Social Influence Research
Social Influence Research Do the Ends Justify the Means?

To what extent does the importance of social influence research, justify the methods used in its
investigation?

The debate about ethics in psychology focuses on two areas: protection of participants and
benefiting society. This is a double obligation dilemma as if some psychologists are not allowed to
do certain experiments because of ethical restraints; this can cause problems with validity. In social
psychology, these psychologists have an obligation to use their research skills to advance our
knowledge of human behaviour, for the ultimate aim of human betterment.

Milgram s study into obedience involved participants becoming a ... Show more content on

The findings of this research seem to justify the ethical guidelines broken as this experiment is a
crucial insight into understanding the extent to which people obey. Also, this experiment would not
have worked if it had followed all rules as the participants would have known the shocks were false
and therefore the experiment would not have been so impactive. The participant would know he/she
was not harming the learner in anyway and therefore be much more willing to follow orders.

Zimbardo s prison experiment was a lab based experiment involving participants being assigned to
the role of guard or prisoner and then spending 5 days (originally 14 days but the experiment was
disbanded after 5) in a prison set up in the basement of a university. Each prisoner was arrested in
their own homes and taken to the prison. In the course of the experiment it was noted that the
prisoners were dehumanised, humiliated and some suffered psychosomatic rashes and even seizures.
The guards became ruthless, guiltless and seemed to enjoy the dominance and power they had over
the prisoners. The aim was to investigate how people conformed
Racism And Income Inequality In The United States
Racism and inequalities have existed, exists now, and will be here long after we are gone.
However, racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully
eradicated, it is to the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of
life, such as income levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to
systemic racism. It is a person s own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that
determine their level of achievement. Of the many cultures in this country, some are more goal
driven and can better thrive in a capitalist society. Then there are some cultures that don t do so well.
So, even though racism does exist in the united states, it is not to the point where it grants benefits to
white people. There are many factors to income inequality in this country, not all of which are
connected to racism, but one s personal choices. The most prevalent factor that contributes to income

As it relates to the education system, cultural differences are a main factor for the disparities among
the races. Despite this, the Affirmative Action quota system was implemented in order to promote
diversity in places of higher education. Policy makers in this country have gone out of their way to
ensure that their illusion of an equal playing field exists. However, in the court case Gratz v.
Bollinger, the Supreme Court ruled that the University of Michigan s application was riddled with
racial discrimination against non minorities. Pew Researchers even found that of those personally
affected by Affirmative Action, including minorities and non minorities, 4% benefited while 11%
were hurt by its effects. The only beneficiaries were those of the black community while Affirmative
Action policies were most detrimental to white
Why Are The Four Gospels Essay

Why are there 4 Gospels?

1) Why do we have 4 different accounts (gospels) of Jesus life and teachings?

The gospel writers tell us the story about the life of Christ, told from different perspectives because
each disciple had a unique message to a different audience. They were written between two
generations after the death of Jesus, and are based on the stories of Jesus and his ministry, told by his
followers. The church did not combine these accounts into one gospel, but preserved them as four,
maintaining their individual views of the teachings, ministry and life of Jesus. In Matthew, Jesus
was the Messiah of Israel. He is the ideal servant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would only listen to their own, so the strategies Mark used were to draw parallels between the
life of Jesus and events from Israel s history. His gospel parallels the Torah, the most sacred book of
the Hebrew Bible, and the five books of Moses. It tells the relationship of Jesus to the Old Testament
prophets. Matthew wrote to prove that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Messiah s prophecy; the King
of the Jews. He records how the promises God made in the Old Testament, are realized in Jesus.
Matthew encouraged Jewish converts to maintain their Hebrew Scriptures, which now gained
significance through Jesus and continue to be the sacred scribe of the kingdom of heaven.

3) Who was Mark s primary audience? What unique strategies does he use to address this audience?

Mark s gospel was written Christians who were living under threat of persecution by the Jews in
the Roman Empire who were unfamiliar with the Jewish religion. Christ is portrayed as the servant
and the son of God. Since Mark was not written to a Jewish audience, his strategy was to explain
customs that Jews would have known, that the Romans would be unfamiliar with. His gospel is
action packed with the powerful ministries of Christ, to show He could meet their deepest needs.

My Hero Is A Hero
I normally never have trouble writing essays, but when my teacher told us we would have to write
about our Michigan hero, my mind went blank. Once I thought about it, I had many names racing
through my head but I kept coming back to one. However I brushed it off and went through the
names one more time. As my description of a herobecame clearer, I found myself back to the person I
first had thought of:my mom.
Robin Renee Yancer was born December, 4th, 1983. Maybe she s not as patient, brave or selfless
as most. So you may ask, How is she a hero? When I think of a hero none of those words come to
mind. My mom has stuck by me through everything, when my dad first left my world became
cold, I felt unwanted. Only four at the time I didn t see how a parent could just do this to a child
or how in the long run it could be a good thing someone with that much meaning could just vanish
and eventually you wouldn t care. Every time I time I cried over people s stupidity she never
judged me but instead took me into her arms and there I stayed protected from the world. We
moved around a lot when I was little and Coleman,Mi is the place where I have stayed the
longest. There has come times when my mom is going through some rough things but she doesn t
abandon me, she is still there taking care of me. She could be crying herself to sleep, not caring
about the world and still speak these words to me, I want us to both be able to be happy, it s not
about me being happy anymore. In my

One of the reasons for nurse burnout is inadequate staffing. Inadequate nurse staffing effects many
individuals. Most importantly, patients, nurses as well as hospital administrators. According to
Department of Professional Employee [DPE], (2016), staffing issues affect nurses as it leads to
nurse burnouts and affects nurse s health, increasing their risks for hypertension, cardiovascular
disease and depression. Understaffing also leads to expensive human resources problems that can
affect hospital administrator s budgets. The harsh demands of nursing are forcing nurses to
consider alternative careers. Studies have shown the overall turnover cost per registered nurse is
$65,000 (DPE, 2016). One solution proposed by NYSNA is the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act,
it proposes to require acute care facilities and nursing homes to implement certain direct care nurse
to patient ratios in all nursing units; sets minimum staffing requirements; requires every such facility
to submit a documented staffing plan to the department on an annual basis and upon application for
an operating certificate; authorizes nurses to refuse work assignments if the assignment exceeds
the nurses abilities or if the minimum staffing is not present. (bill A6571) This bill was passed by

Essay Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney’s Poetry
Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney s Poetry

How much does an artist s life affect the art they produce? One s art certainly can be an expression
of one s surroundings and in this manner the surroundings are woven like a thread into their body of
work. Seamus Heaney, born and raised in Northern Ireland, has grown up with many strong
influences in his life that are visible in his poetry. As Robert Buttel claims in his article on Seamus
Heaney the imprint of this poet s origins is indelibly fixed in his work (180). Living in the bogland
as Heaney has described Northern Ireland left an imprint on his poems, as he often depicts the lush
green countryside and pastoral scenes of his youth. However, he also acknowledges his modern
society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these dualities in his poetry, his art, can be linked to his biography. The tense social and
political atmosphere he was raised in, the local verses and scholarly education he received, the
emotional fluctuations caused by IRA bombings and peace protests all contribute to the splitness in
his poetry.

This poignant dichotomy is seen explicitly in two poems in Seamus Heaney s Field Work. One
poem, The Strand at Lough Beg is written for Heaney s cousin Colum McCartney (ambushed and
shot in a sectarian killing) and is rich with pastoral scenery, dark tones, and religious imagery
(Vendler 60). Another poem, A Postcard from North Antrim is about his friend the social worker
Sean Armstrong (shot by a pointblank teatime bullet ) (Vendler 60). These two elegies, both with
a strong presence of Heaney s personal voice, are imbued with a sort of ambiguity as Heaney
struggles with the death of two people who were both very close to him. In both poems, Heaney
tries to converse with and question the dead in an attempt to rationalize, or at least display his
sentiments on the untimely deaths (Parker 159). It is interesting to watch Heaney oscillate in
imagery, tone and diction as he progresses through both poems. This wavering can be seen as a
result of Heaney s background.

Seamus Heaney was born in Mossbawn, 13 April 1939, the place of the family farm in County
Derry, Northern Ireland, nearly 30 miles

Shooting An Elephant Individualism
Although humans exhibit strong preferences for equity and moral prohibitions against harm in
many context, people s priorities change when there is an us and them (Saxe). Within society, many
individuals are beginning to identify with various groups that begin to tear each other down, rather
than lift each other up. The urge to fit in eventually overpowers the mind of one s independence.
The need to be accepted and to have the approval of others ultimately conflicts with one s own
morals and beliefs. Although individualism is highly praised, one s surface attributes and
appearance may have a negative connotation in that they are categorized as a specific stereotype,
therefore these ideas will turn toxic as one is automatically grouped... Show more content on

There are no longer independent individuals working together, instead there are groups who
compare themselves to others and believes that they are more superior. With separate groups
there is a standing of hierarchy and a battle to be at the top. There is a sense of prejudice that
forms which often leads to tragedies. Hitler was known for being anti Semitic, resulting him in
leading the Nazi s in killing millions of innocent Jewish people. Hitler used his standing in
society to spread propaganda against the Jews, and cause prejudice amongst ethnicities. An
unnecessary divide is created between individuals when placed in groups. Hitler believed that his
race was far superior to any other race, and believed that those that were not of similar kind to him
were considered evil. With the identification of a group there becomes the need to be at the top.
With groups there becomes a classification. The prejudice of each group comes from a focus on the
differences, and discrepancy within each group. These differences begin to evolve and eventually
becomes hatred and prejudice. The hatred and disdain results in conflict and war. Innocent civilians
are put at risk, and innocent individuals are hated upon simply because of a group
Capulet In Romeo And Juliet
Similar to a parasite, Juliet, the daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet in the play Romeo and Juliet
by William Shakespeare, is a character who is very dependent and doesn t formulate her own
opinion. So, throughout the course of the story, Juliet develops her own thoughts and continuously
becomes more independent according to the experiences she faces, consisting of disobeying her
parents, falling deeply in love with Romeo and finally accomplishing her liberty. William
Shakespeare has created Juliet by interpreting her as a character who has transferred from a
dependent person to an independent person. For instance, while Juliet was asking the nurse about
the fight between Romeo and Tybalt, Juliet says, What storm is this that blows so contrary?... Show

For example, on the Balcony scene, when Romeo encountered Juliet, Juliet exclaimed, O Romeo,
Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? / Deny thy father and refuse thy name, / Or, if thou wilt not,
be but sworn my love, / And I ll no longer be a Capulet (2.2.36 39). This showcases that Juliet truly
loves Romeo, meaning she regrets that Romeo is a Montague and that she is a Capulet. The
division between their families produces a lot of issues for them because the Capulet and the
Montagues have massacred themselves continuously. Shakespeare uses connotation by deeply
showing that Juliet essentially asks Romeo, why he is a Montague? Juliet asks Romeo to object
his last name, so they could have a peaceful relationship, not separated by violence. In addition to
this, when Juliet went to consult Friar Lawrence concerning the marriage with Count Paris, she
said, O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, / From off the battlements of any tower, / Or walk in
thievish ways, or bid me lurk / Where serpents are. Chain me with roaring bears, / Or hide me
nightly in a charnel house (4.1.78 81). This demonstrates that Juliet prefers to die than to marry
Count Paris. She is essentially saying that she ll do anything not to marry Paris. She also says that
she prefers to live with the corrupt and the unfair people. In conclusion, this symbolizes that Juliet s
love for Romeo has transferred to a very deep level, thus, demonstrating a change in Juliet s
behavior, so, this portrays a dynamic
Aesthetics In Honduras
V.Religion and Aesthetics In Honduras, Christianity is the prevalent religion. 97% of the
population is Roman Catholic and 3% are Protestants. This widespread of Christianity traces its
roots back to the early sixteenth century when the Spanish invaded Honduras. Folk dances and
modern dances are enjoyed by Hondurans. The sique and mascaro are the two main types of folk
dances in Honduras (Painter, 2016). VI.Living Conditions Rural conditions are vastly different
from those who live in the city. 60% of the land is forested while 25% is available for agriculture.
Many of the citizens are farmers because of the amount of land accessible to farm with. The
quality of soil is far less than standard. In the mountainous areas, the soil is either eroded or not
viable enough to sustain crops grown. Because of this, many small farmers are much poorer and
live in poverty. Many families eat corn or beans for the better part of each meal while meat is rare to

squat in locations not suitable for humans to thrive and dwell. This constitutes a low standard of
living in rural areas. Those who have money experience much better living conditions. They have
access to clean water and more food. Citizens in this class live in houses near populous cities or

Key Elements For Fedex Corporations Success From...
The FedEx Corporation has been the world s leading express shipping and distribution company
almost three decades. In its time frame, it has expanded into five companies that is spread across 211
counties. The purpose of this paper is to introduce some of the key elements to FedEx corporations
success from strategy, innovation, planning, and ethics. This paper will also examine and compare
the four types of innovation theories in relation to innovation, planning, strategy, and business ethics.
Innovation Theories Innovation is defined as a method to doing or creating something different or

Value innovation can be achieved by implementing a focus on innovation and creation of new
market possibilities (Value Innovation, 2015). Kim and Mauborgne explains how innovative
companies beat their competitors by creating products or services for which there aren t any
present. With value innovation it doesn t mean that a company develops or creates new goods or
services. The goal of value innovation is to create new demands in efforts to change the market as
well as make competitors irrelevant. Value innovation can improve existing services as well as
lower the cost for the company and their customers. The Blue Ocean Strategy is a strategy that
companies use as an opportunity for quick profitable growth. It focuses on those markets within the
same industry that have not been in existence; therefore, competition is not an issue. The Blue
Ocean Strategy is different from the traditional strategy in that the traditional strategy focuses on
value and cost as a trade; however, for Blue Ocean Strategy, companies pursue the expansion of a
current product and low cost at the same time (Kim W. and Mauborgne, R., 2004). The key
elements of the Blue Ocean Strategy are: value proposition, profit proposition, and people
proposition; however, if one of these propositions is not addressed properly, then it causes an
imbalance in an effort to execute the strategy. (Kim, W.
Big Data Vs Mapreduce Framework
Big data has received popularity as datasets which are large that cannot be easily managed by the
traditional relational databases. Big data deals with high volume, variety and velocity of data.
However, if traditional relational database schemas are applied to big data, the large volume of
datasets cannot be processed and managed by these traditional techniques. The notable solution to
manage and process the data is MapReduce framework. MapReduce is programming model which
programming model where a large data sets is divided into small data sets; these small data sets
are processed in parallel by nodes(computers). This is called as batch processing, where each worker
node applies map function and reduce function to the associated data to... Show more content on

This architecture is composed of batch layer, speed layer and serving layer. The batch layer
computes views on the collected data. This collected data is processed multiple times. The speed
layer processes on the real input data. Most recent data are processed by this layer. Once the data
is processed from the speed layer to the batch layer the information generated is stored. The
drawback of this architecture is that each layer is a separate entity. The speed layer only deals with
the recent data while the batch layer computes the historic data. Thus, the data in the serving layer
is replaced by the recent data and views computed by the batch layer, reducing the size of the data.
As a result, this architecture is suitable for small datasets. This architecture also depends on heavy
use of memory and distributed computing technologies which reduces the processing efficiency of
the real time data. Machine learning Shallow In big data analytics, it is necessary to process the
data accurately in order to generate appropriate information and knowledge from the input data in
order to make appropriate decision for business. Machine learning techniques are used in real
applications. The aim of machine learning is to create models, improve the previous models by
learning from the accumulated data. Feature extraction is of the important characteristic of machine
learning. These features are
The Scientific Management And The Human Relations Theories
This essay will be evaluating both the Scientific management and the Human relations theories in
today s management of organisations. Scientific management theory was founded and published by
Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1909 where he proposed that productivity can be increased by
augmenting and simplifying workloads which then improves economic efficiency (Economist,
2009). On the other hand, Human relations theories focuses on personal factors and suggests that
motivation and leadership are the features that help encourage workers to work productively
(Dininni, 2017).

For Scientific Management Theory, one of Taylor s four principles was the rule of thumb where
managers should think and use scientific method to increase production by ... Show more content on

As opposed to Taylor s scientific theory, human relations theory value the workers which leads to
increased motivation and productivity (Bianca, 2017). An example of this would be a private sector,
Google. Instead of adopting Taylor s style where there are strict rules, Google allows freedom for the
workers by letting them work when they want and allowing customisation of their own surroundings
(Garguilo, 2011). This gives them their personal freedom which in turn increases motivation to work.
Therefore, this suggests that even though Taylor diminished social factors, human relations theory
gives evidence that social factors such as freedom does affect productivity in today s management.

Taylor suggested a piecework pay system where workers are payed according to their productivity.
Therefore, a worker with high productivity gets higher wages than those with less productivity.
This results in the motivation of the employees to work at an efficient rate which will mean greater
productivity and higher pay (Lawler, 2000). In addition, the customers are benefitted as enhanced
productivity will lead to advanced service or additional products created. This system can be
applied into a public sector such as libraries where the standards of
