TRIGONOMETRY

1. Two given points P and Q which are opposite sides of a tower are 30m apart, P, Q and the
foot of the tower are in the same straight line. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower
from P and Q are 35° and 48° respectively. Find, correct to one decimal place, the height
of the tower.
2. The angle of elevation of the top of a flagpole is 42° from a point S which is 180 meters
from the foot B of the flagpole. T is a point on the same horizontal line BP such that BT is
45 meters. Calculate, correct to one decimal place, the angle of elevation of the flagpole
from T.

c. If the boat moves further away to a new position P and the initial angle of depression
by 5, calculate the distance moved by the boat from its initial position.
6. From two points A and B 15m apart an on the same horizontal line as the foot of a tower,
the angles of elevation are 35° and 45° respectively. If A and B are on the same side of the
tower,

b. Find, correct to the nearest meter, the height of the tower.

PERIMETER, AREA AND VOLUME

1) A rectangle is (𝑥 + 3)𝑐𝑚 long and 𝑦 𝑐𝑚 wide. The perimeter of the rectangle is 24cm and
the area is 27𝑐𝑚2 .

Show that;

i) 𝑦 = 9 − 𝑥
ii) 𝑥2 − 6𝑥 = 0
iii) Find the length and width of the rectangle.
2) The perimeter of a square and a rectangle is the same. The width of the rectangle is 6cm and
its area is 16𝑐𝑚2 less than the area of the square. Find the area of the square.
3) The length of the diagonals of a rhombus are 6cm and 9cm respectively. Find correct to three
significant figures the
a) Perimeter the rhombus
b) Area of the rhombus
4) The total surface area of a closed circular cylinder of radius 5.5cm is 1520𝑐𝑚2 . Calculate the

5) A swimming pool in the shape of a cuboid has a length of 10m, a width of 5m and a depth of
2m. If the pool is filled with water, how much water does it hold?
6) A water reservoir in the form of a cone mounted on a hemisphere is built such that the plane
face of the hemisphere fits exactly to the base of the cone is 6 times the radius of its base.
a) Illustrate this information in a diagram.
b) If the volume of the reservoir is 33313𝜋𝑚3 , calculate, correct to the nearest whole number,
the;
i) Volume of the hemisphere;
ii) Total surface area of the reservoir.

score of the girls is 37and that of the whole class is 39, calculate;

(b) In a class test, Ali, Abi and Asif scored 27, 34 and x marks respectively. Expressing
the marks in percentages, Ali scored 54%, Abi scored Y% and Asif scored Z%. if the
mean for the three marks is 60%. Calculate the X, Y and Z.
