of the bathtub is shelving for the soaps and other bathing needs. Bomba
has an infinite amount of bath beads, shampoos, loofahs and even exotic tools such as foot
scrubbers with matching foot soap. Of course as a child I d apply basically everything on my
head and throw it into the bathtub. Once I had every bath accessory at my disposal and a silky
pair of my grandmother s pajamas to put on after, I would be finally ready to add the bubbles. I
remember every time when my grandmother was filling up Ol Reliable, she d say, Only put in two
squirts of bubble bath, remember what happened last time... Well every time I
The Social Causes Of Social Solutions To Climate Change
Climate change is one of the most harmful things to humanity because it affects everyone who lives
on Earth. Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups of
people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way.
Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute
to the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot be
blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by climate
change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to climate
change. It wasn t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty and people
don t contribute because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all of our
combined actions that add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today.
In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for
us to come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and
start acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and
more efficiently. Though we have been dealing with the human influence on climate change for
centuries, especially since the Industrial Revolution, we can still lessen the effects. We can t expect
the problem to go away if only a few people decide to
Power Imbalance In The Harness
Power imbalance is faced in every relationship because power is never shared equally. Many
devices can be created when a person is able to control another. In Of Mice and Men, the battle for
authority is a never ending war. While in The Harness, influence is mainly carried by one
character, but for the greater good of the other. Steinbeck elicits a similar theme of power
imbalance to both The Harness and Of Mice and Men. For instance, in The Harness Emma controls
how her husband Peter acts. Emma forces Peter to wear a harness, leaving him unable to show his
true self and restraining his real feelings. Peter restrains his stomach with a harness, his shoulders
being held back as though they were braced ( The Harness 77). The harness... Show more content on

When Emma dies he loses control and bec[omes] hysterical immediately ( The Harness 80). The
shock of losing his wife and the loss of power imbalance takes him over instantly. Peter was so out
of control, so stunned, that the morphine was ineffective and didn t put [him] to sleep ( The
Harness 80). He no longer knows how to act after his wife is gone because there is no one to
direct him and he is lost wailing like a crazy man ( The Harness 80). There is nothing to hold him
back now. After Emma s death, Peter feels like something had snapped inside ( The Harness 82)
making him broken and vulnerable. He thinks of the break he experiences as a suspender strap (
The Harness 82) that came apart which, like the harness, holds him back, but is now destroyed.
Peter unhook[s] the harness ( The Harness 82) with an unrestrained glee at his newfound
freedom. When he removes the harness after her death, he does so both physically and
emotionally. Glad to be rid of this burden he carries, his eyes shine ( The Harness 84) with
anticipation. Impatient for the future and to have power over his own life again. Peter want[s]
everything ( The Harness 85) after his wife is dead. He finally sees a hopeful future ahead of him.
He will be able to plant peas and not wear a harness. Peter experiences a change ( The Harness 86)
and quickly gets to planting sweet peas in his fields. While Peter is happy at his freedom, he can
still feel the weight of responsibility crushing on him. There was no dirt on the floor ( The
Harness 87) like he told Ed there would be because he still cares. While she might not be there
physically watching over him, Peter can still feel the weight of her presence judging and trapping
him. The sweet peas make worry lines about his eyes ( The Harness 89), she never approved of him
growing sweet peas, and he feels stressed out
What Is The Theme Of Rebellion In Leslie Bell s Sexualiy...
One of the first things that pops into the average person s mind when they hear the term rebellion is
a revolt against the tyrannical overlord. However, rebellion can also occur in the individual level.
For many people, they rebel against stereotypes and their environment, not totalitarian governments.
But in some ways, a tyrannical government and stereotypes can be very similar to each other as
both are something that people rise up against. In Leslie Bell s Hard to Get: Twenty Something
Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom, she drives home the idea that sexualiy for women is
especially complicated because of the numerous stereotypes and confusion that surrounds it. Often,
young women rebel against cultural norms to create their identity and do so by either... Show more

Sexuality is a particularly perplexing topic for young women. Bell notes that Their (women s)
twenties ought to be a decade of freedom and exploration. But... I have found them to be more
confused than ever about not only how to get what they want, but what they want. (Bell 26) Yes,
they are young and has so many opportunities in front of them. Yes, most of them have a college
degree and are highly educated. Yes, there are too many choices and they are condemned whichever
way they choose. Going back to education, there are more successful women than ever before. In
fact, they are the majority and the men, the minority. More women attend college, in aggregate have
a high income, and in fact, are beginning to be pioneers in previously male dominated fields. Parents,
educational institutions, workplaces, companies, and countless nonprofit organization have focused
on empowering girls and women to get ahead in fields and endeavors where they had lagged behind
for generations. (Bell 27) So, it s no surprise that many women push back intimate relationships in
order to further pursue their
The Importance of the Zollverein in the Movement for...
Formation the German Confederation created by the Congress of Vienna had 39 states, each having
its dues and tolls on goods passim through its territory. This made goods expensive and hindered
trade. For instance, Prussia had 67 different tariff areas within its border after 1815. As such,
Germany was economically and commercially the most backward country in western Europe in the
early years of the 19th century.

Purssia took the lead to promote free trade movement in the German Confederation. By the 1818
Tariff Reform Act, Prussia removed all customs barriers on trade within her boundaries, making the
country for the first time an economic and commercial unit. At the same time, she imposed a
uniform tariff on goods from other states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the clash of interests was to be forgotten in the face of the considerable advantages
offered by the formation of the Zollverein. A feeling of solidarity and the idea of a single fatherland
assumed a concrete form for the Germans. In this way, the quiet, but incessant, pressure of economic
forces broke down the political barriers which divided Germany.

In the words of a contemporary, Dr. Bowring who commented in 1840 as follows: The Zollverein
had brought the sentiment of German nationality out of the regions of hope and fancy into those of
positive and material interests. The general feeling is that it is the first step towards what is called
the Germanization of the people. It has broken down some of the strongest holds of alienation and
hostility. By a community of interests on commercial and trading questions it has prepared the way
for a political nationality.

Strengthened Prussian leadership with the help of the Zollverein, Prussia became economically
supreme in the German Confederation.

The 1818 Tariff Act and subsequent trade agreements stimulated Prussian trade and economic
development. As the Zollverein gradually extended the area of free trade within its boundaries,
Prussian economy prospered. In 1848 the Bank of Prussia was founded to assist economic growth.
It was managed by government officials, the shareholders in the Bank were allowed no say in its
control.
German industrialization made its fastest progress in the
Cyrus W. Field Research Paper
Cyrus W. Field was a wealthy American merchant whose dream it was to lay the first transatlantic
cable. He had several problems and situations. He had to raise $.75 million for the project. He
went to England and organized the Atlantic Telegraph Company in 1856. Another problem was
that he had to design a cable, which was a four inch, brass bound, insulated copper cable
approximately 340,000 miles long. The project was launched in 1857 (the same year a cable was
stretched across America), and in August. The Miagara and the Agamemnon left Valentia, just off
the coast of Ireland. The cable snapped after about 300 miles. In June 1858, the two ships met mid
Atlantic, each carrying half a cable. They spliced the two halves together and separated,

It gives people another way to communicate with others interested in a particular type of book they
like. Plan layout I have devised a plan on how I will achieve my goal throughout the next couple of
months with the final outcome of my Blog is due for submission. These have been outlined by
weeks, which will be shown below:

Week 3 Term 2 (8/5/12) I have finalised what I want to do as my personal project. I have also
finalised what specific Area Of Interaction will be based on my project and have already started to
compare and contrast between blogs in order to wrap my mind around a concept. I have also seen
my supervisor at least once by that current date.

Week 5 Term 2 (22/5/12) I have finished phase one of my personal project report and have submitted
it to my supervisor for marking. I also create a goal in my head of what I want to achieve and how
my product will turn out to be. I record all of what is relevant into my journal in order to not forget.

Digital Zombies
Is technology turning people into digital zombies? Some people believe electronics benefit us, while
others strongly disagree. There are some advantages to technology, but there are many more
disadvantages. With technology we seem to have greater visual acuity...but what we loose in
optimizing our brain...is mindful knowledge acquisition, creative thinking, reflective thinking, and
critical thinking (Carr video.) Technologyis causing people to become lazy because it is a
distraction, and there is no need for problem solving and social interactions.

Technology is the leading distraction in the United States. The average teenager sends or receives
about three thousand three hundred texts a month...that breaks down to one text about every six
minutes throughout your entire waking life (Carr video.) When people have computers in front of
them at work, they glance at their email INBOX about twenty to thirty times an hour (Carr video.)
An adult will pull out or look at his/her smart phone about one hundred and sixty times throughout
the course of the day. This simplifies to about once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people assume with unlimited options to communicate, the more frequent we would do it, but
experiments have proven this incorrect. The more choices we get and the simpler it is to
communicate, the lazier we get (...web.) According to this article, the more advancements we have
in communication, the less social interaction. Teenage girls send and receive about four thousand
texts per month (Carr video.) Instead of talking to someone in person, one would much rather
slightly move his/her fingers across a keyboard to socialize. People are too lazy to have a simple
conversation with one another. Text messaging has thoroughly replaced physical communication and
has even replaced phone calls. What s next? Will there be any physical interaction at
Sociological Perspectives On Family Sociology
Family is a significant concept within the society and based on its significance various
sociological perspectives have devoted their studies in order to examine family. Each of these
perspectives has differing view of the nature and role of the family in society. Therefore, in this
essay, it is my intention to compare the range of sociological perspectives of the familyincluding
functionalism, Marxist and feminist. I will also evaluate the conjugal relationships and its
development by considering the factors that have caused these developments.

According to functionalism, each aspect of the society education system, economy and family is
inter related and works together in order to the maintenance of stability of society as a whole.
(Webb et al, 2008). This has been more clarified by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the family, functionalists see the family as a vital organ in maintaining the body of
society, just as the heart is an important organ in maintaining human body. (Browne, 2013, p.121).
The Functionalists suggest that family performs many functions for the society. The functionalist
theorist George Murdock (1949) found from his study, the nuclear family was a universal social
institution and it existed universally as it fulfils four basic functions for society. These functions are
identified as the sexual, reproductive, economic and educational. (Earlhamsociologypages). The first
function is known as sexual refers that within the family there is a stable satisfaction of the sex drive
with the same partner. This means that the regulation of sexual activity prevent the society from
social disruptions and provide stability. The reproductive is the second function of family is related
to producing next generation for society, it is apparent that society without children cannot survive.
Next, functionalists see family as an economic unit as it provides its members the economic needs
such as food and
Utility Or The Greatest Happiness Principle, By John...
When defining Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle first explained by John Stuart Mill
(1806 1873), one must first understand that Mill defends Utilitarianism, focusing mainly on the
concept of consequences. Stating that the point behind Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle
is that a person s decisions and actions are decided as right or wrong based on their effect of being
able to make someone or ones self happy or unhappy. To have an understanding for the word
happiness, as defined in the Greatest Happiness Principle , a person must accept that happiness is
the goal of perceived pleasurewith the absence of any pain, whether it be emotional or physical. At
what point does a person considerer someone else s happiness when acting in their own interest of
utility. If you were to make arrangements to go to the movies with a group of friends, but shortly
before decide to help a fellow scholar with an engineering project which should you choose? Based
on the subject of utilitarianism, you should act in whatever way will give you the most happiness
and satisfaction, and that the happiness that forms the utilitarian standard is not set by ones
individual happiness, but also by the effect of others as well. There will be endless situations that
one will find themselves in to where they will make a choice that will give them the most pleasure,
or lead them to the possibility of attaining such pleasure without the presence of pain, providing them
with the
