Lesson Proper:
TOPIC: Adding and Subtracting Monomials(Week 4 - Wednesday)
Problem: (12ab) + (10ba)
Activity 8: Combine Me!
Directions: Solve the monomials given below. Steps on adding monomials
1. If necessary, arrange the literal coefficients. (12ab) + (10ab)
1. 2x + 4x 4. 4x 2 + 6y2
2. Add numerical coefficients using integer rule. (12) + (10) = 22
3. Bring down the literal coefficients with same terms. Answer = 22ab
4. The monomials cannot be added if the terms are not identical (2cd) + (3ef)
Problem: (9yx) + (6xy)
2. (-5x) + (-6x) 5. (-3xy) + (8xy)
Steps on subtracting monomials
1. If necessary, arrange the literal coefficients. (9xy) - (6xy)
2. Subtract numerical coefficients using integer rule. (9) - (6) = 3
3. Bring down the literal coefficients with same terms. Answer = 3xy
4. The monomials cannot be added if the terms are not identical (2cd) - (3ef)
3. (-8x) + (10x) 6. (x) + (-x 2)
