Guidelines for Task 2: “It has to do with us: Local issues and possible solutions” 2025-I
The second oral presentation aims to put in practice what you have learned during the first and second
unit. This oral presentation is going to help you to develop your communicative skills in English. You
should assume this project as part of your language learning process, it is to say, your commitment and
responsibility are needed for succeeding in this task. This task is worth 20 points of the grade of your
final exam.
Procedure
1. Work individually or in pairs. You will have 10 minutes for the presentation (5 minutes for
each student if you work in pairs).
2. Choose one place in your community, university, hometown or territory and brainstorm ideas
to:
- Establish why the place you chose has to do with you. You will share your reflection and
thoughts in your oral presentation.
- Give a short location reference to get there.
- Determine the most outstanding features in the place chosen: factual information, landmarks,
landscapes, history, weather, why it is famous or meaningful for, activities to do and see in that
place, etc.
- Show the problems you identify in the place.
- Give a possible solution for one of them. Make sure the solutions you provide are related to
your major or field of study.
2.1. Make a plan to develop your presentation.
- Greetings (Hello everyone, Nice to see you again, etc.)
- Topic (I’m going to talk about..., My subject today is...)
- Agenda (My presentation is in three sections. Firstly, … Second,...).
- Then, write a composition based on this outline:
● Introduction: support your choice
● Body: information about the location, importance, activities, etc., problems and
possible solution
● Closure: summarize and share a personal reflection about the location.
2.2. When you prepare your presentation, remember that you need to include most of the
grammar and vocabulary topics covered in the class (Comparatives and superlatives, Intensifiers,
Modal verbs, There is / there are, Countable and Uncountable nouns, among others).
2.3. Visual aids and/or other graphic support are required here. You must use videos, slides,
cardboards, flashcards or any visual aid that helps you show your presentation successfully. Do not
include paragraphs in your presentation. Include images, pictures, maps, key words and phrases,
graphics, etc.
2.4. Schedule appointments with your teacher or the Red CAAL monitors to check some
concerns about your presentation.
3. Practice in front of a mirror, measure time and observe your body language. Practice with
someone else, record what you're going to say, listen to the recording and improve your presentation.
4. Perform your presentation. Be ready on the day of your presentation. Remember that this is an
oral presentation, not a reading aloud exercise. Reading will affect your grade negatively (see the
criteria and indicators for “Task completion, content, and organization” in the Evaluation rubric on the
next page). Besides, take into account that if you are not present the day and moment you are called,
you will not have a second chance to perform the task.
