Frederick Jackson Turner Frontier Thesis Summary
The American Frontier consisted of a vibrant and expansive land made for the opportunity
ofAmerican settlement until the late 19th century. Unfortunately, the age of exploration of the
Frontier officially ended in 1890 with the U.S Census Bureau declaring that here can hardly be said
to be a frontier line. A historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, claimed that the Frontier shaped
American culture and the attitude of Americans. By evaluating U.S Census Bureau statistics, he
famously wrote the Frontier Thesis. Along with the Frontier Thesis, Turner contributed to the field
of New History, primarily analyzing the West and Sectionalism of the United States. Today,
historians acknowledge the tremendous impact Turner s role in American Exceptionalism... Show

He followed in his father s footsteps by enrolling as an undergraduate at the University of
Wisconsin. He eventually graduated and completed his Ph.D. at John Hopkins University in 1889.
His dissertation, The Character and Influence of the Indian Trade in Wisconsin. , focused more on
his native frontier than the national spectrum of american history. The returned to the University of
Wisconsin to begin historical research and teaching. During the midst of his historical popularity,
Turner spent a brief period of time as president of the American Historical Association in 1910 and
served on the board the American Historical Review from 1910 to 1915. After teaching at
Wisconsin, he decided to join the faculty at Harvard University until 1924. After serving as the chair
for Harvard s Department of History he retired from teaching but continued his research at the
Huntington Library in California. The remained at the Huntington Library until his death in San
Marino, California in 1932. Some of Turner s achievements included being awarded posthumously
the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1933 and the historical significance of expanding America s
fascination with the West. Through his literature, Turner showed that history was not necessary
defined by period, otherwise, it was always
Pros And Cons Of The Volunteer Army
Markets are not the best way to achieve a just society. They often allow the wealthy to have more
freedoms and greater opportunities.
This leads to the poor being disproportionately represented in the military, and the very rich are
severely underrepresented in the military. The volunteer army may not be as voluntary as you would
think, if taken into consideration the circumstances of the men and women filling the vast majority
of the military positions. The men and women filling these positions often come from low to
middle income neighborhoods, and join out of economic necessity. While young men and women
from upper class backgrounds have opted out of military service. Only 9 students out of Princeton
s 2006 class, which had 1,108 students in it, enlisted in the military. There are similar trends to be
seen all across America in elite universities and in our capital. Only 2% of Congress have a son or
daughter enlisted in the military. Congressman Charles Rangel, a democrat who opposed the Iraq war
, believes that the war never would have happened if the children of policymakers had to bear the
burden of fighting it. The volunteer army is unfair, because of class discrimination that entices
young people to risk their lives for college educations and other benefits.
Conscription is the solution to inequalities such as these. Conscription would make it fair among the
economic classes, so that everyone would be fairly represented throughout our military. Serving our
Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled
comprehending towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named
Pi Patel that ends up stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key
thematic statement that Yann Martelmakes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem
unrealistic, it doesn t mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s
setting, Pi s religious development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message.
First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in
general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a
tiger, but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island
made of no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard
time believing Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding
food from being so traumatized. He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. There right
underneath his bed sheet. The men seeing these actions done by Pi, confuses them and that even
leads to them not thinking that the story he is telling is true. As they continue to listen to Pi he adds
things like how he wasn t the first human on this carnivorous island. Pi continues on by explaining

The Song Of Our Country Analysis
Alexys Meier Mrs. Gile Comp I 10 November 2016 The Song of Our Country Francis Scott Key
wrote the National Anthem 202 years ago and it is still honored and respected by many
Americans today. The Star Spangled Banner is a symbol of why our country is where we are, it
symbolizes freedom, love, honor, bravery. It is amazing that one song can represent so many
things and still have as much meaning today as it did 202 years ago. Politics and people s views
and opinions vary in so many different ways these days, but it is good to have a song that can be
honored by most Americans. The National Anthem was written on September 14, 1814 by a lawyer
named Francis Scott Key, Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships
in Baltimore... Show more content on [Link] ...
It was written about real things and those things are still going on today. War is a scary thing and
it s incredible that there are so many men and women that volunteer to put their own life on the
line to make sure that both you and I can continue to live in this great country. Mac Engel wrote,
In looking at the giant flag that represents so much to the history of what is a flawed but
wonderful country it is this: America is a house, and Americans are family. Like most homes and
most families, there is a high degree of dysfunction and it s often a giant mess of noise, drama,
action, love and stupidity. It s also ours, and you don t leave it. We must honor and respect our
country and what our ancestors have gone through to give us all of the rights we have today. The
Star Spangled Banner isn t just a song that s played before a sporting event. It s a song that is
played to honor those men and women that have risked their lives so we can be free. It s those
people that risk their lives so people have the choice to stand or kneel during the playing of the
National Anthem. Whether you stand with pride or kneel during the playing of the Star Spangled
Banner it is important to respect and honor those who gave that right to
The Vase Told The Story Of Herakles And The Boar
For this writing assignment, I was given the Attic Black figure Lekythos. The vase told the story
of Herakles and the boar. The Lekythos is a cylindrical vase. The base color of the vase is orange.
The ink used turned black from when it was heated. The vase still contains most of the story;
however, a lot of the vase is faded. At the base of the vase, it gradually curves in. There is a solid
line going horizontally across the bottom of the vase. This line takes up half of the base. It is a
more tan colorbecause clay is pale and faded. At the top part of the base, it is hard to tell what was
originally there. It looks like it was just a solid blackcolor, but a lot of the ink has faded off. On the
right, the ink is completely gone. The rest of the base has spots where the ink is fade. Above the
base is the face of the vase. This is where the story is shown. From the base, it curves out. Here it
seems like it was supposed to be completely black, but it has the same problem the base has. The
right side is faded out, and the left side has multiple spots were the ink has faded off. Once it
reaches an inch below the story, it stops curving out. There is a thin orange horizontal line going
across. It looks to accurate to be from the ink fading. The artist must have come back in and made
the line. Then there is a black horizontal line bigger than the orange line. The ink here has faded,
though, leaving orange spots scattered throughout. On top of the
Music Impact On Music
Music is inevitable in our lives. It is an extremely common and accessible form of entertainment
that is used in various circumstances such as in a musical band, karaoke, as well as during
physical exercise (). Music today is also used as a therapy, which can effectively improve our social
and psychological outcomes, such as anxiety and depression that may cause from a tragic event. The
different styles of music elements applied to a song, such as the rhythm, tempoand melody, have a
role in impacting our emotional perception (). Music also has shown to be effective in affecting
one s behavior. Our choice of music can be a reflection of our personal attitudes (). Moreover,
dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that plays a major role in our reward motivated behavior,
can be enhanced or attenuated through music listening in our brain, and hence, has an impact to our
sensations (VNS). Other than that, the stress related hormones that are produced in our body can
also be altered in response to music (). Music not only includes rhythm and melody, the lyrics of a
song could also be important to express the story of one s past experience and emotion(). The
purpose of the playlist created below is to motivate and encourage myself to become stronger, and
also to bring myself back to the past with the memories I left behind, as well as relieving my mind
and stress. All the songs chosen to be included in the playlist are from the music playlist in my
phone. Each of them has its own
Boiler Room
The Boiler Room

The movie The Boiler room is about a young man who has dropped out of Queens College and
wants to please his father, who is a federal judge who is extremely harsh. At his father s
persistence, Seth Davis closes down a casino he operated in his house for college students and
seeks a new job. Thinking he would be pleasing his father he takes a job at a small brokerage firm
called JT Marlin. At JT Marlin trainees make cold calls to lists of well paid men, and then apply
high pressure tactic to sell initial public offerings exclusive to the firm. Seth is terrific at sales and
once his training is over, the pay is phenomenal, and Seth is very curious to why. Curiosity leads him
to many ethical dilemmas and encounters with ... Show more content on [Link] ...
These decisions were crucial in their business because it is what keeps any business going. JT
Marlin s firm demonstrated many kinds of management skills. Conceptual is what the organization
is about and how it functions as a whole. The Boiler Room consists of stockbrokers, the stocks
itself, and the people that buy and sell the stocks. All of these components are what makes the
organization conceptual. Human Relations is working together in groups together. This is
shown throughout the whole movie. The company is broken down into specific groups to get
things done. The company also had friendships, which were in groups. Groups of friends/co
workers went out at night to hang out and grow a closer bond since they worked together every
day. Technical is each specific job or area. For example, each person in J.T Marlin had certain
tasks to fulfill and information that only they knew. They each had specialized fields that they
knew. J.T Marlin had managers, secretaries, brokers, and people that just did handy work. This
was very technical because everything was broken down and was very specific. In every
company there are manger roles that are taken on to insure the success of their company. In the
Boiler room there were all types of managers, top, middle, and operational. Top Managers are the
owners, president, or CEOS of a company. In the JT Marlins firm the head manager made all major
decisions. They establish objectives, policies,

Chapter Eleven and Twelve The term Renaissance comes from the Renaissance. Several Italian
intellectuals of the late fourteenth and the early fifteenth centuries used the term rinascità ( rebirth )
to describe their own age as one in which learning, literature, and the arts were reborn after a long,
dark Middle Ages. The approach here is that the Renaissance began in Italy about 1350 and in the
rest of Europe after 1450 and that it lasted until about 1620. It was a historical era with distinctive
themes in learning, politics, literature, art, religion, social life, and music. In the view of the
humanists, the painter Giotto (d. 1337) ... Show more content on [Link] ...

Imaginative Writing- My Friend from Neptune Essays
I remember everything like if it was yesterday. It was a feeling I could never explain. It was the
weirdest thing that had ever happened to me, or to anyone. That day was also the best, exciting,
fun but also sad. I ve never experience anything like it. I woke up because of the loud, creepy,
scratchy noise I heard. A noise you only hear when an ancient truck is passing by. This was weird
here, in Beverly Hills. I got up, and put my pink robe on I needed to know what was happening
outside. I couldn t believe what was in my sight. It was a huge, oval, metallic thing. For me to look
like an enormous satellite, but as soon as I had that thoughtI remembered of a TV show of an alien

Today there s a fashion show in my planet, but I m not going because I don t have clothes. Also
because I m not welcome there. All the girls from my planet are pretty, so they always make fun
at me. She was starting to sob. I didn t agree with her so I tried to cheer her up. You re really
pretty and you could win any fashion show. She smiled and then said, You think so? When she
said that I had the best idea in the world. I nodded thinking about my idea then she asked, What are
you thinking of? Wait for me in my room, I ll be back in two hours. I demanded politely. I decided to
the twenty four hour mall by myself. I was going to buy a lot of clothes for Renesmee. People
from Neptune would not have clothes as extravagant as people from Earth. Since I lived in
Beverly Hills I went to the best stores I knew. I got a lot colorful shoes, and a ton of clothes. It
would ve been better if Renesmee had come, but it wouldn t be normal for someone to be greenish.
After I finish shopping I decided to run home. When I got home
The Monsters On Maple Street Analysis
The Monsters on Maple Street is an episode from the TV series Twilight Zone. The episode is
about aliens from Outer Space who cut off everyone s electricity on Maple Street. The aliens
wanted to see if the humans would turn on each other which is exactly what they did. The humans
all started to accuse each other and at the end, they started to be violent and hurt each other. The
aliens lesson or message is that without someone to blame people make up people to blame. One
example of the aliens lesson is when the neighbors all start accusing each other. The text states
Charlie has to be the one. Where is the kid Let s get him. This proves the alien s message because
when they turned off their power everyone started blaming each other because
