Meaning Of Proverbs
Each and every proverb has its own meaning and can only be used in particular situations, many
times, the meaning of a proverb is not obvious and this is why knowing all necessary information
about isabout is of the utmost importance. Using proverbs in text or in speech incorrectly may cause
misunderstandings and confusion.
Norick (1985) marks two levels of comprehension: literal and figurative (implied). The former
relates more to proverbs that can be understood on literal level, e.g. Like mother, like daughter
(Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs 2004), the literal meaning of this proverb is mother and daughter are
alike , there is nothing metaphorical in it and it is understood literally, the letter, however, is more

Mieder (2014) claims that proverbs are irreplaceable tools in teaching children moral behaviours,
experience and general wisdom. However, not every proverb has its didactic function, and one
should be careful while selecting them in order to teach others (Norrick 1985). Proverbs can be
also used to teach foreign languages by translating exercises and at the same time pupils can learn
about specific culture, heritage and moral precepts (Mieder op. cit.). Worth mentioning is the fact
that proverb can have direct and indirect didactic tendency. Nevertheless, all proverbs can be
considered as a didactic tool in particular context (Norrick op. cit.). In conclusion, it is commonly
known that proverbs are good sources of wisdom and experience that can be also transmitted into
other purposes, for example learning foreign languages or teaching about human nature (Mieder op.
Importance In The English Church In Twelfth Night By...
At the end of the sixteenth century through the beginning of the seventeenth century, a political and
religious movement threatened to attack the soul of England. The English Puritans started this
movement because they wanted to purify England of Catholic ceremonies. Twelfth Night is a
reference to January sixth the final day in a twelve day Christmas celebration. English Puritans didn t
like the Catholic tradition of everything being turned upside down. Hunt states:
In the other case, closely associated with Elizabethan puritanism, Providence works more
immediately upon mortals, with a de emphasis upon the importance of those persons or natural
forces helping to create the design of God. Shakespeare in Twelfth Night reprises this controversy
within the English Church, contrasting, in the dramatic portraits of Malvolio and Viola, a
caricature of a viewpoint represented by puritans ......Portraying puritanical Malvolio s notion of
Providence as self serving, Shakespeare satirizes his character s belief in the unmediated, unearned,
material blessing of the elect. In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare endorses a more removed, less easily
knowable deity who works through secondary agents such as the sea to reward individuals who
have had to earn their blessing by selflessly serving others. (278)
Throughout Twelfth Night, Shakespeare alludes to the conflict going on in England between the
Puritans and the Catholics. Even the title Twelfth Night is in conflict since Shakespeare also named
The Deterioration Of The Aristotelian Worldview
The deterioration of the Aristotelian worldview began around the time of the Reformation of the
Catholic Church. The reformation of the Catholic Church up until this time had been in control of
the teachings and discoveries at that time until Martin Luther questioned the Church and its
teachings. Luther had brought to people s attention how controlling the Church was over what was
being taught and the people began to realize that there could be more out in the world to discover.
People began to become curious and wanted to read the Bible and think for themselves. Along with
the Reformation, the pushing of the Muslims from the East created an opportunity of scientific
discoveries to occur. The Muslims had caused the people to move and take ancient books with them
that contained different philosophical discoveries from scientist such as Hippocrates, Galen, Euclid,
etc. Scientist were amazed at the discoveries and beliefs that were founded and could not believe that
they had not known about them. Reading about their discoveries and beliefs caused scientist to build
off of what the early philosophers had founded. Scientists that played important roles in the
deterioration of the Aristotelian worldview was Nicolas Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, and Galileo.
These men put forth information that early men of astronomyand philosophy could not imagine and
the advancement in technology was to thank for that.
Nicolas Copernicus realized that the Ptolemaic system did an awful job of
Salvador Allende Research Paper
The investigation assesses the significant contribution of the United States, with a general focus on
the CIA, to Salvador Allende s political downfall. To adequately evaluate the involvement of the
United States and the CIA, this investigation emphasizes the multiple measures and operations taken
through distinctive cases of economic plots, operations track 1 and 2, as well as the infiltration into
Chilean political and military factions. This investigation strives to answer the question: How did
the United Statesand the CIA significantly contribute to the political downfall of Salvador Allende?

While I wished to provide an accurate testimony through media search, publications, and memoirs, I
realized this method would not be time efficient and would restrict my view to a traditionalist
interpretation since the events were seen firsthand. Utilizing solely primary sources would not
have been beneficial to my investigation as a whole. In order to include more revisionist
perspectives, which better portray my own, I used research collected by other historians to discover
the different aspects of United States involvement. The most difficult aspect of history is that there
is no correct or straightforward answer. All history is interpreted differently by the different people
involved which leads to biases. For this reason, there is no guarantee that the information will ever
be entirely objective. By looking at multiple sources, I was able to form an idea of the events that
occurred while viewing different interpretations with similar themes. One of the most important
aspects of my research was finding multiple sources that included similar information in order to
verify the accuracy of these
Donne, And Randall Jarrell s Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
How do you view death in the 21st century? Throughout history, the concept of death has taken many
forms. Many people consider death as something that is terrifying and horrific, but there are some
who view death as a peaceful stepping off point into a blissful eternity. Some prominent poets that
have shared their different perspectives regarding deathinclude John Donne, Emily Dickinson, and
Randall Jarrell. John Donne was an influential English poet of the 17th century, Emily Dickinson
was a distinguished American poet in the 19th century, and Randall Jarrell was a well known
American poet of the 20th century. Although John Donne s Death be not Proud, Emily Dickinson s

But, in contrast, the speaker is a dead WW2 soldier who describes how the job of a ball turret
gunner is a death sentence. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell begins the poem with,
From my mother s sleep I fell into the State, / And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze (1
2). Jarrell opens the poem by comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to that of his
mother s womb. The fact that Jarrell is comparing the belly of an American bomber aircraft to his
mother s womb is quite ironic because he juxtaposes two things where one symbolizes life, and
the other symbolizes death. Jarrell continues to convey his theme of death when he describes
how the speaker is off the ground and flying. In Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell writes,
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life (3). Jarrell is foreshadowing the death of the
speaker in this line. Jarrell knew that once the speaker was off the ground and in the air, the
speaker was on a suicide mission. Most ball turret gunners lives in WW2 were short lived. Since
they were placed under the belly of the bomber aircraft, if the aircraft was shot down, most planes
landed on their bellies, and as a result, the ball turret gunners were killed. In the last lines of Jarrell
s poem, Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, he states, I woke to black flak and the nightmare
fighters. / When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose (4 5). Jarrell s views on death
highlight that he is against the unnecessary loss of life. Jarrell is protesting that the job of the ball
turret gunner should not have been a job because it was almost guaranteed to be a suicide mission.
Jarrell emphasizes his philosophy by including the gruesome visual of people washing out the body
of the ball turret gunner with a
Color In Dorothy s The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
With the creation of color technology in the late 1800 s, it is starting to become apart of the
filming world. Technicolor helps to liven up the image and during The Wonderful Wizard of Oz ,
color does just that. Color brings beauty to the world of Oz, whereas in Kansas it is gray and lacks
excitement. Colorrepresents Dorothy s personality at home in Kansas.
When Dorothy is in Kansas at the beginning of the book, it is described as very dull and the sun is
so bright it seems to drain the beauty from the people who live there. When she arrives in Oz,
Dorothy is surrounded by bright colors. Bright colored fruits and colorful roads. Dorothy has never
seen so much color. It is a complete change of scenery for Dorothy that amazes her. As she travels,

activities to accomplish organizational goals. The manager should work effectively and efficiently,
getting out the highest output with minimal input. Whereas in case of Maddison, Inc. the staff
working under Sara complained of shortage of basic stuff like pen, laptops and blackberries.
