RF Generator Internal Fault
Power Amplifier Failure: The power transistors or final stage amplifier modules may have
degraded or failed.
Driver Stage Issue: If the driver circuit feeding the final amplifier is faulty, it may not be
delivering enough power.
Power Supply Problem: The internal power supply might not be providing enough
voltage/current to the RF stages.
Cooling System Failure: If the generator is overheating due to a failed fan or blocked airflow, it
may throttle output or shut down partially.
Impedance or Load Mismatch
Torch Misalignment or Fault: A bad connection or improper load at the ICP torch can result in
reflected power, lowering generator output to protect itself.
Matching Network Issue: The automatic or manual matching network between the generator
and plasma torch may not be tuned properly, or its components (capacitors/coils) might be
damaged.
High Reflected Power: Some generators reduce power output if they detect high VSWR (voltage
standing wave ratio) to prevent damage.
Check reflected power on the generator display—if it's high, it's likely a mismatch issue.
Inspect RF cable and connectors between generator and torch for signs of damage or loose
connections.
Ensure coolant flow and fan operation are normal—overheating can trigger protective
shutdowns.
Try a different torch or dummy load if available, to isolate whether the problem is with the
load or generator.
