The structure has been designed to fulfil the purpose of a meditation room in
an educational institution for the students. The brief indicated that the
design In the shape of a pavilion should accommodate 6 people in an
interactive space. The structure uses pre-used, discarded materials i.e.,
waste bamboo from construction site, discarded chick blinds. It
provides better structural support because of the multiple anchor points in
the midrib and connection of substructures. The structure is temporary
structure which has a lifespan of minimum 1.5 t o 2 years and can be de-
constructed whenever required. Overall, the structure provides an
integrity and invokes curiosity among the occupants and passersby.

4.1 CONCEPT-
The design proposal is derived from the source of meditation Gautam Buddha.
As of his ideology tree is an integral part of human life and contributes t o a
healthier environment for the biological [Link] accordance with Gautam
Buddha's teachings and with inspiration from the form of leaves, our meditation
center is shaped like an open pavilion constructed entirely of bamboo.
With bamboo columns and arches that perfectly mirror the delicate and
organic patterns seen in leaves, the design eloquently reflects the creative
splendor of nature. This outdoor retreat promotes meditation and offers the
opportunity to indulge in the local natural beauties while integrating nature.
Because there are no walls to obstruct the view, the pavilion provides a serene
environment for reflection and mindfulness that is strongly grounded in the
knowledge of Buddha and the essence of leaves.
06
4.2 ARCHITECTURAL BENEFITS OF THE FORM-
l. Better structural support because of multiple anchor points in the midrib and
connection of the substructures.
2. When compared t o constrained boxy constructions, the open walls
decrease the exposed wall surface area, which further serves to increase the
light and wind intake.
3. The stomata of a leaf served as inspiration for the skylights employed in the
construction. They increase the amount of natural lighting in the building's
interior, minimizing the need for artificial lighting and enabling the building to
operate on its own. This reduces the carbon foot-print of the building.
[Link] t he sun's rays serve as the main source of energy for leaves, those entering
the building through skylights convey a positive energy into the lives of those
who reside there.

4.4 LANDSCAPING
A meditation center pavilion's landscaping is crucial
for establishing a calm and spiritually enlightening
atmosphere. It encourages peace, seclusion, and a
sense of connection to nature-all of which are
essential for successful meditation. The spiritual
experience of practitioners in the pavilion is enriched
by thoughtful landscaping that incorporates symbolic
aspects.
With their weeping branches, willow trees in
the landscape of a meditation center provide
calm and isolation, forming tranquil alcoves. A
soothing atmosphere is created by the rustling
leaves. Willows improve the meditation
experience by creating inner serenity and a
connection to nature. They also symbolize
adaptability and tenacity.
Lavender flowers from Dakota
Mock Vervain's plant sway gracefully in the
breeze in the contemplative center pavilion,
signifying strength and simplicity. This
indigenous plant, which coexists with the local
species and grows well in arid environments,
helps people meditate in harmony with
nature. Its presence gives a serene oasis
where time slows.

5.3 CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES
STRUCTURE :-
• The site was demarcated as per the rectangular demarcation system with
the help of measuring tapes
• Further pits for foundation were excavated 2ft deep manually with the
help of shovel for the foundation laying.
• The foundation was laid with the help of pre casted concrete ( M20 )
blocks with a void left for the angular bamboo which needed to be
placed later.
• Bamboos were cut as per design and placed in the concrete blocks
which was already fixed in the pit as per design.
• The pit was backfilled with the earlier excavated soil and rammed with
t he help of a manual earth rammer and regular watering.
• The roofing support was later constructed using bamboo sections fixed on
rect angular 4" grid method with the help of Fevicol and binding wires .
ROOFING :-
• The roof is construct in an abstract form using partial roofing methods.
• The southern region of the roof and walls are covered with a bamboo
mat with dimensions of 5' X 10' per piece.
• The mats were further fixed with binding wires to the roofing support
bamboo sections.
INTERIOR :-
• Interior elements like the bamboo pendants were made utilizing the
septum of the bamboo, the sections were cut such that each piece
cont ains a septum, and a hole was pierced into the septum, through
which jute strands were pulled to obtain a pendant like structure.
• The jute boards were made using cut pieces of 6 MM ply boards as the
base and jute ropes were pasted in a sculptural form.
