STORY OF HERCULES
Hercules (Heracles in Greek mythology) is a legendary demigod hero, famed
for his incredible strength and adventurous life filled with trials and heroic
feats. He was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Alcmene, a mortal
woman. Hera, Zeus's wife, was jealous and hostile towards Hercules
throughout his life, causing him many hardships, including a madness-
induced act in which he tragically killed his own wife and children.
To atone for this, Hercules sought purification from the Oracle of Delphi and
was commanded to serve King Eurystheus for twelve years. During this time,
he was given twelve nearly impossible tasks known as the Twelve Labors.
These included slaying the Nemean lion, capturing the three-headed dog
Cerberus from the Underworld, retrieving the golden apples from the garden
of the Hesperides, and many others. Completing these labors would cleanse
him of his sins and grant him immortality.
Hercules's life story includes many other adventures and battles that further
demonstrate his strength, courage, and perseverance. Despite Hera's
continued animosity, he eventually achieved godhood after his death, being
taken to Mount Olympus, where he joined the gods as an immortal.
The story of Hercules is rich and multifaceted, blending themes of human
weakness, divine intervention, suffering, redemption, and ultimate
transcendence
