II. Course Description: Chemistry just like all the other disciplines of Science plays a vital role thus existing as part of the
curriculum. This course provides practical activities and rich content which aids in enhancing student’s cognitive,
analytic, critical, problem-solving skills, etc. The course provides opportunities to explore scientific ideas in relation to
the field of medicine and aids in enhancing understanding of varying concepts and practical applications in General
Chemistry. The course entails the following concepts particularly branches of Chemistry and its applications, scientific
method, measurements through metric system, states, phase changes and properties of matter, historic
development of atom, the periodic table, chemical formula, chemical bond, chemical reactions, balancing equations,
gas laws, blood pressure, solutions, colligative properties, stoichiometry and an introduction to organic chemistry.

III. Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the BSEd Students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts in General Chemistry by utilizing nursing
processes in the care of clients and in health promotion;
2. Apply basic concepts and skills in understanding and practicing health promotion, prevention, restoration of
health and alleviation of suffering most specially on the important uses and effects of chemical substances to the
body;
3. Use scientific approach in solving real world problems and in making sound judgment and decisions most
specially on the proper care and cure of patients;
4. Demonstrate desirable scientific attitudes and values in the verification of chemical laws and principles
particularly in the practice of nursing profession and in continuously conducting researches for the advancement
of nursing and improvement of quality care;
5. Manipulate laboratory equipment or any available materials properly in the conduct of varied scientific
investigations while observing safety measures in the laboratory so to be abreast to the different equipment
used in the medical field.
