Small Talk & Daily Conversation


Small talk is light, casual conversation used in daily interactions. It helps people feel comfortable and
build connections. In contrast, daily conversation can be deeper and more meaningful, involving more
personal or detailed discussions.

1. What is Small Talk?


Small talk is a short, friendly conversation about neutral and simple topics. It is used to:
✅Start a conversation
✅Fill silence in social situations
✅Make interactions feel friendly
🔹Example situations:
 Talking to a colleague before a meeting
 Chatting with a customer in a café
 Meeting someone new at an event

2. Common Small Talk Topics


Here are safe and common topics for small talk:
A. Weather 🌤
 "It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?"
 "Looks like it might rain later."
B. Work & Business 💼
 "How’s work going?"
 "What do you do for a living?"
C. Hobbies & Interests 🎨
 "Do you like reading?"
 "What do you do in your free time?"
D. Travel ✈️
 "Have you traveled anywhere recently?"

3. How to Make Small Talk Interesting


Use these strategies to keep small talk engaging:
✅ Show interest → "Oh, really? That sounds exciting!"
✅ Ask follow-up questions → "How did you get into that hobby?"
✅ Use positive body language → Smile and make eye contact

5. How to End a Conversation Politely


When you need to finish a conversation, be polite and natural.
