Natete Parish,

Lubaga Division,Kampala
1st May, 2025

The Director Engineering and Technical Services,

Kampala Capital City Authority
Attn: Eng. Justus Akankwasa

Dear Sir,

RE: REQUEST TO REINSTATE THE CONCRETE SLAB AND INSTALL

GUARDRAILS/HANDRAILS ALONG THE OUTFLOW CHANNEL AT NATETE
BOX CULVERT OPPOSITE CENTENARY BANK

We wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Kampala Capital City Authority for listening to
our outcry prioritizing the construction of the bridge and the channel section which was a
drainage bottleneck at Natete Centenary Section. The previously existing 900mm dia culverts
were too small to handle the runoff but at least we have the confidence that the box culvert will
manage the water and control the flooding in the area.

However, there are concerns that are greatly affecting us the residents in the area and we request
you to handle them with urgent attention as we have noticed that the contractor is in final stages
of the project and will soon be leaving site.

i) Reinstating the Pedestrian Slab along the Channel on the lower section
Prior to commencement of works, there was a pedestrian slab that had been constructed
through a combined effort from us the landlords. We had also constructed a retaining
wall to protect the channel. On a sad note, the contractor is going without constructing
our slab yet we were promised that the slab will be reinstated. We have been
cooperative from day one as we were giving in our land for the good of the
community and its our prayer that the slab that was existing be reinstated with
handrails along it to prevent any form of accidents as the channel has now become
too much deeper than as it was before. We also request that handrails be installed
along the entire channel downstream.

ii) Installation of protective wall or guardrail along the outflow channel

The newly constructed channel is close to 10feet deep and its very wide which makes it
an accident prone zone. We gave in our land and the compounds have become very
narrow hence rendering our tenants children a very high risk falling in the channel.
iii) Covering the inflow and outflow channel
The channels to and from the box culvert are very wide and deeper, hence risky for the
public. We request that the hand rails be installed along entire channel to avoid the
channel being a death trap.

iv) Extending the Outflow channel to connect

We request that channel at the outflow be extended to reach the main channel in order to
completely avert the flooding.

v) Constructing the road

The road between the box culvert and the Natete lights is all full of potholes and its our
prayer that you please work on it in order to uplift our business

The purpose of this letter is therefore to request you to attend to our issues that have been
highlighted above.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,
