Reoccurring Feature In 20th Century Fashion
A reoccurring feature in 20th century fashion was how the shape of the female body looked. Trying
to find different, innovative ways of manipulating and displaying the curvature of the body.
Between 1900 and about 1907 has become an extension of the late 19th century for fashion.
Women were still wearing constraining, tightly laced, whalebone corsets to exaggerate the shape
of the female torso as it was very admirable to have a well rounded figure. During this period,
women s clothes were very feminine with a high use of soft colours, such as lilacs, typically the
designs were very floral. The dresses covered women from the neck down and were highly decorated
with a lot of jewellery. It was considered very fashionable for blouses to be garnished with lace or
frill trimmings and to have big skirts that trailed ... Show more content on [Link] ...
In the second half of the decade, ladies felt a lot more liberated with more women going to college
and university. As well as the votes for women campaign which brought more independence. This
showed in the clothes that they wore as dresses became more practical, allowing women to take
part in more sports and physical activities like cycling. The dresses were shortened, still touching
the floor but without the trail, and more pleats were added so that movement was easier. Although,
a lot of men did not like the newer flowing dresses, French designer Paul Poiret was an exception.
Poiret elevated fashion as he was keen to get back to the less corseted, natural shape of the body
through dresses. He was well known for his use of vibrant, warm colours and combining art in his
designs. Losing the corset meant that clothes were less tight on the waist, as an alternative keeping
the high waisted effect. Another fashion statement of the
Informative Speech On Type 2 Diabetes
There are many medical diseases that people have. A type of medical disease that a lot of people
have is diabetes. Many suffer from this disease, and it is becoming more common. In my life I
know of two family members who have diabetes. It doesn t seem like diabetes is a big deal, but it
actually is life threatening to some. Diabetes doesn t just occur in certain people. It can be
diagnosed to anybody, but more commonly in obese people. As of 2015, 30.3 million Americans
had diabetes (CDC Newsroom). Some causes of diabetes is obesity, and family history. Diabetes is
also diagnosed when your body doesn t get enough or any insulin. Another cause of diabetes is if
your body doesn t use the insulin right. If you aren t getting insulin properly,... Show more content on

Another type of diabetes is Gestational diabetes. This type of diabetes occurs only in pregnant
women. Not many people are diagnosed with this type, but it can be a risk. Even if you are
diagnosed with gestational diabetes the baby will still be healthy. If you have gestational diabetes,
then you are more likely to get type 2 in the future.
In order to know if you have diabetes you have to get tests done. A test you can get done to see if
you have diabetes is an A1C test. An A1C test measures the percentage of blood sugar attached to
hemoglobin. If your blood sugar is high then more sugar will be attached to the hemoglobin. 5.7 is
a normal A1C level. If your A1C level comes back 6.5 or higher you will be diagnosed with
diabetes. It is better to get a test done by a professional, rather than just trying to do the test

Oral Vaccination Research Paper
Many also worry that vaccinations are too traumatizing for children. Many children do fear
visiting their doctor because they know that at some point there is a chance they will have to
endure being stuck with a needle. On average a child who follows their vaccination schedule will
receive 49 shots or oral vaccinations by the time they turn 18. This combined all adds to concern
that exposing the child to pain and possible disease is not worth the risk. Many healthcare
professionals have taken a stand against this belief stating that a life threatening disease staring a
child right in the face is much more scary that the thought of being poked by a needle. The
percentage of children who contract the disease from a vaccinationis much lower than the percentage
of children who have contracted diseases they have not been immunized for. Many doctors are

This is described as Provisional Admittance , which is an understanding between the school and the
family of the child that says that they must provide documentation within a certain amount of time
that either exempts them from vaccinations or in which they have to get vaccinated. The main issue
with this process is that these students get lost in the system and are not properly followed up,
meaning that many of them never receive their vaccinations. Challenges to this include religious
exception and parental involvement. In high schools or middle schools, parents are not always
involved and willing to take the action. This is not the fault of the child and therefore it would be
wrong to exclude the child from and education due to their parent s actions. Better solutions to make
steps in the right direction would be to implement shorter probation periods (i.e. 30 days rather than
6 months), and reviewing exception rules from a government standpoint (Davis et al.
Racism In African Society
The belief that African societies were primitive and uncultured is not only bogus, but it is an
example of white racist framing that is utilized to perpetuate and excuse the oppression of people of
color (Feagin, 2014). African civilizations prior to the Atlantic slave trade, like the Songhai Empire,
Kanem Borno Empire, and the Kingdom of Kongo were modern, innovative, technologically
advanced, and politically savvy. African societies were advanced in grain cultivation, the creation of
tools and weapons, art, and architecture (Walker, 2015; Harty Allen, 1997) A commonality among
all African cultures prior to the Atlantic slave trade is the emphasis on the importance of family
relations, kinship, and close ties with extended family (Harty Allen, 1997).
The Songhai Empire ruled over two thirds of West Africa from 690 AD to 1591 (Walker, 2015). The
Songhai Empire maintained both a political and a cultural capital. The cultural capital, Tinbuktu,
was three times the size of London (Walker, 2015). The Songhai Empire erected extraordinary
monuments including The Great Mosque of Djenne, which is the largest clay structure in existence
(Walker, 2015). Some homes contained lavatories, which was far more advanced than homes in
major cities during the same time period (Walker, 2015).
Education was of great value to this society, and a large population of citizens attended universities
(Walker, 2015). Educated men were esteemed and well paid (Walker, 2015). The Songhai had a

Examining the Music of Big Fish and Cold Mountain Essay
Concerning the genre spectrum, Big Fish and Cold Mountain are miles apart. The first is a magical
assortment of reality and fantasy driven by a man running from a loved one; the second is a
historical fiction propelled by a man seeking a loved one. In addition to the dramatic and thematic
differences, the underscoring of both films is opposing in the methods used to achieve similar ends;
namely, serving the five functions. Danny Elfman, the composer for this Tim Burton film, interlaced
an intricate and organized underscoring for the film, forming a piece that rivals that of Edward
Scissor Hands.

A first noticeable difference between the two films is the sheer amount of underscoring and source
music used in one film as compared to ... Show more content on [Link] ...
No grudge is held against the compositions of Cold Mountain for the simplicity, as the film itself
was a solemn, cold natured film. Cold Mountain s frigid demeanor allowed for little expression in
the musical moments, unlike in Big Fish, where Elfman was able to tap into the expressiveness of
the film to add variety and expressionism to the score. Thus, the two contrasting natures of the films
are what give birth to the contrasted leitmotive natures.

Concerning the conciseness of the scores, Big Fish was overall bigger, louder, and more
expressive. Both films did share similarity, in that, they both had moments of grandeur and score
explosion; however, Big Fish has more of these moments. The cause of this effect is due partly to
how much room each individual composer had been given to express his ideas. Cold Mountain
had too much of the same theme to allow a free ranged compilation of a variety of musical ideals.
Instead, because of the seriousness of the film, Cold Mountain had to use scoring more so in a time
and setting manner, often resorting to massive amounts of source music. While Big Fish also used
source music, there was much more underscoring, more then was presented in Cold Mountain. The
many stories and magical tales told by William, Edward, and Jenny allowed for Danny Elfman to
develop all sorts of musical ideas and themes, as in the interesting underwater music at
Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Analysis
Importance of Name and Remember in Dante s Inferno and Beowulf
One of the important themes that stands out in Dante s epic poem, Inferno , is a theme of legacy
via endurance of one s name. In other words, the human need to have one s name and story shared
with others in an effort to gain some sense of immortality. Even from the depths of hell the
characters in the Inferno express a wish to have their stories told. The Inferno tells of Dante s
adventure through the depths of Hell with the spirit of the great Roman poet Virgil as his guide. In
this epic adventure, Dante treks the Nine Circles of Hell and in each circle he encounters
prominent figures in both his personal life and in history. The poem as a whole is a commentary
on sins and transgressions, but the significance of these transgressions are amplified with the
attachment of names we the readers recognize from history and literature. Among them are figures
one would expect to be Hell for their famous transgressions such as Judas Iscariot, Attila the Hun
and Brutus but also more surprisingly Ulysses, the hero from Homer s Iliad and Odyssey, who is in
the Eighth Circle of Hell for the crime of spiritual theft and Pope Celestine V, whom Dante
condemns for abdicating the papacy and thus allowed Pope Boniface VIII to become the new pope.
This was a transgression worthy of hell in Dante s eyes because historically Pope Boniface VIII
was something of a rival to Dante, who had been an advocate for the separation of
Margaret Mead Vs. Letty Cottin Pogrebin
To clarify, Margaret Mead and Letty Cottin Pogrebin discussed the superstitious beliefs of
individuals, how such superstitious beliefs are passed onto generation after generation, and how
certain ritual practices are used. Even so, Margaret Mead concentrated on the superstitious beliefs
and ritual practices of those who are apart of the contemporary world, those who are affiliated with a
specific religion, and those who come from sophisticated homes. Whereas, Letty Cottin Pogrebin
concentrated on the superstitious beliefs and ritual practices of her mother. With that being said,
Margaret Mead reflected more on superstition than Letty Cottin Pogrebin did. With that being the
case, Margaret Mead apos;s essay was more effective.
Likewise, in the essays, quot;New Superstitions for Old quot; by Margaret Mead and
quot;Superstitious Minds quot; by Letty Cottin Pogrebin discussed the superstitious beliefs
possessed by individuals as well as the ritual practices that followed with these superstitions.

The Importance Of Gangs On Society
In everyday life there is about 30,000 gangs in the world (Criminal Justice Degrees Guide).
People go in gangs to make friends so they don t get picked on, but is gangs there is a cruel gang
that picks on the other gang that is careful. They care for other people unlike the ones that don t
care. When people organize into groups, one group is always the instigator, and picks on other
groups. S.E. Hilton is the lady that wrote the outsiders. She was writing this book based on what
she saw going on around her house. She knew that the greasers were the sweet and caring, they
cared about people s feelings unlike the Socs. The Socs were the gangthat did not have feelings, and
did not care about anything they were doing they hurt people and things. The greasers weren t
attempting to hurt anyone, but they did do mean stuff to people s property. The Socs went around
hurting the greasers and did not care. The Socs were being a disgrace to the people and made the
society bad because people were afraid of the Socs. When you go around hurting people they aren t
going to like you they are going to run from you.
The Socs thought, though they were all that because they re rich unlike other groups. Ponyboy
said in the book We re poorer than the Socs and in middle class (3). The Socs have their parents to
pay for their college education so after school they can all hang out and play. Darry, a Greaser, did
not go to college. He worked to make money for his brothers go to college. As
Bilingual Education Report
As a middle school ESL teacher in one of the states which has legally mandated the pedagogically
questionable supported English immersion (SEI) as the preferred manner of instruction for English
language learners, I have not yet been persuaded by those who insist that the elimination of bilingual
education has been a disaster. I concede that my perspective is impacted by having seen the results of
perhaps an uncommonly low quality bilingual program in my own district. When I first started
teaching in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 2006, the middle school students who had been in a district
dual language program were shockingly lower in their English proficiency than the students who had
attended elementary schools with predominately English... Show more content on [Link] ...
The 1980s also saw the rise of a number of organizations which promoted the exclusive use of
English in American public life and schools. The research support for this backlash seems to have
rested primarily on reviews of previous program evaluations conducted by Baker and de Kanter
(1981, 1983), with more than 90% of the previous studies being excluded because Baker and de
Kanter deemed them methodologically unsound. However, their analysis was rapidly contested by
critics who felt that had these researchers properly accounted for variables across the studies, the
results from the meta analysis would instead have demonstrated small to moderate differences
supporting bilingual education (Nieto, 2009).
The tide turned again with the 1994 Clinton Administration reauthorization of the Bilingual
Education act, also known as the Improving America s Schools Act, which promoted bilingual
education for the first time not just to help immigrants learn English, but also as way to develop the
human capital of the nation and promote American competitiveness in the global economy. The
result of this extension was the expansion of developmental bilingual education, which included two
way bilingual programs serving both mainstream and language minority students (Nieto,
The Act Of Investing Money For Your Own Country s Stock...
Introduction
The act of investing money in your own country s stock market is relatively easy. All you need to
do is get a hold of your stock broker or log into your online account and place a buy or sell order.
On the flip side, investing in a company that is listed on a foreign stock exchange is much more
complicated. Where would one begin? However, now there is an easier way to invest in foreign
markets from the U.S, this is through the American Depositary Receipts (ADRs). According to
Investopedia, there are more than 2,000 foreign companies world wide that provide this option for
U.S and Canadian investors interested in buying shares. The purpose of this research paper is to
define what an ADR is, explain how ADRs work, mention the different types of ADRs, and lastly,
outline the risks and benefits of ADRs to US investors and issuers.
American Depositary Receipt
Investopedia defines American Depositary Receipt as a negotiable stock that trades in the United
States but represents a specified number of shares in a foreign corporation. ADRs are bought and
sold in American markets like normal stocks, and are distributed or sponsored in the U.S. by a
depositary bank or brokerage. Investopedia confirms that ADRs were introduced to the financial
markets in 1927, as a result of the complexities involved in buying shares in foreign countries and
the difficulties related to trading at different prices and currencies. It is because of this that the U.S
banks purchase huge
How Customization And Service Quality
Customization and service quality are both important aspects for any successful restaurant. These
components have many different qualities that can ultimately be very beneficial for businesses or
quite the contrary. By executing these qualities in a particular restaurant setting it is likely that the
given company will prosper. For my application paper I will focus in on how customization and
servicequality can be improved specifically at Charley G s Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Charley G s Restaurant takes pride in having exceptional service. The staff is very accommodating
to customers and do they do their best to provide phenomenal service. The restaurant is equipped
with Point of Sales system which helps waiters quickly and efficiently send orders out to the
kitchen which is very beneficial when it comes down to customizing particular orders. In fact, both
the line cook and the saucier chef for the restaurant were both definitely in favor of using the
technology. Jordan Causey, a line cook for Charley G s, commented You can type in specifically
what each customerwants. It speeds up the ordering process tremendously because the orders are
immediately sent to our kitchen staff (Causey). (See exhibit 1) Because the kitchen gets the orders
in so quickly, it accelerates the entire cooking and service process immensely. Although we have
come to the conclusion that the POS system is definitely an advantage to Charley G s, it also has
one downfall, personal errors
Selective Breeding Research Paper
Selective Breeding is the process through which plants and animals with certain traits are bred
together to produce an offspring with desired traits. In other words, the process in which humans
choose the traits which they want in a plant or animal, and they breed them hoping for a plant
which can grow bigger, or maybe an animal which can be stronger. Selective Breeding is all about
the inheritance of genes and alleles. Scientists may breedindividuals to their desired traits, whilst also
being aware of possible recessive genes. Chromosomes which carry genetic codes for an organism,
determine the features and characteristics of that organism. Each organism has different features and
characteristics, this is when selective breeding takes place,... Show more content on [Link]

With dogs, selective breeding is of benefit so we can breed out diseases and breed dogs for different
purposes. Selective breeding in general means we can breed cows which can produce more milk or
chickens which can lay more eggs, because with a growing population we do need more food, this is
another reason as to way selective breeding is ethical in general as it is one of the buggiest
advantages. Selective breeding could be considered in ethical when used to cross breed dogs just for
a cuter appearance, whereas cross breeding dogs to make it stronger and faster is ethical and more
beneficial for dogs. This has a positive impact on society as dogs and in general selective breeding
has many benefits on people.
In conclusion, selective breeding does have its general advantages of eliminating diseases,
removing undesired traits, and an increased population, to also having it advantages in selective
breeding in dogs. But it can also have it disadvantages of animal discomfort, no control over the
genes, and it can also be time consuming and can risk inbreeding of organisms, and also having
further disadvantages in dogs, but it is done correctly and efficiently, selective breeding can make a
big difference, to genes, and the future generations of plants and animals
