This coursework's ability to relate what we've learned in class to real-world situations was
among its most beneficial features. Before our fieldwork, ideas like "urbanization," "pollution,"
and "environmental quality" seemed like separate subjects, but I now see how they are
related. For instance, I measured air and noise pollution myself and saw how traffic directly
lowers environmental quality, despite what I had learned in geography classes about how
urbanization can increase traffic. I also recalled the lessons we learned about sustainable
development and the need for cities to strike a balance between environmental health and
economic growth. Our results, which showed that noisy environments and poorer air quality
are caused by busy roads, made me realize how crucial sustainable transportation systems
are. This clarified for me the importance of issues like green spaces, public transportation,
and urban sprawl. They share the common goal of creating a livable city and are not merely
disparate concepts. I also connected it to climate change. I was reminded of Singapore's
carbon emissions and our role in global warming by the sheer number of cars on the road. I
learned from the coursework that minor local issues, such as the number of cars on a given
street, can have a significant impact on the environment. Additionally, the experience
increased my sense of geography's relevance to my future. I can see how a degree in
