VII. HOTS
Riya went to her village during vacations. There, she saw that her grandfather, after harvesting
the crop of wheat, prepared the field to grow grams and peas in it. Riya is curious to know the
reason behind this. Help her to know the answer.

2. two
3. consumers
4. nitrogen
5. Total
IV. State True or False.
1. False
2. True
3. True
4. False
5. True
V. Answer the following.
1. The process by which living organisms take in food and use it to obtain nutrients for energy,
growth and development is called nutrition. There are mainly two types of nutrition seen
among the living organisms: autotrophic and heterotrophic nutrition.
2. Xylem is a continuous network of pipe-like tubes that take water and minerals from the roots
upwards to the stem, branches and leaves.
3. The process by which nitrogen from the air is converted by certain bacteria into water-soluble
nitrogenous substances in the soil is called nitrogen fixation.
4. Mistletoe is also a parasitic plant like Cuscuta, but it is not a total parasite. It grows on trees,
such as mango and teak. It has chlorophyll and can make some of its food. However, it depends
on the host plant for water and certain nutrients. Parasitic plants such as mistletoe are thus
called partial parasites.
5. It is observed that on putting a few drops of iodine solution on an alcohol-boiled variegated
leaf, only the green parts of the leaf that have chlorophyll turn blue-black, while the non-green
parts remain unchanged.
VI. Picture-based Question
a) The given equation represents the process of photosynthesis.
b) A: Water, B: Sunlight, C: Glucose.
c) Sunlight gets converted to chemical energy and results in the formation of glucose.
VII. HOTS:
Besides carbohydrates, plants also need proteins. They make proteins from nitrogenous
substances present in the soil. Grams and peas are leguminous plants, which help in fixing
nitrogen gas in the form of nitrogenous substances in the soil with the help of bacteria called
Rhizobium. Thus, after growing crops, such as wheat or rice, farmer
