ASSIGNMENT -3
Q.1 Draw a vector diagram for the circuit shown in Fig. below indicating terminal voltages V1 and V2

and the current. Find the value of (i) current, (ii) V1 and V2, and (iii) power factor.

Q.2 An R-L-C series circuit with a resistance of 10 Ω, inductance of 0.2 H and a capacitance of

40 μF is supplied with a 100 V supply at variable frequency. Find the following w.r.t. the series

resonant circuit:

(i) frequency at which resonance takes place

(ii) current

(iii) power

(iv) power factor

(v) voltage across R-L-C at that time

(vi) quality factor

(vii) half-power points

(viii) resonance and phasor diagrams

Q.3 Draw the star connected circuit given below (labelled properly) and derive the voltage, current
and power relations in a balanced star-connected load. Also draw the corresponding phasor diagram.
Q.4 Explain the working principle of a transformer. Differentiate between core and shell type
transformer.

Q.5 A 40 kVA, single phase transformer has 400 turns on the primary and 100 turns on secondary.
The primary is connected to 2kV, 50 Hz supply. Determine:

i) The secondary voltage on open circuit.

ii) The current flowing through the two windings on full load.

iii) The maximum value of flux.

Q.6 Write EMF equation of a transformer.

Q.7 What are various losses in a transformer?
