THEOLOGY 1

1.- HOW CAN THE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE BE DEFINED.

R=literally teaching or instruction, it can be defined as the truths

fundamentals of the sacred scriptures arranged systematically. This study
is commonly referred to as theology. (Systematic Biblical Theology - Myer Pearlman).

2.- WHAT IS THEOLOGY?

R=It is a treaty or reasoned discourse regarding God, it can also be described

like the science that deals with our knowledge of God and the relationships of the creator
with man. It deals with all the things in which they relate to God and His
divine purposes. (Systematic biblical theology - Myer Pearlman).

3.- WHAT RELATIONSHIP EXISTS BETWEEN THEOLOGY AND RELIGION?

R=First we would have to define

Theology: it is knowledge about God.

Religion: it derives from a Latin word that means to bind; in other words, religion
it represents those activities that link man to God in a certain relationship.

So that religion is practice, while theology is knowledge.

Religion and theology must go hand in hand in the good experience.
balanced; but in practice they are sometimes separated, so that one can be
theologian without being truly religious, and on the other hand one can be truly
religious without possessing a systematic knowledge of the true doctrines. "if you know
these things, blessed are you if you do them" constitutes God's message to the
theologian. 'make every effort to present yourself to God approved, as a worker who does not
what to be ashamed of, who uses the word of truth well "is the message that God directs to the
spiritual man. (Systematic biblical theology – Myer Pearlman).

4.- WHAT DIFFERENCE EXISTS BETWEEN DOCTRINE AND DOGMA?

R=Doctrine: it is the revelation of God of a truth as it is found in the

sacred scriptures.

Dogma: it is the man's declaration regarding that truth, expressed in a creed.

The difference between these two is that one is taught as the Bible says and the other...
in the same way it teaches but in this case a rule or decree from an authority based on
to the truth. (Systematic biblical theology - Myer Pearlman).
5.- FOUR POINTS THAT SHOW THE VALUE OF THE DOCTRINE.

R=1.- doctrinal knowledge provides what is necessary for an authorized presentation

and the systematic of truth.

Doctrine will be necessary as long as man asks himself the following questions: what about
Where do I come from? What am I? Where am I going?

2.- doctrinal knowledge is essential for the complete development of Christian character.

Solid beliefs develop a strong character, and likewise well-defined beliefs.

they also form clear, well-defined convictions. Naturally, beliefs
The doctrines of a person do not constitute their religion, just as their thorn.
a dorsal is not their personality. But a strong backbone is a necessary part of
man, as well as a defined system of beliefs is an essential part of the
religion of man. It has been rightly said that "man does not have to carry the
spine in front of him, but he must have a spine, and straight, for it
the opposite will be a flexible believer, if not a jerk.

The Christian life is more important than simply knowing the doctrine, but there would be no
Christian experimental knowledge, if there were no Christian doctrine.

3.- doctrinal knowledge protects against error.

False doctrine generates false science that leads us to a blindness of erroneous ideas and to
ignorance. Likewise, the doctrines of the Bible expose the ideas
false with respect to God and His ways. Let no one think that a doctrinal error is a
insignificant impractical. No road to ruin has been more traveled than that of
the false doctrine. Error is armor over conscience, and a blindfold over the eyes.

4.- Doctrinal knowledge is a necessary part of the baggage of the Christian teacher.

Having a certain doctrine as a teacher implying themes and subthemes in

in an orderly and systematic manner. With the concept of educating the recipient with a broad idea,
deep, of each of the doctrines, so that it can be imparted in a centralized manner.
(Systematic Biblical Theology – Myer Pearlman).

6.- LIST THE FIVE BRANCHES OF THEOLOGY.

R=1.- Exegetical Theology

Greek word =extract; in this case the truth, seeks to establish the meaning
true of the scriptures. This branch of theology requires knowledge of the
original languages in which the holy scriptures were written.

2.- Historical Theology

Investigate the history of the development of doctrinal interpretation. It encompasses the study of the
ecclesiastical history or of the church.

3. - Dogmatic Theology

It constitutes the study of the fundamental issues of faith, as stated by the

creeds of the church.

4.- Biblical Theology

Follow the progress of truth through the various books of the Bible, and describe the
the way each of the writers presents the important doctrine. It also
I could establish what each book or section of the scriptures teaches regarding
doctrines related to God, to Christ, to the atonement and to salvation.

5.- Systematic theology

The biblical teachings regarding God and man are organized by themes,
according to a defined system. It is systematic theology when the material is
arranged according to a defined order, it is biblical when it is extracted from the
writings. (Systematic biblical theology - Myer Pearlman).

7.- MENTION THE ELEVEN TOPICS TO BE CONSIDERED.

R=1.- the doctrine of the sacred scriptures: this topic reveals to us that more than believing in
God for the things he created (which is important to know), teaches us that the scriptures
(the bible) reveals to us about God regarding forgiveness, the escape from sin and its
consequences, health and revelation.

2.- the doctrine of God: we establish the teachings of the scriptures regarding
the greatest of all realities: God, His nature and existence.

3.- the doctrine of angels: study of the highest creatures of God 'the angels',
this theme also covers bad angels, satan and demons.

4.- the doctrine of man: the biblical study concerning man, since all the
The truths of the scriptures are grouped around two focal points: God and man.
The study of God is immediately followed in importance by the study of man.

5.- the doctrine of sin: it studies the consequences and the effect that it causes in
the man. The sacred scriptures speak to us of his origin, nature, consequences and
cure.

6.- the doctrine of Christ: it is the study of the person and work of Christ, the Savior of
man.

7.- the doctrine of atonement: they are the facts that shed light on the meaning of the
supreme work of Christ for the benefit of man.
8.- the doctrine of salvation: it studies the needs of man regarding
expiation and thus turn it into a reality in the life of man. Facts and truths.

9.- the doctrine of divine healing: shows a way in which God communicates his
love, compassion, and interest in men.

10.- the doctrine of the Holy Spirit: it is the work turned into reality of Christ towards him
man, it deals with the nature and work of the Holy Spirit.

11.- the doctrine of the church: it is the organization of the needs of the disciples to
the purposes of worship, instruction, communion, and spreading the gospel. The new
The testament speaks to us about the nature and work of organization.

12.- the doctrine of last things: it is the study of what is going to happen (a
look to the future) of how everything will end, be it life, history, the world. (Theology
systematic theology –Myer Pearlman.

8.- BRIEFLY EXPLAIN WHY WE NEED THE SCRIPTURES,

USING THE OUTLINE OF THREE POINTS.

R=

A.- NEED FOR SCRIPTURES.

To avoid walking with doubts and exceptions, it is a guide authorized by God Himself.
where it reveals the truth.

Such revelation must be accepted: for the answer comes from heaven to earth.
Such revelation must be awaited: it is that which opens the eyes when the soul is
overwhelmed and reason does not work.
Such revelation would be expressed in written form: memory and tradition are not
of trust as it tends to be lost and err, but the written words always
they remain in the same state.

B.- THE INSPIRATION OF SCRIPTURES.

The Bible was inspired by God through men and women used by the power of
holy spirit empowering these to express the truth (2 Timothy 3:16)(2 Peter
1:21).

Divine and not merely human: the influence of the spirit of God on man not
of the character and wisdom of this.
Unique and uncommon: one can differentiate 'wine word of Jehovah' is established
a clear distinction. Many can be enlightened but not inspired by it
Holy Spirit.
Live and not mechanical: it is not a dictation, but in a certain sense, they are written words.
by the man of the result of his personality characteristics of this to
through the spirit of God.
Verbal, and not merely conceptual: you are inspired, enlightened, revealed.

C.- THE VERIFICATION OF THE WRITINGS.

They claim to be inspired: the men of the Old Testament expressed the phrase 'and
God said" and in the New Testament Christ declared that the spirit would bring to the
memory of everything that had been taught.
They have every appearance of being inspired: for it is the only book made by some
forty different men over a period of 1,600 years that encompasses a
variety of issues.
One feels that they are inspired: when you meet the author of this book and the
perfect testimony of the Holy Spirit.

They prove to be inspiring: because what you seek in her, you find, for she has
inspired by civilizations has transformed lives, has brought light, inspiration, and comfort to
millions of people. (Systematic biblical theology – Myer Pearlman).

9.- MENTION TWO VERSES THAT MENTION THAT THE SCRIPTURES ARE
INSPIRED

2 Timothy 3:16 "all scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for
to refute, to correct, to instruct in righteousness.
2 Peter 1:21 "for no prophecy was ever brought about by human will, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
systematic theology –Myer Pearlman.

10.- OF A DEFINITION OF INSPIRATION BASED ON THE STATEMENT OF 2

OF PETER 1:21.

R=it is not the will and inspiration and character of the man who spoke and wrote the
scriptures were more used by them through the holy spirit of god.

11.- WHAT EXISTING CONDITIONS IN THE CHURCH MOTIVATED THE

FORMULATION OF CREDOS.

R=due to the confrontation of erroneous and flawed viewpoints regarding

doctrines, and it was then forced to enclose them and protect them with definitions. From this
An exact and detailed definition process emerged the creeds. (Biblical Theology)
systematic – Myer Pearlman.

12.- PROVIDE FIVE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF INSPIRATION

Deeds.

R=1.- it is divine and not human (since it is not a consequence of the unique character of man if
not of the holy spirit).
2- receive truth through it.

3.- It is alive because it is God who speaks in man, God who speaks through the
man, God who speaks like a man, God who speaks for the man.

4.- because it is complete and it is affirmed to be the word of God.

5.- It is first revealed to itself when it takes place to be inspired (for example: the ten)
commandments were revealed and Moses received inspiration to record it in the
pentateuch).(Systematic biblical theology – Myer Pearlman).

13.-MENCIONE LAS DIFERENCIAS ENTRE LA INSPIRACION Y LA ILUMINACION

R=lighting allows degrees, inspiration does not.

Inspiration:

According to Pablo; it is a strong, conscious breath of God in man, enabling him.

to express the truth. (2 Timothy 3:16).

Pedro refers to inspiration; it was intermittent, for indeed the prophet could not
to prophesy at will, but was subject to the will of the Spirit. (2 Peter 1:21).

Lighting:

It is the force exerted by the Holy Spirit, which is common to all believers, and it
it facilitates understanding of divine truths.

It is an adequate explanation of the origin of the Bible (1 Corinthians 2:4)

Is it permanent or can it be (Proverbs 4:18) The anointing (is the illumination) that the
the believer has received from the Holy One remains in him, John tells us (1 John 2:20-27).
Systematic Biblical Theology - Myer Pearlman.

14.- EXPLAIN IN WHAT SENSE INSPIRATION IS VIVID AND NOT MERELY

MECHANICS.

R= because it was not a dictation made by god to give to men, but rather it
Holy Spirit gave such an anointing so that the scripture could be made and thus man would have.
a personal criterion but not erroneous.

15.- OF TWO GROUNDS TO AFFIRM THAT THE INSPIRATION OF THE

THE WRITINGS ARE COMPLETE AND NOT MERELY PARTIAL

R=1.- contains certain historical data.

2.- the doctrine finds support from biblical history. (Systematic biblical theology -
Myer Pearlman.
16.- MENTION THREE BIBLICAL QUOTES THAT PROVE GOD INSPIRED THE
WORDS AND THOUGHTS OF THE BIBLICAL WRITERS.

2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is inspired by God, and is useful for teaching,
to refute, to correct, to instruct in justice,

Hebrews 1:1 "God, having spoken many times and in many ways in the past
times to the parents by the prophets,
2 Peter 1:21 "For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

17.- ESTABLISH THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN REVELATION AND INSPIRATION.

R=by revelation we mean that act of God through which He reveals what He
man could not find for himself, by inspiration we want to indicate that the writer is
preserved from the error of writing that revelation.

Example: the ten commandments were revealed to Moses who received inspiration to
register them in the Pentateuch. (Inspiration does not always imply revelation). (Theology
systematic biblical – Myer Pearlman.

18.- ARE THERE WORDS NOT INSPIRED BY THE HOLY SCRIPTURES?

The Old Testament claims to have been written by special inspiration.

of God. The phrase 'and God said' or its equivalent is used more than two thousand times. In all
parts of the New Testament claim it is a broader and clearer revelation of God than
the proportion of the Old Testament, therefore, if the Old Testament is inspired,
it is also the new one. (Systematic Biblical Theology - Myer Pearlman).

19.- WHAT EVIDENCE IS THERE IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THAT THIS WAS
WRITTEN?
