Hot Work Permit System Implementation
To enhance workplace safety and mitigate fire hazards, we are implementing a
formal Hot Work Permit System. This system is designed to regulate and control
activities that involve open flames, sparks, or high temperatures that could ignite
combustible materials. The key components of this system are as follows:
1. Defining Hot Work Activities and Authorization
Hot work includes activities such as welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, soldering, and
any other operation that produces heat, sparks, or flames.
• All hot work activities must be identified and assessed before commencement.
• A permit must be issued by the designated authority before any hot work
begins.
• Unauthorized hot work is strictly prohibited.
2. Responsible Oversight and Supervision
A senior staff member will be assigned to oversee the hot work permit process,
ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• This individual will review permit requests, assess risks, and ensure all
preventive measures are in place.
• The responsible person will conduct site inspections before, during, and after
the hot work.
3. Fire Prevention Measures
Strict fire prevention measures will be enforced to minimize risk.
• Fire extinguishers and suppression equipment must be readily available at the
worksite.
• All combustible materials within a 10-meter radius must be removed or
adequately shielded with fire-resistant blankets or shields.
• A designated fire watch individual will be assigned to monitor the work area
during and after the activity.
4. Post-Hot Work Inspections and Fire Watch Period
After completion of hot work, a post-work inspection will be conducted to ensure no
residual fire hazards remain.
• A mandatory minimum 30-minute fire watch period will be enforced.
• The designated fire watch personnel will remain on-site during this period and
monitor the area for any signs of smouldering or ignition.
5. Contractor Compliance and Permit Issuance
All contractors performing hot work on-site must comply with the permit system.
• Contractors must obtain and complete a hot work permit before commencing
any work.
• They must adhere to all fire prevention and safety protocols outlined in the
system.
• Non-compliance will result in immediate work stoppage and potential
penalties.
6. Documentation and Policy Review
A detailed Hot Work Permit Policy will be documented and made available to all
employees and contractors.
• This policy will include step-by-step procedures, roles and responsibilities,
and emergency response measures. See Attached
• Regular training and awareness sessions will be conducted to ensure
understanding and compliance.
By implementing this structured Hot Work Permit System, we aim to reinforce our
commitment to workplace safety and fire prevention.

department.
