“Moana 2”
"I am Moana of Motunui. You will board my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of
Te Fiti." The greatest line of the movie series. Moana 2 is set three years after the events of the first
film and is co-directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The story follows Moana as she embarks
on a new adventure, receiving a vision from her ancestor, Tautai Vasa, who warns her that the storm
god Nalo has sunk the legendary island of Motufetu, severing the ocean's connection between
islands. To save her people, Moana sets sail with a diverse crew, which includes the resourceful
Loto, historian Moni, and the grumpy farmer Keke. Meanwhile, Maui is imprisoned by Matangi, a
bat goddess under Nalo’s control.
Facing challenges from the Kakamora and dangerous sea creatures, Moana and her crew
reach Motufetu, where Moana sacrifices herself to break Nalo's curse. Her bravery inspires Maui and
her ancestors to revive her as a demigoddess. Together, they restore the island and reestablish the
ocean's connections between its people. The film concludes with a celebration, though a mid-credits
scene hints at Nalo’s potential revenge, suggesting a future sequel. Themes of unity, courage, and
destiny define Moana’s journey.

From a feminist or gender criticism perspective, Moana challenges traditional gender roles by
presenting a strong, independent female protagonist. Moana is not defined by romance or a male
counterpart; rather, her journey is focused on self-discovery, leadership, and perseverance. She defies
societal expectations placed upon her as the future chief, illustrating that women can be strong
leaders without adhering to traditional norms.
