Bunny

Supplies Needed:
● DK yarn (#3) I used Stylecraft Special {Candy Floss, Fondant & Aspen} and Bernat Softee Baby
{Antique White} approx: 80 yds (or less) of yarn total
● Size 2.75mm (US 2) DPN’s
● Black sewing thread (for mouth and sewing beads on)
● Size 8/0 (or 6/0) black seed beads (for eyes)
● Polyester stuffing
● Pins for positioning pieces
● Yarn needle
● Scissors
● Optional pom pom maker

Bunny is approx. 4 ½” tall from the tip of the ears to the feet

This bunny could also be knit in a yarn of your choice. Just make sure you go down 1-2 sizes for your knitting
needle to make the knit tighter for stuffing and adding facial features.

Gauge is not important

7 sts = 1”

Stitch Key:
WS – Wrong side

RS – Right Side

K – Knit

P – Purl

Sts – Stitches

St – Stitch

Kfb – Knit into front and back of stitch (increase)

Ssk – slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, insert left needle into front loops of slipped stitches
and knit them together.

K2tog – Knit 2 stitches together

K3tog – Knit 3 stitches together

K5sts Tbl – Knit the next 5 sts through the back loops

Stst – Stockinette stitch (knit right side row, purl wrong side row)

The Bunny is worked flat and the arms, feet and scarf are made by knitting an I-cord.

All cast ons are done using the long tail cast on.

Always leave a long enough tail when changing colors or binding off for sewing seams. The seam is at the back
of the bunny.

Stuff with small amounts at a time

I use the mattress stitch for sewing seams (helpful links below)

Finished measurements:
From tip of ears to feet: 4 ½” tall

Optional – make pom pom and attach to hat

Scarf:
Size 2 needles – I-cord

CO 5 sts

Make I-cord 9” long (or desired length)

BO stitches, weave in ends

Assembly:
Starting at the bottom of bunny bottom section (DO NOT use your cast on tail for this…use the tail you left
from starting after the shirt) sew seam using a mattress stitch.

Continue sewing seams, working your way up and using coordinating colors.
After you are done sewing the back seam, start stuffing your bunny from the bottom. Using your cast on thread
and a yarn needle, gather around cast on opening and pull to tighten – secure thread and run your needle
through the body and out to hide yarn tail.

Continue stuffing until your bunnies head is about 6 ½” around. (Fig. 3 & 4)

When you are satisfied with the “plumpness” of your bunny, using a yarn needle and a 12” piece of color A,
make tiny gathering stitches right above the shirt line. Pull to tighten and ties to secure. With a yarn needle pull
these threads the bunny to hide. (Fig.5)

Next…pull to tighten your cast off tail and secure thread.

**If your bunny has too much of a rounded bottom, thread your yarn needle with the cast off tail, push needle
through to the top of bunny head (you will have to “squish the bunny” but he will bounce back) until the bottom
is slightly indented (not much!). Secure thread and hide. (Fig. 6, 7 & 8)

Place hat on head. Stick pins in where the ear placement will be the eyes and pin arms and legs in place. Sew
these pieces on and hide all yarn ends. (Fig. 9 & 10)

Make a pom pom tail and attach to back at shirt line bottom ☺

Face

Use black sewing thread, doubled.

Sew seed beads in place and make 2 straight stitches on either side of eye….do not cut thread and begin mouth
by sewing “back stitches” in each stitch. You may need to go over stitches a couple of times to make them
“stand out” depending on what thickness of thread you use.

Nose is done with a satin stitch and dark pink yarn.
