two, three and six decades beyond the last known decade, by using Geometric Mean Method.

b) 4. During a recuperation test , the water level in an open well was depressed by pumping by 3m
and is recuperated by an amount of 1.7m in 60 minutes.

a) Determine the yield from a well of 3m dimeter under a depression head of 3.5 m.
b) Also determine the diameter of the well to yield 15 litres/sec under a depression head
of 3m.
c) The maximum daily demand at a water purification plant has been estimated as 16 million litres
per day Design the dimension of a suitable sedimentation tank fitted with mechanical sludge
removal arrangements for the raw water supplies, assuming a detention period of 8 hours of
flow as 20 cm per minute.
