Formal and Informal Greetings and Goodbyes.


(The story focuses on a man who had an accident at work, so he had to go to the hospital where he
is assigned to a room while waiting for a check-up).
Nurse: Good morning, Dr. Parker. The patient in room two has a suspected fracture. I’ve already
done the initial assessment and called for the trauma specialist as you requested.
Resident (Miss Parker): Thank you, Nurse. I’ll go check on the patient right away. Please inform
the trauma specialist as soon as he arrives.
(The trauma specialist arrives. The nurse introduces him to the resident formally.)
Nurse: Dr. Parker, May I introduce you to our trauma specialist? this is Dr. Smith, he has twenty
years of experience.
Resident (Miss Parker): Good morning, Dr. Smith. It’s a pleasure to meet you, as the nurse said
I’m the emergency doctor and I handle all the cases that arrive at the hospital. Thank you for
coming so quickly. We have a patient with a suspected fracture in room two.
Trauma Specialist (Mr. Smith): Nice to meet you too, Doctor Parker. Let’s go see the patient
together.
(They enter the room together. The patient and a family member are there.)
Resident (Miss Parker): Good morning, Mr. Payne. This is Dr. Smith, our trauma specialist. He’ll
be taking care of your injury.
Patient (Mr. Payne): Hello, Doctor. Thank you for coming.
Family Member (Ana): Morning doctor. My uncle had an accident at work while he was painting
a wall. It may be serious.
Patient (Mr. Payne): My niece Ana can be a little dramatic, I’m sorry. Ana listen, I will be okay,
don’t worry.
Trauma Specialist (Mr. Smith): Let’s take a look, Mr. Payne. Let me examine your injury.
(The trauma specialist examines the wound)
Trauma Specialist (Mr. Smith): It looks like nothing serious happened. With a prescription, you
will be fine, Mr. Payne.
Patient (Mr. Payne): Thank you, I hope so. I wish you both a great rest of the day.
Resident (Miss Parker): Don’t worry, you will be fine in a couple of weeks. If you have any
questions, feel free to contact me.
Family Member (Ana): Thank you, it was nice meeting you both. I appreciate everything you
have done for my uncle.
Resident (Miss Parker): Nurse, please give the patient the discharge order.
Nurse: Okay, doctor, I will do it.
(The patient and his niece go home. Two days later, they meet again)
Family Member (Ana): Hey uncle! How are you doing... and how is your injury healing?
Patient (Mr. Payne): Hello. I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt anymore.
Family Member (Ana): That’s great! I just stopped by to see how you were doing, I’m in a hurry.
Patient (Mr. Payne): Don’t worry, see you later.
Family Member (Ana): Bye, uncle!
