Monitoring with ProIT
Objective: Practical demonstration of Server/PC monitoring with the help of
some of the available NMS such as PerformanceIT or ProIT - as part of
facilitating network management.
Remote login to any PC in Progress A-Block Lab 3-26 using VMWare
HORIZON CLIENT. See the document “Remote Access for Students
Jan 6-2022” under Contents.
Once on the PC Desktop, using a Browser log on to the ProIT Server, insert the
following IP address:
[Link]/proit4 and press <enter>, in the login window you see

In the Management Center (MC) window click on 'My View'.
Intro to ProIT
Device Tree Toolbar
All NMS have the provision to restrict User View through Remote/ WEB access (this is
done for reasons no other than security). Also, in general, User View could be
customized. In your case, as a student view is limited to specific set of equipments and
read-only access to some Reports. If you are not allowed to configure- the toolbar may
not be available. Similarly, Device Tree, below, can have a restricted view.
The Device Tree tool bar is used to add devices, create new folders and delete folders. You can also move
folders/contents, copy contents to existing folders, find nodes, rename folders and explore folders' properties.
The Device Tree Tool bar consists of the following tools, which are described in greater detail in the advanced
section- see ProIT documentation.

Device Tree
The Device Tree is located at the screen's top left-hand corner. The Device Tree is
ProIT's navigational core and resembles a file folder system. There are five default
folders and each has a unique function:
§ Master
§ Discovered Devices
§ Relays
§ Shared Folders
§ User Views
Tabs
When you log onto your ProIT 4.0 Management Center you'll see several "tabs" labeled:
§ Monitoring
§ Alarms
§ Security
§ SLA

For details, you can consult the documentation ([Link]), or on your
domain controller on IBM-LAN in room 426.

The Tab Toolbar contains tasks that are related to the selected tab. Explore it.
View Area
A strong feature of PerformanceIT is its ability to monitor Servers, Workstations,
PCs as art of the Infrastructure. In that respect, ProIT should be able to monitor its
own self. This is what we shall explore and analyze in this lab.

What is the utilization of the server hard disk? How relevant this info will be if we know
that the server is running as VM machine image?
