Part 1
Chapter One
I switch the TV channel to the one that plays my favorite show, but instead of that I see the
woman from the news announcing that every cell in the local prison opened for an unknown
reason, something that caused every prisoner to escape and walk in the city’s streets. She
ensures everyone that the local authorities are already searching for every prisoner that was
let free, but also says that multiple people are found dead in the streets with marks all over
their bodies. I start crying and I am now afraid for my life. A few minutes later, I decide to go
to bed and hope that everything will be over by the time I wake up or that this is another
nightmare I am having.
I wake up horrified from hearing someone banging my door in the middle of the night. Fear
starts to take control of my body. Before I face my fear and check who was outside my
house, I check the clock and when I see that it’s 1:20 AM I start panicking, breathing heavily
and getting more stressed after every second that passes. I have watched many horror
movies in my life, and I can ensure you that this is how everybody dies, which results to me
being super nervous to walk out of my room. But I must, so I uncover the version of myself
that never gets scared and find the courage to open my door. I walk slowly with my
pajamas, trying to make as less noise as possible. It is hard though since I must walk on
wooden floor. Every step I make stresses me even more, but I finally reach the front door. I
move to the kitchen to grab a knife, so I can defend myself if I need to. The banging gets
louder and louder and I keep hearing an angry voice screaming “Open the door.”, which
leads to me opening it, ready to stab the person in the other side of the door. I open the
door and when I’m ready to stab the person standing outside of my house, I realize it’s my
friend, asking me to stay here for the night, since he heard the news just like I did. A wave of
relief makes me calm and I show him the place he will sleep, since I understand that he is
scared too. I go to bed happy that I am still alive, but I don’t know that I left the front door
unlocked.
The noise of the alarm wakes me up at 8:00 AM like it does every day. I go downstairs, get
an empty bowl and fill it with milk and my favorite cereal, Lucky Charms. After I finish my
breakfast, I still haven’t seen my friend. I am thinking he probably overslept so I go to his
room and wake him up. But I didn’t find him there. I start wondering where he is and I
realize he probably woke up earlier and left the house, so I don’t care a lot, since I’ll text him
later. So, I make my bed and get dressed, but when I open the closet to find the clothes I will
wear today, I see something terrifying, and I start screaming. What I witness makes my
heart beat faster than it ever did. I see my friend dead. Blood is dripping from his chest,
which makes me immediately understand that he got stabbed there. Next to his dead body
there is a note that says “It’s your turn now” written with blood. I rush to call the police and
they tell me they will be there as fast as possible. When they arrive at the crime scene they
start investigating and searching for possible things that will help them find the killer, when
the phone starts ringing. The caller is unknown and when I pick it up, I hear a voice saying
“Sarah Woods, I am watching you. You are the next one I will cross of my list, and you know
it. Your time will come very soon, Sarah. Just wait.” He immediately hangs up after that and I
am shocked. I transfer his message to the police, begging them for help and asking them to
stay with them for a while, but they refuse, telling me they can’t let me stay with them and I
am not allowed to leave the city, since they need to lock the killers inside the city and not
lead them to other towns and villages nearby. However, they tell me they will find the killer
and save me. I am not relieved, since I know I will die in the next few days, even hours if the
policemen don’t find the person who is terrorizing me. I leave the house and go to the
nearest store with guns, so I can purchase one to help keep me safer. I find a gray one that
for sure will help reduce the chance of me getting killed. I fill it with bullets and carry it with
me everywhere I go. I arrive at my house again, while the police is leaving, having all the
information they want. I spend the rest of the day horrified that I would die, until the sun
set, and I knew that there was a higher chance I would get killed when it’s night time. I
brush my teeth and I go to bed, hoping that I will wake up tomorrow safe. Before I do that
though, I lock the door, close the windows and leave my gun next to me, in the small table
near my bed.
I wake up from a scary nightmare at 2:30 AM and I realize I am safe. However, when I turn
around, I see that my gun is not where I left it and one of the windows is open. I look
around, but I don’t see anything. But when I try to fall back to sleep, I see the lights
flickering and I hear the radio from downstairs. I am so focused on these things though, that
I look at the light for a long time to try to understand what is going on. When I look away
though, I see a man dressed from top to bottom with fully black clothes, wearing a mask and
holding a knife.
That’s everything that was written on Sarah Woods’ diary before she died, says the
policemen to me, one of her friends. I am depressed lately since Sarah was one of my best
friends and I was so sad to see her dead, but also scared since I knew that the person who
murdered her was still in town. But first let me introduce myself. My name is Anna Johnson
and I live in a small town located outside Boston. I have long, red hair, blue eyes and freckles
on my face, which makes everybody think I look like a character from a TV show I don’t even
know. I am a college student and Sarah Woods was one of my best friends, which is why I
was devastated when I found out she was killed. At college, I spend most of time hanging
out with my friends, Tyler, who has brunet hair, blue eyes like me and is so brave that he
would fight a whole lion to save his friend, Bailey, who always dyes her hair pink, has brown
eyes and so much makeup in her face, that she looks like a doll sometimes, and lastly
Samantha, who is a Cuban girl with short, black hair and green eyes. She is my best friend
because she always puts my needs above her needs, and I know her since fifth grade. I also
hang out with my brother Philip, who is fat and short (don’t tell him I said that), but it
doesn’t matter because he is a lovely person, who is always polite and keeps calm even in
the most terrifying situations, which believe me is a skill that Is incredibly hard to develop.
We live all in different houses except me and my brother, who live in this beautiful
apartment that is filled with plants and has an incredible view of the place we are living at.
However, the good thing is that we are all neighbors. We visit our friends’ houses almost
every day to share our thoughts and experiences or watch a movie and have fun, playing
board games and eating as much as possible. We are always happy but lately we are not in a
great mood, after learning that our friend Sarah left us and everybody is scared, since they
know they could be the next victim of the killers that everyone has been talking about. For
the past few days though, we are living all together so our stress is reduced, and we are not
that scared of what could happen, since none of us is alone. One day though, everybody left
for their houses, and they went for sleep hoping for the best. Everybody else might not be
scared, but I am horrified after hearing about Sarah’s death. But I stay brave and decide to
sleep alone.
Chapter Two
I wake up randomly in the middle of the night, but for some reason my watch isn’t working.
Everything outside is black, so I can predict what time it is. Hearing the bell, I immediately
start running downstairs to open the door. When I reach the last few steps of my staircase, I
realize it could be the killer, so I ignore the bell and go back to sleep. That’s when I notice
my room’s window is open and the cold wind is giving me goosebumps. Seconds later, I
closed my window as fast as possible, hoping the killer is not inside. I am terrified but I try to
remain calm and don’t make any noise, hoping the killer didn’t enter my house. I try to fall
asleep, but I see something large under my blanket. It looks like a human, so I am ready to
start crying, but I know I must see what it is. I grab the blanket with one of my hands and I
throw it on the floor. I see a huge doll instead of a human which I was not expecting. I
ignore all these things and I go take a shower to relax. I make sure the water is hot, as I want
it to be, which is causing steams to blur the mirror and lower the visibility. I get out of the
bathtub, wipe my face with my favorite towel, a pink and soft one, and get dressed. After
that, I get out of the bathroom, well, at least I try to, since I find the door locked and
I check everywhere to see if someone is inside the room. Behind the towels, nothing. Inside
the basket for laundry, nothing. Behind the mirror, nothing. My last spot to check is inside
the bathtub, but I can’t see anything, since the steams from my bath have made the glass
foggy, so I go inside but I don’t find anything. Suddenly, I hear a key unlocking a door. I look
behind and I see the door of the bathroom is now open but no sign of anyone is around. I
walk slowly and I see a shadow outside of the room, so I start screaming and getting
nervous, which makes me vulnerable. I finally understand it’s just the shadow of my chair
and I relax again. I go to bed and when I try to turn around, to get a better position for my
sleep I see the killer. Its body is covered in a black costume and his face in a mask with two
long eyes and an open mouth. He is holding a kitchen knife and stabs me in the leg. I
immediately ignore the pain and the blood that’s running down my leg and I grab the knife
from his hand, and I threaten to kill him. We have now switched roles and he is clearly not
happy about that, so he starts running away, trying to escape and he disappears in the
darkness of the city’s cobbled streets. I place the knife gently on top of the table that is
situated in the corner of the room, and I try to fall asleep.
I wake up in what feels seconds later, and I don’t see the knife where I left it, so I realize it
was just a dream. I hate these nightmares that scare you so much you almost have a heart
attack during them. I get out of bed, I see the time and start my day normally by making
huge pancakes stacked on top of each other, with some maple syrup rolling down them and
creating the perfect combination. I top it off with some raspberries, blueberries and
blackberries and I enjoy this delicious creation. I change my clothes but that’s when I notice
a mark in my leg from a stab and I realize that maybe it wasn’t a dream after all.
