Pre-requisite: Knowledge of vector algebra, functions, limits, differentiation and integration of
functions.
Course Objective:
This course aims at providing adequate exposure to the theory and applications of Calculus. This
course will help the students achieve sound understanding of the concepts of calculus, develop
problem solving skills and apply the concepts and techniques of calculus to solve problems within
Engineering domain. This course will equip the students with intermediate to advanced level
concepts and aligned tools to help them tackle advanced mathematics and related applications.
Course Outcomes:
After completion of the course, students will be able to-
1. Understand the fundamental concepts of differential calculus for functions of one variable,
including limits, derivatives, Mean Value Theorems, Taylor and Maclaurin series, and
LHospital’s rule. (K2)
2. Solve problems involving functions of several variables using partial differentiation, Taylor
series expansion, and techniques for finding maxima and minima, including Lagrange’s
method of undetermined multipliers. (K3)
3. Use Beta and Gamma functions to solve problems in single-variable calculus. (K2)
4. Compute and interpret double and triple integrals, including change of variables and
coordinate transformations, and apply them to determine areas and volumes. (K3)
5. Examine vector functions using gradient, divergence, curl, and scalar potential and apply
fundamental vector calculus theorems such as Green’s, Stokes’, and Gauss’ theorems to
evaluate integrals. (K3)
6. Integrate concepts from differential, integral, and vector calculus to formulate and solve real-
world problems in physics, engineering, and applied sciences. (K3)
