TITLE:

LOVE CYCLE
INTRODUCTION:
“LOVE CYCLE” opens by
describing the action of the
sun at dawn. At the same
time, the poem compares the
action between the sun and
the earth to the aftermath
between the dispassionate
sex between a couple. It goes
on to describe the harshness
of the sun as dawn gives way
to noon. Here, ‘love cycle’
relates the earth endurance
of the sun’s scorching rays to
the forbearance of woman
dissatisfied by her partner.

SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF THE

POET:
CHINUA ACHEBE
-Born 16 November 1930
-renowned nigerian novelist,
poet, and essayist
-known for debut novel,
things fall apart (1958) which
is the modern African
literature
-besides his debut novel his
notable works include Arrow
of God (1964), A man of the
people (1966), and These
was a country (2012)
- Achebe lived 82 years and
died 21 march 2013

INTERPRETATION:
‘LOVE CYCLE’ portrays the
sun effect on earth (and vise
versa) as a hardly romantic
relationship. The poems
describe a couple the sun
angry male and the earth the
tolerance female. Achebe
uses literary devices,
symbolism, and imagery.

WHY DO YOU LIKE THE POEM?

:
I like the poem because
apart from the figurative and
deep words, the writer's
imagination is also very wide

SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO A
SUMMER DAY?

SCRAPBOOK IN 21ST
CENTURY AND
LITERATURE OF THE
PHILIPPINES AND THE
WORLD
INTRODUCTION:
This sonnet is certainly the
most famous of Shakespeare’s
sonnet.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF THE
POET:
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
-born on 1564 in Stanford
-an actor and still seen as the
most famous English poet
-he wrote 37 plays, including
comedies, histories and
tragedies, as well as 154
sonnets
INTERPRETATION:
Sonnet 18 is about a speaker
who is inlove with another
person and who is in the first
line of the poem posed a
question which suggest a
comparison between this
person and a summer day.
The second line defines the
superiority in the character
and appearance of the
beloved person over summer.
The following six lines reveal
the problems of the summer
season, summer is too short,
sometimes too hot and its
beauty decline time. Lines 9-
12 state that although the
poem set out to find
similarities between the
beloved person and summer’s
day, there is a quit difference
between them. Unlike the
beauty of summer the beauty
of the beloved person’s fade. As is expressed the conflict in the end, beloved
person will live as long as there are people who will read this poem.

WHY DO YOU LIKE THE POEM?:

I like the poem because it is a
straight forward language at
first, I did not understand
this sonnet but as I read it
several times it brought more
understanding than before. I
like his use of words and how
he expressed and admired
her beauty.
