Day 1: Introduction to Seeds & Types of Seeds
Learning Objectives
• Understand what seeds are and why they are important.
• Classify seeds as monocot and dicot.
• Observe real examples of different seeds.
Lesson Hook (5 min)
Mystery Bag Activity
Pass around a soft pouch with different types of seeds (chickpea, kidney bean, rice, wheat, etc.). Let
students feel the texture. Ask:
“What do you think is inside? What do they become?”
Introductory Story (5 min)
Title: "The Journey of Tiny Tanu"
"Tanu, a tiny tamarind seed, was confused. She was just lying under a tree, wondering, ‘Will I ever
grow up to be a tree like my mother?’ Her friend Bela, the bean seed, replied, ‘Every seed has a power
inside. We just need the right time and place to grow!’"
This story helps students emotionally connect with the concept of seed growth.
Seed Poem (3 min)
“I’m a Tiny Seed” (Recite together with actions)
"I’m a tiny seed, small and round,
I grow under the ground.
Give me water, sun, and care,
Soon you’ll see leaves up in the air!"
Activity 1: Seed Sorting (15 min)
Materials: Bowls with mixed seeds, magnifying glasses, classification chart.
Task: Students sort seeds into Monocot and Dicot using a visual aid (based on seed halves, shape,
and texture).
Seed Type Monocot Dicot
Rice
Kidney Bean
Wheat
Chickpea
Dyslexia Support:
• Use coloured visuals, bold labels.
• Provide printed word cards with images.
• Pair peer buddies for verbal support.
Explanation & Elaboration (10 min)
Use a diagram of monocot and dicot seeds with large fonts and coloured highlights.
Use real seeds + labelled drawings for multi-sensory learning.
Game Template: “Seed or Not?” (7 min)
Task: Show 10 items (e.g., rock, bean, stone fruit seed, button). Students vote using thumbs
up/down or colored flashcards.
Let them explain: “Why is this a seed?”
Assessment
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
1. What helps a seed grow into a plant?
o a) Rocks
o b) Water, soil, and sunlight
o c) Toys
o d) Air only
2. A chickpea is a:
o a) Monocot
o b) Dicot
o c) Leaf
o d) Flower
3. Monocot seeds have:
o a) Two seed leaves
o b) One seed leaf
o c) No seed leaf
o d) Many roots
4. Which of these is not a seed?
o a) Kidney bean
o b) Stone
o c) Rice
o d) Wheat
5. Which of the following is found inside a seed?
o a) A baby leaf
o b) Stone
o c) Sunlight
o d) Sand
Open-ended Questions
1. Why do you think seeds are important for plants and animals?
2. What differences did you notice between monocot and dicot seeds?
Day 2: Dispersal of Seeds
Learning Objectives
• Understand the need for seed dispersal.
• Identify the different methods of dispersal (wind, water, animals, explosion).
Lesson Hook (5 min)
Wind Dispersal Demo – Drop paper parachute seeds and cotton seeds from a height. Ask:
“Why do some float longer than others?”
Explanation & Elaboration (10 min)
Use an animated PPT or flipbook to show:
• Wind: Dandelion, cotton
• Animals: Burdock, mango
• Water: Coconut
• Explosion: Pea pod, balsam
Use sound effects or video clips to increase engagement.
Activity 2: Dispersal Match-Up (10 min)
Match seeds to their dispersal methods.
Seed Dispersal Method
Dandelion Wind
Coconut Water
Mango Animal
Balsam Explosion
Use Velcro boards or magnetic cards for tactile learners.
Creative Task (10 min)
Design Your Own Seed
• Choose how it moves: flies, floats, sticks, or pops!
• Draw + label it. Share in pairs.
Game Template: “Seed Dispersal Spin Wheel” (5 min)
Spin the wheel → Student must give an example seed and how it disperses.
Assessment
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
1. Coconut is dispersed by:
o a) Wind
o b) Water
o c) Animals
o d) Explosion
2. Burdock sticks to animals. This is:
o a) Wind
o b) Animal
o c) Water
o d) Fire
3. Which seed bursts open to spread?

Day 3: Integration, Choice Board & Recap
Learning Objectives
• Apply understanding through creative tasks.
• Make choices based on interests.
• Reflect and review concepts of seeds and dispersal.
Recap Game (10 min): “Seed Circle”
Students sit in a circle and pass a ball. When music stops, the student with the ball answers a
question:
“Name a seed that floats!” / “Tell one dispersal method!”
