SUBJECT: Observance of Diabetes Awareness Week 2025

The Department of Health (DOH) is mandated to protect and promote the health of all
Filipinos. In accordance with Proclamation No. 194, s. 2003 declaring the fourth week of
July as Diabetes Awareness Week, and in support of Republic Act 11223 (Universal Health
Care Act), all offices are enjoined to actively participate in the observance in July. Diabetes
affects over 4 million Filipinos and is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart
attacks, and lower limb amputations. This year's theme, “Komunidad Patatagin, Hamon ng
Diabetes Harapin!” emphasizes the importance of
informed choices and collective action in
addressing the challenges posed by the disease, emphasizes our collective responsibility in
diabetes management and prevention.
In this regard, all offices and units are enjoined to support and participate in the diabetes
awareness campaign through the conduct of
various promotional activities (e.g., community
advocacy events, seminars, fora, lectures, and development and dissemination of
information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, among others). Likewise, the
DOH encourages everyone to actively take part in this campaign by helping in the
dissemination of the communication materials related to Diabetes Awareness Week. The
