INTRODUCTION
For our 5th semester field work we selected Mawbri village located in
Khatarshnong Laitkroh block East Khasi Hills district Meghalaya. 793015. with
a population of 144 and 25 households. We carried out our field work from 16 th
August 2024 – 2nd November 2024. For this semester we focused in building a
good and meaningful relationship with the community, identifying the areas we
can intervene or assist in\solving their issues or problems, we performed
activities with the locals to build rapport and understand their livelihood and
lifestyle to know about their needs and problems that we can assist in problems
that is in our capacity and apply our theory in the field to improve our skills
working in a community settings.
OBJECTIVE
 Building good and meaningful relationship with the community –
To develop mutual trust, understanding, communication and to encourage
participation in activities.
 Observe their lifestyle and livelihood – Understand how they live day to
day they live as a community and how to operate as a community.
 Understand community needs- Identify the areas we can intervene or
assist in.
 Gathering qualitative data- through observation, interviews, survey, etc.
gain in-depth understanding of community dynamics, behaviours, values
and norms.
 Evaluating the effectiveness of existing programs, services, or policies
within the community.
 Developing solutions – Using the data to design, plan, strategies and
intervene in problems that they may face.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
 First-hand experience on working in community setting and
understanding the rural way of livelihood and lifestyle.
 The community having low population of 144 and only 25 households
have a very close relationship with one another and always take decision
as a whole there is rarely any disagreement among one another.
 The community are well educated and aware even if all are not literate
low rate of common problems like alcoholism, no drug abuse, and low
teenage pregnancy, no domestic abuse or much kind of dispute among
fellow community members.
 The main source of income are producing Charcoal through burning
wood.
 Agriculture is simply practiced to feed their own family.
 Major Problems of the community lack of healthcare, transport of person
and goods as it is a 45min trek to the nearest village i.e. Mawmihthied.
 There is no ICDS or ANGANWADI but there are two ASHA workers.
 If someone gets ill in the village one has to travel to Sohra or Shillong
for medical care
 School are available up to only lower primary for further studies students
go to mawmihthied for their high studies or if possible to shillong.
 The youths in village help in agriculture or work for the church.
THEORETICAL APPLICATIONS

 Use of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tool of Transect walk to


identify the surroundings and resources of the village
 Using tools such as survey, interview, observation and communication to
gather data and information to get a better understanding the livelihood
and lifestyle of the community
 Building Rapport using activities like home visit, games with children,
skit and many more.
 Process of community organisation of 1) Identifying the problem 2)
Gathering fact and data 3) Action plan and will continue forward.
 Used the skills of group thinking, maintaining relationships with
individuals and groups and deciding the programs based on the
community’s needs.
CONCLUSION

With the completion of the survey and identifying process we can focus of
action plan strategies it and implement in for the future we look intervene in the
field of healthcare with the medical camp, skill training and also start with the
proposal for the rope way which can be continued even after our graduation as it
shows a long term commitment with the community.
This Semester allowed us to build a relationship and trust with the community,
understand their lifestyle, livelihood and their needs and would could consider it
good progress.
