T he f o r e g o in g adopted by the writer
m otto,
in teaching and practicing this Hebrew system
of numerology, he received from a beautiful
character when he was quite young. The lady
who gave him this advice is no longer physically
present, but the impression her timely advice
made has, until now, kept him in the middle of
the road. This saying conveys the idea that there
is a right way and a wrong way in studying
any subject. We need to digest our mental and
spiritual food as we do the food we take into
our mouths. Fanaticism is the greatest enemy
to truth.
Not until we find an equilibrium in life are
we ready to advance in understanding the mean
ing of life, for the student must relieve himself
of preconceived ideas, carelessness of investi
gation, the taking of hasty conclusions and self-
conceit before he is in a position to learn. He
vi PREFACE
needs to realize the vastness of wisdom and what
little any one person knows in comparison with
it.
When we sometimes find sincere students of
Truth in schools of thought that are not thor
oughly sound it simply means that up to the
present they have found something that appeals
to their reason, but when the real motive under
lying the teaching is detected by them they will
no longer identify themselves with it. Neverthe
less, they will not throw away the truth they
have learned here with the falsehood but they
will retain the good and credit the source from
whom they receive it.
What is the Hebrew Quaballah ? It is, accord
ing to the Hebrews, a received revelation from
God. The numerology of the Quaballah is but
one of its subjects. What is numerology? I agree
with the definition of Walter B. Gibson who said,
“ T h e science o f num erology is the practical appli
cation o f the fu n dam en tal law s o f m ath em atics to the
m aterial existence o f m an .”
From the beginning my policy has been to
teach and practice this science independently
of the religious field and therefore I founded the
Studio of Psychoanalysis by Numbers.

THE SUCCESS STORY
OF NELSON-HALL
AND WHAT IT CAN MEAN TO YOU
N elson-H all C ompany performs what is probably the
most interesting educational work in America. Let me tell
you a little bit about it . . . and let me tell you, also, how
you might benefit by fitting yourself into this self-instruc
tion program.
This unusual organization has helped many thousands.
In helping these countless thousands get ahead we have
helped America. To what extent, no one can say . . . but
the help has been substantial.
What and who is Nelson-Hall? If this is your first con
tact with us I can answer your questions better by making
plain, at the start, just what we are not.
Way back in 1909 this concern was established. But the
streamlined educational methods we are using now are
comparatively recent developments, based on many years
experience. Although it is something new in America,
already more than 200,000 students have used our unique
service.

I should make it very plain that we are not a corre

think of when they use the term “publishers and book
sellers.”
Nelson-Hall is a world-renowned educational institution
specializing in low-priced self-instruction study materials on
all subjects. We publish many famous home-study courses.
And we deal in practical educational tides of other pub
lishers and schools . . . on subjects ranging from Account
ing right through the alphabet to Mechanics and on to
Xylophone Playing and Zoology.
All these different study items have at least one thing in
common: they are knowledge-with-an-aim . . . for imme
diate practical use—to teach you how to get something
done. And, as far as possible, everything is 100% self-
instructing. By this I mean the printed instructions are
complete in themselves. It is not necessary that you seek
further explanations by writing to a correspondence school
or calling in person on an instructor. This independence
develops your initiative and originality.

With this book you should have received a copy of our
new Success-Catalog. (Simply send me your name and
address if you need another copy. It’s free.) In this copy
righted vocational guidance manual thousands of valuable
courses and other educational items are brought to your
attention, classified and described. Much of this excellent
home-study material is available only from Nelson-Hall.
Maintaining a well-rounded list of authoritative items
suitable for our use requires constant search. We insist on
good, clear, accurate, logical texts . . . texts designed for
self-instruction. Hundreds of sources keep us informed.
The items approved are then gathered together in our
stockrooms for listing in our Success-Catalog . . . which is
used in every English-speaking community in the world.
THE SUCCESS STORY OF NELSON-HALL xi
Some of the educational items selected are from the bet
ter correspondence schools, some are carefully chosen from
the lists of highgrade trade publishers, both American and
British. When existing material on any subject does not
meet our standards we assign an expert the task of making
a course according to our specifications which we will then
publish under the Nelson-Hall imprint.
L E T U S H E L P YOU BE SU C C E SSF U L
We have made it very easy for customer-students to deal
with us. If you place an order, for instance, from our Suc
cess-Catalog or any of our special lists you will get the
material, in most cases, by return mail. We ship all the
printed matter in one package . . . and you then have the
use of our home-study facilities, as explained in the Suc
cess-Catalog. You get, therefore, two things when you
order: first, the printed matter; second, the services. The
one price you pay is complete and covers everything.
While we are not a bookstore, ordering from us is just
as simple as buying a book. We give you a lot more,
that’s all.
You see, Nelson-Hall regards books, manuals, folios,
booklets, courses, bulletins, etc., just convenient vehicles for
carrying knowledge economically. We sell the information
they contain—we do not think of the paper and ink as
“merchandise.” If you are searching for practical informa
tion, for instruction of the self-study kind, for ideas, intelli
gence, advice . . . we specialize in this and can very likely
furnish what you need.
Boiled down, what Nelson-Hall offers is SU CCESS. This
frequently means making a lot of money. (“There are few
ways in which a man can be more innocently employed
than in getting money.”—S amuel J ohnson.) It also
means success in taking photographs, writing beautiful
poetry, developing a good memory, mastering ju jitsu.
Life is broad and there are many ways of being successful.

In what other ways do we help the self-reliant individual?
Perhaps the most important thing he gets from Nelson-Hall
is the inspiration-to-study. This is genuine. It is as typically
American as the success story of Benjamin Franklin; it is
deep faith in our free way of life; it is sincere belief in
opportunity; it is the conviction that Man is master of his
fate and captain of his soul.
This optimism looks upward but has both feet on the
ground. The student gets it by indirection . . . he meets it
running through all our catalogs, circulars, bulletins, per
sonal correspondence . . . he finds it in the courses we
furnish.
Adult students deal with us voluntarily and are goaded
for their own good. They want it this way. We furnish the
stimulus that keeps them going . . . moving forward . . . no
matter what!

Helpful vocational advice is available to anyone who
makes use of our services. Generally, the people who write
us for self-instruction educational material are divided into
four main groups. (Just as a matter of curiosity, in which
group do you belong?)
Group 1. These men and women have jobs they like
and in which they see a future. They are ambitious to get
on. Nelson-Hall furnishes authoritative self-study materi
als to help them move ahead faster than might otherwise
be possible.
Group 2. In this group are those who feel they are in
blind-alley jobs and want to break away and do something
about it. We know about lines of work with a future . . .
and can furnish sound educational texts for quick training.
THE SUCCESS STORY OF NELSON-HALL xiii
But sometimes it is the man himself who is blind to the
opportunities all around him waiting to be grasped. Our
counsel here is mature and reliable.
Group 3. The beginner who has not yet chosen a field
needs up-to-date vocational advice and seasoned judgment.
Our Success-Catalog gives a bird’s-eye view of the broad
field of occupations. And our recommendations are im
partial because we have courses on nearly every trade and
profession. Any suggestions we might make are based on
the young man’s inclinations, experience, background and
opportunities.
Group 4. In this last group are those who are satisfied
they are getting ahead fast enough in a line of work they
like. We take care of their avocations. They want informa
tion and instruction on gardening, ju jitsu, locksmithing,
psychology, foreign languages, chess, astrology and a thou
sand and one other subjects. They also read other serious
works on biography, music, art and religion. All this is
reading-with-a-purpose. We do not furnish reading matter
designed to kill time.

Nelson-Hall’s educational program is enormously success
ful. N o doubt this unusual success is the result of being on
firm ground. The psychological principle upon which we
operate is this: What you are taught is as nothing com
pared with what you learn. Too many educators devote all
their efforts to leading the horse to water, so to speak . . .
Nelson-Hall accomplishes more because we start by assum
ing the student is willing and ready to learn . . . and we
can therefore devote all our efforts to teaching him exactly
what he wants to know . . . rather than merely preparing
him to learn.
What you learn by yourself becomes part of you. It is
XIV NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
yours. You are proud of it. And, most important, you use
what you learn by yourself.
W H A T E L S E C A N W E D O FO R YO U ?
For Young Minds we present one of the most compre
hensive lists of educational material in the world. “Youths”
of all ages can get the texts they want from Nelson-Hall. In
this connection it is interesting to remember that a “youth”
is anyone with a receptive mind. It is as true today as when
Aeschylus said it 490 В. C .: “Learning is ever young, even
in old age.”
Please let me know if we can help you in your search
for new and useful knowledge. We enjoy meeting thirsty,
elastic, active minds.

The Meaning of Numbers
D r m acgregor m ath ers (Comte de Glenstrae)
translated the Hebrew Quaballah of Numbers
into English. And the system taught by the writer
is based on his translation. Gratitude is here
expressed for the splendid contributions to
numerology given by all before me and for the
benefits derived therefrom.
According to the sages the world came into
being through “ sound, harmony, vibration and
the spoken word.”
Numbers are ancient. Numerology goes back
to prehistoric days, for the ancients knew about
it long before the pyramids were built. The
mystic Quaballah deals with more than numer
ology which is but one of its subjects. The mean
ing of “ Quaballah” is “ received from God,”
and this teaching has been referred to as “ the
inner teaching of the Mosaic Law.” Tradition
says that God taught it to a school of angels, who
in turn taught it to Adam and Noah.

4 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Numbers are, strictly speaking, neither lucky
nor unlucky for they depend entirely on ex
pression of harmony that the person has with
vibrations affecting them. This science goes far
and it has been proven to me that it is as true
with this subject as with any other occult study,
“ When the student is ready the master is wait
ing.” We live in a universe of vibrations and
every person coming into this world has a vi
bration peculiar to the individual that is distinct
from others, effecting a purpose in his coming—a
place in the divine scheme that he or she alone
can occupy.
So much importance is placed on the vibrations
belonging to the name, we are told it has been
an old custom of the Jews to change the name
of persons at the point of death so as to effect
better conditions and aid the sufferer on the road
to recovery, the philosophy teaching that in
order to annul destiny’s evil decree, prayer,
charity, change of name and change of actions
are necessary.
Lawyers, clergymen and salesmen who must
cater to the general public will find this instruc
tion invaluable, a big and important improve
ment over ordinary business psychology. Em-
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 5
ployment managers will find it an aid in setting
dates for appointments and in naming locations
of assignment. By the natural law revealed in
this system we can determine the past, the
present and the future. We can also learn by this
system in what locality or community we vibrate
best and with whom we should or should not
associate both for our own good and for the wel
fare of others as well. We all have something we
came into this world to do.
To know the meaning of numbers is a big step
in numerology; therefore it is advisable to fa
miliarize oneself with this meaning before further
study. Yet tools are of little value unless one
learns how to apply them; therefore the following
English translation of the alphabet is given as an
aid in this direction:

6 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Number 1 and the Octaves of 1
1 Creative, strongly individual, the beginning,
positive, definite in views, inventive, determined,
obstinate, ambitious, dislikes restraint.
10 Honor, faith, self-confidence; name will be known
for good or evil, according to one’s desires; plans
likely carried out.
19 Fortunate and extremely favorable; promises
happiness, success, esteem and honor and success
in planning for the future.
28 Full of contradictions; a person of great promise
and possibilities likely to see all taken away un
less he carefully provides for the future; loss of
money through law; loss through trust in others;
opposition and competition in trade; likelihood
of having to begin life’s road over and over again.
Not fortunate for future events.
37 Good and fortunate friendships in love and in
combinations connected with the opposite sex;
also a good number for partnerships of all kinds;
in connection with the future it is most fortu
nate.
46 Considered sometimes a great inventor; a psy
chic, scientist, holder of high ideals; often acquires
money only to lose it and has to start all over
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 7
again when ideals lead to impractical heights.
The ambitions of people affected by this number
must be checked, or rather held in check, to have
steady progress.
55 A leader; dominating; frequently follows reli
gious or ethical lines; is honest and has a keen
brain; a pioneer in bringing light to others with
inspiration and enthusiasm.
64 Professional work is better for 64 than is com
mercial; generally drawn to literary pursuits;
sees what others pass by; able to make the most of
his time and opportunities; distinctly individual
and frequently remains unmarried.
73 The meaning of this number is “ Wisdom.”
8 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Number 2 and the Octaves of 2
2 Gentle by nature, imaginative, artistic and ro
mantic; also inventive, but not so forceful in
carrying out ideas as Number 1; qualities more
on the mental than on the physical plane; seldom
as strong physically as Number 1; 2 is restless
and unsettled; lack of continuity in plans and
ideas; lack of self-confidence; oversensitive; is
easily despondent; melancholy if not in happy
surroundings.
11 Warns against hidden dangers, trial and treach
ery from others; great difficulties to contend
with.
20 Called “ the awakening” ; also “ the judgment” ;
the awakening of new plans, new purposes, new
ambitions, the call to action for some great pur
pose, cause or duty; not a material number;
doubtful as far as worldly success is concerned.
As for the future there is indication of delays,
hindrances to plans and obstacles which can only
be conquered through the spiritual development
of man’s nature.
29 Denotes uncertainties, treachery and deception
of others; foreshadows trials, tribulation and
unexpected dangers; unreliable friends; grief and
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS
deception caused by members of the opposite sex;
warning for future events.
38 Sometimes brings quarrels, misunderstandings
and separations. Very powerful spiritually.
Where there is harmony it increases it, but where
there is discord it brings lies, deceit and false
hood. At best its power is considered unstable
and therefore should be watched especially when
found in connection with future events. 38 affects
the nerves and should always be met in a positive
spirit.
47 Considered as unstable as 2, 11, 20, 29 and 38;
47 brings possible danger from water. A person
affected by 47 is agreeable and tactful, discrimi
nating and co-operative. This person can handle
money, statistics, and makes a good banker. But
in connection with the future a person with 47
must consider it a danger sign to “ stop, look and
listen.”
56 This number dominates and inspires others; it
gains fortune and distinction but may outdo his
worthy deeds and resort to unworthy ambitions.
56 is very nervous, mentally restless and must
learn to control the nerves.
65 This number is considered “ holy.” It is said to
give powerful patrons and a happy marriage, but
it is also a number of hurts and dangers.
10 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Number 3 and the Octaves of 3
3 Ambitious; very independent and tolerates no
restraint; proud and never under compliment to
others; dictatorial and lays down the law, which
brings many enemies; never satisfied in sub
ordinate position and desires authority over
others; excellent in giving orders and bringing
discipline; obeys others readily but insists on
others doing likewise; extremely conscientious in
carrying out duties; often rises to highest posi
tions of authority, especially in the government,
the army and navy; also in life generally.
12 Expresses the desire to make atonement; man’s
lower nature must be sacrificed to the Higher
Power; a number of “ suffering and anxiety” ;
called “ the victim” ; generally foreshadows one
being sacrificed for the plans or intrigues of others.
21 Denotes elevation in life and general success; vic
tory after a long fight; the number of artists and
musicians; expresses artistic power, poetry, liter
ature, success; 21 in the destiny or birth path
makes one artistic in landscape gardening and
other gardening, interior decorating and study of
plants as the basis of perfumes or in the artistic
preparation and serving of foods; 21 is rather
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 11
happy-go-lucky, easy-come-easy-go; concrete
things seem to slip away. 21 means attainment,
power, individuality, advancement, honor, gen
eral fortune; especially fortunate when found in
connection with future events; 21 represents
supervictory—the supreme success of the human
, soul—the union of wisdom and love at the end of
a path of human effort, realizing perfection and
task well done; considered one of the most mystic
of numbers that represents the supreme goal
toward which all work.
30 Belongs to the mental plane; therefore it is
neither fortunate nor unfortunate for either de
pends on the mental outlook of the individual
with this number; it can be all-powerful but it is
just as often indifferent; it is likely to put all
material things on one side—not because it has
to but because it wishes to do so; it is strong or
weak as it is used. This mental outlook will raise
the individual above the normal horizon and is
excellent for handling large affairs; indicates love
of theaters, dramatics, writing plays, love of
music; 30 gives dramatic ability, causes love of
children and animals; shows skill as a physician
or surgeon as 30 is connected with drugs, chemis
try, anatomy and medicine; 30 is free and bril
liant when used rightly; yet in the lowest aspect
it brings treachery and disloyalty.
12 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
39 Healthy and brings long life, friendship and love;
with 39 live in the southwest and face southwest;
lower aspect shows cruelty and suffering but
even as it can go to the lowest depths so it can
rise to the greatest heights.
48 Affectionate nature, sociable, pleasure loving;
tends to a happy marriage and general success
without either sacrifice or supervictory or the
mental freedom of 30; 48 is a more balanced
number nearer the influence of 3; its success lies
in artistic channels, theaters and amusements.
48 gives psychic and prophetic powers and also
indicates a return to the earth and products of
the earth; 48 loves physical ease but carried to
excess leads to self-indulgence and too easygoing
a disposition; functioning on the highest plane
seems to bring success and good fortune without
the usual effort.
57 Indicates a pleasant, social disposition, much
given to active pursuits; enjoys display, pageants
and military exhibitions; usually prosperous,
healthy and successful in business.
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 13
Number 4 and the Octaves of 4
Indicates work accomplished through will, ex
perience, action and realization; is deliberate or
cautious type; shows steadiness; inclined to view
everything from an opposite angle to others
which brings opposition and secret enemies; 4
rebels against rules and regulations and would
reverse the order of things even in communities
and governments; attracted to social questions
and reforms of all kinds; very positive and also
highly strung and sensitive; easily wounded in
feelings; rather indifferent as to accumulation of
wealth but when acquired surprises others by the
way 4 employs it and the use 4 puts it to; easily
becomes despondent and melancholy; inclined to
feel lonely and isolated.
The number of upheaval and destruction; sym
bol of power which, if used wrongly, wreaks
destruction upon itself; warns one of the un
known or unexpected. Some ancients say, “ He
who understands 13 is given power and domin
ion.” 13 brings change of plans, place, and not
unfortunate as generally supposed.
Warns of illusions and delusions; a good person
living in a fool’s paradise and dreaming but
14 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
awakens only when surrounded by danger; false
judgment because of the influence of others.
31 Not fortunate from a material standpoint; often
selfish; self-contained, lonely and isolated from
others.
40 Careful with money; specialized in printing,
literature and methodical living; has learned to
be less selfish and knows how to deal more
generously with others; 40 takes things more
easily, having gained the right to relax. 40 is
considered successful in either business or liter
ary lines; is a good investor; mathematical talents
have advanced a step from 31.
49 The tendency of this well-balanced vibration
leads onward and upward; a universal diplomat;
in its higher side it is spiritual, virtuous, but in
the lower it shows hatred, egotism and in
sincerity.
58 Makes a good doctor; has good health; controls
the eyes and sight; 58 makes one a good oculist;
58 makes one frank and affectionate, but because
58 is fickle it does not seem inclined to do any
analyzing.
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS IS
Number 5 and the Octaves of 5
5 The fundamental sex number; makes friends
easily and gets along with others who are born
almost any month; 5 exhausts the nervous
strength to the extent it often falls victim to
nervous breakdown of the worst kind and easily
becomes irritable and quick-tempered under any
mental tension; S, like rubber, is elastic and re
bounds at once from the heaviest blow, for noth
ing affects S deeply very long; S is attracted to
gambling and to stock exchange; born specula
tors; dislikes hard manual work and seems natu
rally to drift into all ways of making money
quickly; 5 is quick in thought and decisions and
impulsive in actions; lives on its nerves and
craves every kind of excitement.
14 The number of everlasting movement and com
bination of sexuality, revolution, motion, energy,
indecision, temperance, trial and dangers from
the natural forces, of ignorance and forgetful
ness; a number that must act with prudence and
the possessor must use caution since, as a rule,
owing to others’ foolhardiness, the action of
others, the possessor of 14 seems open to risk and
danger. 14 is called the true number of incarna-
i!.
16 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
tion since the soul, descending into matter, is
ignorant of its past experience in the flesh. 14
brings a combination of people and things, and if
the possessor of 14 acts with caution and pru
dence he or she can be fortunate in dealing with
money, speculation and changes in business. 14
is the number of regeneration and advancement
to something higher than the mere physical; this
number is sex raised to enthusiasm, affection,
love and devotion, or according to the lower
aspect of 14 it is degraded to lust, passion and
gratifications. 14 profits from aims pure and high
followed persistently.
23 23 is a number of success, help from superiors,
protection from people of position, fame; prom
ises success, protection from those in high places;
expresses cleverness and quick brain; learns
easily; is daring; gifted in speech and writing; in
dealing with the future denotes changes with
opportunity for betterment; most fortunate and
promises success for one’s plans.
32 This number is magical and associated usually
with combinations of people or nations; most
fortunate when it holds to its own judgment and
opinions, else plans are likely to become wrecked
by other people’s stupidity and stubbornness;
32 is usually a messenger of good luck in con
nection with future events; 32 brings many
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 17
friends, social and business connections; can
easily turn from one subject to another; a num
ber of action; 32 gives easy speech and quick
mastery of foreign languages; its bad aspects
indicate loose morals and lack of spirituality.
41 This number is considered favorable in connec
tion with future events; able to obtain what is
desired, keeping harmful things at a distance and
in control of passions and playboy tendencies.
SO It has been said of SO that it “ need have no fear
of fierce animals or firearms and it is not marked
for untimely death, although death’s shadow may
touch him.” SO lives a life of very intense and
constant activity that brings great success and
renown and many occupations. SO tends to bring
people into public life, feasts, crowds, and makes
its possessor eloquent, as does 23, in speech;
gives keen sight and hearing, magnetism, clear
brilliant eyes; brings power, leadership; makes
one a commander, dominating and dispensing
law, justice and order.
59 Considered a number that makes one immune
from danger and injury; a number of affairs and
many travels; successful with things pertaining
to the sea such as maritime operations; 59 makes
a good banker and broker but easily led into dis
honest speculation; 59 vibration makes one a
long-lived conqueror. 59 has many experiences and
18 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
may become a ruler. The fault of 59 is a continual
desire to gamble; also menaced by the desire to
swindle and commit fraud; must hold himself in
check and live on the highest plane of life.
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 19
Number 6 and the Octaves of 6
6 This number makes more friends than any other
except 5. 6 loves beautiful things; makes artistic
homes; admires paintings, statuary, rich colors,
and is fond of music. The wealthy who vibrate
with 6 are very generous to art and artists; they
find pleasure in entertaining their friends and
desire to make all about them happy, but they
cannot tolerate jealousy and discord. The angry
6 will die fighting for whatever cause he upholds
and will brook no opposition. 6 is considered
extremely magnetic and can attract others; is
loved and often worshiped by those subordinate
to him or her, but 6 is very determined in carry
ing out plans; at times 6 is obstinate and un
yielding unless 6 becomes deeply attached; then
no slave can be more devoted.
15 A fortunate number for obtaining money, gifts
and favors from others; 15 is considered also the
number of a good talker; 15 is eloquent. This
number is associated with the gift of music and
art as well as dramatic personality combined
with a kind of sensuous temperament and per
sonal magnetism that is very strong. But this
number of magic and mystery does not ordinarily

represent the higher side of occultism, for it is
said of IS, “ It will use every art of magic it can
to carry out its purpose. If associated with a good
or fortunate single number it can be very lucky
and powerful, but if associated with, say, a 4 or 8
the person with IS will use any sort of art or even
‘ black magic’ to gain what he or she desires.”
24 Gains through the opposite sex; warns against
danger from falls especially from a horse; prom
ises assistance and association of those of rank
and position with one’s plans; considered a for
tunate number; gain through influential women.
33 Steady, reliable, but not particularly a power for
either good or evil; best for reliable, regular,
conservative business; shows a strong desire to
protect others; preference is shown for the quiet
of the country rather than city life. The person
with this number is dignified, considerate and
discriminating. And it is said of this number that
“ only in rare cases is it found to have a bad in
fluence—then it is seen in connection with re
bellion, riots and lawbreaking.”
42 Strongly religious and leans toward the ministry;
consecrated in helping others; follows profes
sional work and the artistic, especially singing.
The bad aspect is baseness and treachery which,
possibly in extreme cases, may lead to violent
death.
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 21
Has the spirit of the warrior; especially favorable
for army or navy life; leader in any cause;
promises advancement in all undertakings; very
powerful; 51 walks successfully and untroubled
in trouble’s midst, subduing his inward fears; at
the same time smiles and talks cheerfully. It is a
number that threatens assassination; 51 promises
advancement in all undertakings.
This number makes one cheerful and sought
after to be managers, nurses, advisers and mental
healers; good lawyers; good health; submits eas
ily to authority, but if functioning in the lower
aspect of the number a person becomes a rebel
and insubordinate.
The number of fortune, honor and fame.

Number 7 and the Octaves of 7
7 Associated with water; owners or captains of
ships; very independent; original; has a strongly
marked individuality; loves change and travel;
restless; would, if it could, visit foreign countries;
very much interested in the affairs of far-off
lands; likes books on travel; has great amount of
knowledge of the world at large; often makes
extremely good writers, painters or poets, but
sooner or later shows in all undertakings a pecu
liar philosophical outlook on life; has peculiar
religious ideas; dislikes to follow the beaten path;
7 is a dreamer; intuitive, clairvoyant; has pecul
iar magnetism over others; has good ideas about
business but seldom carries them out.
16 A number of weakness, subversion, accident,
catastrophes, earthquakes and explosions; the
most destructive vibration; defeat and danger;
danger signal; calls for caution; danger of defeat
of plans; disappointments in love or marriage
when found in one’s birth path; warning of
strange fatality. Symbol—the shattered tower or
citadel. On the tarot card is the picture of a man
falling with a crown on his head. Lightning has
struck the tower—“ ruin of the house of life after

evil has prevailed.” The higher aspect of 16 is
the path of glory and victory for the righteous,
but the tendency seems to follow the lower aspect
of this number; the evil is very strong.
25 Makes one safe on water and considered a good
swimmer; a master of mysteries; strongly in
tuitive; gives prophetic dreams or second sight;
dominates occult subjects and finds solace in
nature; guard against black magic; strength
gained through mastering obstacles; strength
obtained through observation of people and
things. Through strife and trials in the earlier
life success is given and considered favorable
when it appears in regard to the future.
34 This number is connected with hidden and mys
terious things; it is intuitive and controls the
occult; shows a retiring into its own mind; con
ventional, therefore seldom oversteps; gives a
strong religious and spiritual feeling.
43 In all aspects 43 is connected with military ac
tivities, for it is symbolized by signs of revolu
tion, upheaval, strife, failure and prevention.
For the future it means possible upheavals, strife
and failure of plans; some danger from war and
firearms, but victory can be obtained only
through positive action. 43 is considered an un
fortunate number. It is symbolized as “ The
Death Point.”
24 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
52 A lover of nature; patient before adversity; very
courageous; a 52 person is ready to close the
door, as it were. It means the finishing of some
task. The spiritual rather than the physical be
gins to prevail and with the “ Inner Light”
dawning upon the consciousness worldly inter
ests are being shut out. Interest is shown in the
higher things of life.
61 Sincere; peaceful; knows how to control self and
others by quiet, calm self-control; likes travel
and pleasures; pleasures must be honest.
70 This number is considered fortunate yet its
power is similar to 7. Although a much higher
octave than the others of 7 it is without a dis
tinct potency.
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 25
Number 8 and the Octaves of 8
8 888 is the number given to our Lord Jesus Christ
in His role as World Redeemer. This number
gives a deep and intense nature; great strength of
individuality; 8 is either a great success or great
failure with no happy medium; when ambitious
8 aims for public life or governmental responsi
bility and an 8 person often holds a very high
position that involves great sacrifice, but, gener
ally misunderstood, feels very lonely at heart.
8 is a number considered fatalistic and fanatical
in religion. 8 is faithful and will stand for what it
believes to be right regardless of opposition. 8 is
a number that can give an impression the oppo
site of what it really is. 8 has feeling for the
persecuted. An 8 person may appear cold but 8
makes one really kindhearted. The higher aspect
of 8 indicates philosophic thought, religious de
votion, concentration of purpose, zeal for any
cause espoused, but the lower side represents up
heaval, revolution, anarchy, waywardness and
all kinds of eccentricities.
17 A very spiritual number; called the Path of the
Realization and Reward of the Righteous; sym
bol of peace and love. The person representing 17
26 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
has risen superior in spirit to the trials and diffi
culties of his life or his career; considered an im
mortal number and shows that the person with
8, of which 17 is an octave, has his name live
after him. 17 is considered fortunate in relation
to future events when not associated with the
single number of 4 and 8. 17 expresses truth,
faith and hope. 17 is the number of executive
ability and utility and carries the power of
financial success; deals with things concrete in a
wise manner. One finds equilibrium, power of
intuition and expression of beauty with 17.
26 On the higher side 26 has been called the number
of Jehovah. Strength is given through control,
experience and wisdom; it is considered a good
number for diplomacy and secret service; makes
one an energetic and compelling speaker. Held to
be a strong number whether for good or bad, and
in either case tends to worldly prosperity. But
the lower aspect gives warning; possible disasters
or money losses or unsuccessful partnerships, but
it also brings the power to control others; leader
ship; the number of self-confidence, although
some unusual event may be needed to develop
this quality. Another bad aspect is the indication
of burglars, racketeers and lawbreakers, treach
ery and evil; foreshadowing disasters brought
about by association with others; ruin by bad
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 27
speculations, by partnerships, unions and bad
advice. Therefore it is advisable to watch the
path one is treading in the future with 26.
A person with this number often inherits money
and lives in peace with the world; enjoys travel,
but in ease may become cruel and tyrannical.
35 is generally friendly and should be helpful.
One with this number generally advances with
out much effort and succeeds quite naturally.
Here we have a distinguished number; a num
ber of bravery; success in practical undertakings;
glory in political and military pursuits, but warn
ing is given with 44 that too great desire for fame
may be coupled with personal loss and that
hoarding may lead to loss just as too great riches
will. Advice is given: “ With 44 you must use
self-control and know when to stop.”
This number makes one a good detective; he is
given to details. The lower aspect of 53 descends
to racketeering, spying and using powers for
leadership for bad ends. 53 makes a good military
man and is rather severe in temperament; likes
authority. Though set in his ways, a person with
number 53 vibration will nevertheless always go
ahead.
28 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Number 9 and the Octaves of 9
9 People who vibrate 9 are considered fighters in
all they attempt in life and usually have difficult
times in their early life but in the end are success
ful because of their grit, strong will and deter
mination. 9 people make great enemies and their
vibration causes strife and opposition wherever
it is felt. 9 brings haste in temper; makes one
impulsive, independent, and gives the desire to
be one’s own master. 9 people are often wounded
or killed either in war or life generally. 9 men
maice good soldiers or leaders in any cause be
cause 9 people have great courage. They are im
pulsive in word and action. This is their greatest
danger. And they are prone to accidents from fire
and explosions and rarely get through life with
out some injury from such causes. Much the
same as 6 people in this respect, 9 will do most
anything for affection and sympathy. 9 is never
theless considered fortunate so long as one con
trols it and is not carried away by the excesses of
temper and violence that is included in its
vibration.
18 Symbolizes the materialism of the world warring
against the spiritual side of man’s nature. 18 is
THE MEANING OF NUMBERS 29
generally associated with bitter quarrels, even
family ones; also with war, social strife and re
volt; 18 has also been considered the number, in
some cases, of making money and position
through war and it brings the warning of treach
ery, deception by others. 18 warns of danger
from storms, water, fires and explosions. When
18 affects you “ stop, look and listen” ; take great
amount of care, caution and be on guard. Doc
tors and lawyers often are represented by 18;
this number gives the talent for healing. And it
also stands for justice and truth. 18 on the higher
side means spirituality; 18 on the lower indicates
materiality. 18 is called “ the border line” and
gives the power of mediumship as well as the
power to go in and out of the visible and invisible
world. Because it is a threshold number, 9 people
are either very good or very bad, excellently bal
anced or very much unbalanced. 18 is considered
the number of genius as well as insanity; the
number also of black magic as well as nobility;
and usually when 18 comes into the vibration it
means an ending or finishing of something to
make way for a new beginning.
27 The 27th path in the “ Sepher Yetzirah,” accord
ing to Kozminsky, is called the “ path wherein is
created the mighty intellect of all created things.”
It is considered a good number and gives power
30 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
in public places; the ability to think and act in
dependently. For future events 27 denotes, as a
rule, an increase of success to follow the closing
of existing conditions, and it is often considered
a literary number. 27 gives one the desire to help
others physically, materially or spiritually. This
number shows a creative intellect and love of
art, peace, beauty and justice, but the bad aspect
at times shows intolerance or bigotry. Having as
its symbol “ the scepter,” 27 promises authority,
power and command. Reward to 27 comes from
the productive intellect and shows that the
creative faculties have sown the good seed that
brings a good harvest. 27 people should follow
their own ideas and plans rather than other
people’s, and this number is considered fortu
nate when it appears in connection with future
events.
36 According to Mary Adams, this number brings
good influence; it brings authority, power and
success to all using their talents rightly; gener
ous, kind, sympathetic; calls for service of others;
easily upset; has many ups and downs.
45 45 loves to teach and serve as well as help others;
it punishes wickedness, lifts the fallen and the
distressed; indicates preparedness against emer
gencies rather than the passive resistance of the
lower octaves of 9. 45 is the number of early

marriage, children and activities connected with
groups and organizations, according to Miss
Adams.
54 Brings the gift of eloquence, scholarship, long
life, success, usually good health but danger of
lameness, riches and respect of fellow men.
63 He who vibrates with 63 is a born missionary and
reformer; has good health; works for advance
ment of the world either commercially or pro
fessionally. 63 people need to guard against be
coming wasters and mere drifters. Although the
tendency is considered fortunate, yet 63 is held
to be a doubtful number.
72 Seldom we find the meaning given to 72 an
octave of 9 but then it is referred to as a number
of mercy; also of angels.
The author makes no claim to have discovered
the meaning of numbers as given in this lesson.
This wisdom must have been known in pre
historic days. He is rather inclined to believe
the tradition, since the meaning of the word
Quaballah is “ received from God,” and this
Hebrew system of numerology is considered the
earliest known to man. Moreover, the tarot
cards are related to the Hebrew Quaballah and
they are very ancient. These cards show symbolic
32 N U M ER O LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
pictures that contain the meaning of the num
bers on the cards. One writer may explain the
same number differently from another, yet the
meaning each gives is practically the same.
LESSON II
Psychoanalysis by Numbers
(What’s in a Name?)
T he r e a d e r w il l r e c a l l my statement at the
beginning of Lesson One:
This science goes far and it has been proven to me
that it is as true with this subject as with any other
occult study, “ When the student is ready the master
is waiting.”
A few months previous to my coming to this
city there dawned upon me, in my study of
numerology, the realization that the mental
relationship of one individual to another can
be determined numerically, and I applied my
personal discovery to the fullest extent and ob
tained amazing results. I already knew that the
birth path and periods of the year of birth,
when considered, reveal one’s relationship, but
there was another discovery to be made in the
relationship of one to another that was more
intimate.
At about the time of my discovery I had made
up my mind to leave the city and move to a
33
34 N U M ER O LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
community having a numerical vibration in
harmony with my own, and I followed the advice
of a more experienced numerologist to live in a
town whose name totaled the same as the date
of the month of my birth, which is considered
a number that pertains to individual or personal
matters. But to my surprise the result was not
as I expected from a business standpoint; how
ever my health was greatly improved. Was I to
dismiss the Hebrew system of numerology com
pletely? Or was I being introduced into more
light ? I found the latter to be true. If I had not
come here I probably would not have learned
the lesson intended for me to learn. Needless
to say, my initiation was severe, but my faithful
ness was rewarded. The number of my birth
path was being proven to me. This number is 46,
the meaning of which is:
“ Sometimes a great inventor; a psychic;
scientist.” And this lesson was given to me, that
a city or community is to be dealt with as a
person, a corporate person; that it has a date
of birth which is the day it came into legal ex
istence, and the name given to the community
is its name of destiny with vowels that indicate
its talents. Vowels also indicate the prevailing
PSY CH O A N A LYSIS B Y N U M B E R S 35
mind of the community; Consonants reveal the
city’s personality—that is the impression it
makes on people.
In answer to my question, “ What does numer
ology show with regard to my relationship with
Oakland?” I added the vowels of the name of
the city 07 plus A1 plus A1 equals 9. Added to
the 21 which is the total of the vowels of the
signature I was writing I found my relationship
came to 30 which means:
. . . 30 is likely to put all material things on one
side, not because it has to but because it so wishes it.
For this reason it is neither fortunate nor unfortunate
for either depends on the mental outlook of the person
30 represents. It can be all-powerful but it is just as
often indifferent.
I then tested my discovery by adding the total
of the vowels of the names of many others with
not only the total of the vowels of the name of
this city but with many other cities and found it
to work out as in my case. I have given careful
consideration to the matter.
What must I do to remedy the matter? Must
I leave town and locate where I vibrate better?
Possibly! But a better idea presented itself. I
will adopt a signature with vowels that do harmo-
36 N U M ER O LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
nize with the vowels of the city where I reside.
By doing so I found that my new relationship
would be as 24, which means:
Fortunate; promises assistance and association of
those of rank and position with one’s plans . . .
And those who came to know me by my newly
adopted signature in this city show this in their
relationship with me. But it takes time to estab
lish a name vibration, especially when the former
signature was commonly used for quite some
time and your business transactions or legal
affairs carry the old form of signature, unless
you carry your old signature with you to a town
that harmonizes with it, in which case no change
of signature is necessary. But if one desires to
remain he must harmonize with the vibrations
to succeed. Usage will establish it.
HOW TO APPLY NUMEROLOGY TO A
PERSONAL NAME
Therefore my answer to the question “ What’s
in a name?” is this: Every name includes a vibra
tory number that is so important that it effects
his state of mind. He shows it in his personality
and it has much to do with the impression he
makes on others. In the early part of Lesson One
PSYCHOANALYSIS BY NUMBERS 37
I quoted Kozminsky that you may see the impor
tance Jews have placed to the vibrations belong
ing to the name. The impression we make on
others contributes to the knowledge others have
of us. If we are registered in the hotel by one form
of signature with vowels and consonants having
a total that is different to the sum of the vowels
and consonants of the form of signature we sign
in our business establishment our relations will
be different as the case may be. But if our
signature is stabilized there will be uniformity
and we will have, because of uniformity, a more
settled state of mind and the vibration of the
settled name will proportionately increase. As
an example:
Suppose Robert Wilson McDonald writes his
full name on the hotel register and he is known
there as he writes it; he will vibrate as follows:

P e r s o n a lit y : The personality of R. W. McDonald is
very different from that of Robert Wilson McDonald,
which makes him a rather jolly good fellow, seeking a
good time, and liking company. The personality of his
adopted name tends to make him self-contained,
lonely and isolated from his fellows, and he appears
selfish; not fortunate from a worldly or material
standpoint. Therefore we hardly find Mr McDonald
at work taking much of an active part socially. He
keeps himself apart; confides in no one.

HOW TO APPLY NUMEROLOGY TO THE NAME OF A
CITY OR TOWN
A city or town, as well as a firm, is a corporate
person, having for its birth path the date it came
into legal existence and a name adopted when
the charter was granted. The vowels of the
corporate person is the general opinion and
drift of thought prevailing, and if the individual
vibrates with this drift of thought there is har
mony and success; if he does not vibrate the
result is discord and finally separation. But to
establish a mental vibration with a corporation
or town the form of signature must be stabilized
there; otherwise there is no name vibration any
more than with a stranger whose name we do
not know and who does not know ours.
Our relations with strangers whose names we
do not know and who do not know ours is de-
42 N U M ER O LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
termined by our unalterable birth path alone,
which subject we will discuss in a later lesson.
Though our birth path is unalterable, yet the
form of signature of the name can be altered.
If our date of birth appears unfortunate we can
relieve the situation considerably by drawing
to us a good mental and personality vibration
that will at least bring us considerably into
harmony with our companions and surroundings.
As an example:
Let us consider the city named:

vibration causes strife and opposition wherever it is
felt. 9 brings haste in temper; makes one impulsive,

war or life generally. 9 men make good soldiers or

courage. They are impulsive in word and action. This
is their greatest danger. And they are prone to acci
dents from fire and explosions and rarely get through
life without some injury from such causes. Much the
same as 6 people in this respect, 9 will do most any
thing for affection and sympathy. 9 is nevertheless
considered fortunate so long as one controls it and is
not carried away by the excesses of temper and
violence that is included in its vibration.
S u m m a r y : Oakland’s general drift of thought is
such that it will be a struggle when it attempts any
thing new; especially was this true in the earlier
period of the city’s legal existence. In the end, be
cause of determination on the part of officials, Oak
land will become successful. The city is evidently
destined to have a great fire or fires as Chicago ex
perienced, which city has the same mental state as
Oakland as well as the same personality and destiny
numbers. Oakland may be the scene of great battles.
P e r so n a lity (14) The number of everlasting move
ment and combination of sexuality, revolution, mo
tion, energy, indecision, temperance, trial and dan
gers from the natural forces, of ignorance and forget
fulness, according to Kozminsky . . . 14 is a com
bination of people and things; 14 is fortunate for
dealing with money, speculation and changes in busi
ness, but the great risk and danger attached to it
comes from the action and foolhardiness of others;
44 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
14 warns to act with caution and prudence; it is the
number of regeneration and advancement to some
thing higher than the mere physical; 14 is sex raised
to enthusiasm, affection, love and devotion or else
degraded to lust, passion and gratifications.
S u m m a r y : The appearance of Oakland as does
Chicago must always be a town with a combination
of people. It will have the appearance sometime of
having suffered from natural forces such as tempests,
water, air or fire. Like Chicago, it will sometime ap
pear fortunate for dealing with money, speculation
and changes in business, but a strong warning goes
with it for people in Oakland to act with caution and
prudence as is the case in Chicago, being the number
of regeneration and advancement to something higher
will call for a great deal of mission work among the
people. The sex question is outstanding here because
5 is the sex number. 14 is regeneration to something
higher or else degradation, in either case a change
from 5, the primary number.
D e stin y n u m b er (23) Number of success, help from

HOW TO EXPLAIN BY NUMEROLOGY THE RELATION
SHIP BETWEEN AN INDIVIDUAL AND A CITY OR
TOWN
Now let us suppose that Robert Wilson Mc
Donald comes to Oakland to make his home as
well as establish his place of business. What
relationship exists between him and this city?
The mental state of Robert Wilson McDonald,
we have found, is 28; the mental state of Oak
land is 9; and the two mental states of 28 and 9
added together produce a mental relationship
between Robert Wilson McDonald and Oakland
of 37, which according to the “ Meaning of
Numbers” is as follows:
Good and fortunate friendships in love and in com
binations connected with the opposite sex; also a good
number for partnerships of all kinds; in connection
with the future it is most fortunate.
Therefore it would be profitable for Robert

Oakland or Chicago, which two cities have the

same state of mind, personality and destiny num
bers. But if Mr McDonald should continue to
be known at work as R. W. McDonald his busi
ness relationship in Oakland would be (8 plus
9 or 17):
17 is the number of executive ability and utility
and carries the power of financial success. 17 deals
with things concrete in a wise manner. One finds
equilibrium, power of intuition and expression of
beauty with 17.
HOW TO EXPLAIN BY NUMEROLOGY THE RELATION
SHIP BETWEEN TWO INDIVIDUALS
Robert Wilson McDonald makes the acquaint
ance of Walter Stanford who knows him as R. W.
McDonald. Mr McDonald considers Walter
Stanford as a possible employee. Will their busi
ness relationship be successful and pleasant or
would it be better for Mr McDonald not to
employ this man? We shall presently see by
counting out the name of Walter Stanford as
follows:

ment and combination of sexuality, revolution, mo
tion, energy, indecision, temperance, trial and dangers
from the natural forces, of ignorance and forget
fulness . . . 14 is a combination of people and things;
14 is fortunate for dealing with money, speculation
and changes in business, but the great risk and danger
attached to it comes from the action and foolhardi
ness of others; 14 warns to act with caution and
prudence; it is the number of regeneration and ad
vancement to something higher than the mere physi
cal; 14 is sex raised to enthusiasm, affection, love and
devotion or else degraded to lust, passion and gratifi
cations. Success in the 14th path comes when one
makes his aims pure and high and follows them per
sistently.
R. W. McDonald’s 8 state of mind added to
Walter Stanford’s 14 state of mind amounts to a
Number 22 mental relationship, which means
the following:
Warns of illusions and delusions; a good person
living in a fool’s paradise and dreaming but awakens
only when surrounded by danger; false judgment be
cause of the influence of others.
Therefore we conclude their mental relationship
in this summary: There would evidently be a
48 N U M ER O LO G Y FO R EV E R Y B O D Y
certain amount of misunderstanding between
these two men even though both of them may
be good men. False judgment, owing to the
influence of others, would be detrimental to
both and would interfere with the peace of all
concerned. To avoid this, under such conditions
it would be better not to employ Mr Stanford,
notwithstanding his ability.
If the mental relationship were 23, 21 or 24 or
some other harmonious number the situation
would be different. But let us suppose that in
their interview R. W. McDonald finds that
Walter Stanford has a middle name of Arthur.
Mr McDonald could consider Mr Stanford in a
23 relationship by having his name listed on
the pay roll and refer to him as “ Walter A. Stan
ford the letter A as you have noticed in the
alphabet has the value of 1 and 1 added to 14
(which is the total of the vowels in the name of
Walter Stanford) gives 15 or the total of the
vowels of the name of Walter A. Stanford. The
mental relationship would then be 23, as follows:
A number of success, help from superiors, protec
tion from people of position, fame. 23 promises . . .
cleverness and quick brain; learns easily; is daring;
gifted in speech and writing; in dealing with the
PSYCHOANALYSIS BY NUMBERS 49
future denotes changes with opportunity for better
ment; most fortunate and promises success for one’s
plans.
Examining the full vibration of the entire name
of Walter A. Stanford, we get now a 56 which
includes the additional middle initial A , as
follows:
This number dominates and inspires others; it
gains fortune and distinction but may outdo his
worthy deeds and resort to unworthy ambitions. 56 is
very nervous, mentally restless and must learn to
control the nerves.
But considering 23 the mental relationship with
its favorable promise, Mr McDonald could feel
satisfied that there would be complete under
standing with Walter A. Stanford sufficiently to
improve conditions, so long as Walter A. Stan
ford’s personality was satisfactory and he is a
good workman. Mr Stanford’s personality as
Walter A. Stanford or Walter Stanford is 41,
which means:
Favorable in connection with future events; able to
obtain what is desired, keeping harmful things at a
distance and in control of passions and playboy
tendencies.
50 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
This principle of determining th e. mental
relationship of one to another can be an aid to
medical practitioners, attorneys-at-law and other
professional people in finding their relations to
clients as well as the true nature of those in
opposition. Moreover, teachers and parents can,
by this method, learn the true nature of chil
dren; sweethearts can do likewise before marriage
and in this way save future regret.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE
“ developm ent n u m ber”
At the beginning of this lesson we referred to,
or rather considered, the “ development number”
in connection with the change of signature from
the name of destiny of the name Robert Wilson
McDonald to his adopted name with develop
ment number of R. W. McDonald. The number
of development is the result of a total of the
vowels and consonants in the name we adopt,
which number is a new channel that may be
developed through life, the opportunity for indi
vidual activity, indicating failure, success or
departure from ordinary and restrictive con
ditions. The importance of this number increases
proportionately with the increase of acquaint-

anceship, fame or prominence of the individual.
It effects a change in the future of men.
NAPOLEON ANALYZED BY NUMEROLOGY
Let us here consider, as an example, the name
of “ Napoleon Buonaparte,” that he later changed
to “ Napoleon Bonaparte” :

The name of destiny given at birth was Napoleon
Buonaparte that included the talents he was
born with, what he was destined to do. In this
case the full number of his destiny was 82, but
looking over the octaves of 1, there is no 82
listed; therefore we add again the 8 and 2 and
obtain 10 which means:
Honor, faith, self-confidence; name will be known
for good or evil, according to one’s desires; plans
likely carried out.
52 N U M ERO LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
I might add here that the symbol of Number
10 is “ The Wheel of Fortune.” But after he
changed the spelling of his name by leaving out
the vowel и the number of adoption became
76; rather the number of development of the
name of adoption became 76. Looking over the
octaves, we find no 76; therefore we add again
and obtain number 13, which means:
“ The number of upheaval and destruction; symbol
of power which, if used wrongly, wreaks destruction
upon itself; warns one of the unknown or unex
pected.”
If Napoleon had continued his spelling of the
last name with the vowel u, Buonaparte, it is
probable that his end would have been different.
No wonder the ancients said, “ He who deals
with the Quaballah deals with fire.” Not that
fire in itself is not good, but carelessness in choos
ing vibratory numbers contained in names might
bring a result that acts like fire when it gets
out of control. But on the other hand, fire under
control or the use of the Quaballah of Numbers
understandingly can be the making of men. We
have seen that numbers have both good and bad
aspects; therefore in choosing or adopting a new
PSY CH O A N A LYSIS B Y N U M B E R S S3
signature it is wise to consider well both angles
before proceeding.
In the next lesson we will analyze the destiny
number as well as consider the birth path related
with it.
L E SSO N III
The Destiny Number and Birth Path
Our last lesso n considered and answered the
question, “ What’s in a name?” and we found
that every name includes a vibratory number so
important that it affects the mind and person
ality of the individual who carries it as well as
impresses others who see and hear it for good or
evil as the case may be. The name of adoption
carries with it the number of development which
is a new channel that may be developed through
life, giving opportunity for individual activity
that indicates success or failure. It also causes
departure from ordinary and restrictive con
ditions: the vibration adopted increases pro
portionately with the increase of acquaintance
ship, fame and prominence of the person who
bears it. And this name of adoption, with its
number of development, we exemplified in the
preceding chapter in the name of “ R. W. Mc
Donald ” that was derived from the name of
destiny of Robert Wilson McDonald.
54
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 55
In this lesson I shall show that the name and
number of destiny is not entirely displaced by
the name of adoption. The name of destiny shows
forth the “ talents man is born w i t h the first
definite vibration that affects the individual; a
mark of individuality “ that distinguishes him
from others who have the same birth number;
the groundwork upon which he may build his
future.” The name of destiny carries a number
of single names. Each single name contains dis
tinct vibrations of their own, such a s :
(a) The family name, considered the hereditary
name, carrying the hereditary number.
(b) Active name, generally the first name, pointing
to personal activities that are prompted by certain
individual characteristics. In the name “ Robert W.
McDonald,” Robert would be the active name, but
for him to continually sign his name R. Wilson
McDonald, Wilson would be the active name. The
name “ McDonald” in every case would be the
hereditary name.
(c) Passive name is the subordinated name. In the
name “ R. W. McDonald” the hereditary name,
McDonald, would be not only the hereditary name
but the only active name as well, since both first and
second names in this instance are subordinate.
56 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
(d) The destiny name is the full name given at
birth, which in this case is Robert Wilson McDonald.
THE DESTINY OF THE BUONAPARTE FAMILY
The destiny name of Napoleon Buonaparte,
which indicates the talents he was born with,
shows them to be:
Honor, faith, self-confidence; name will be known
for good or evil, according to one’s desires; plans
likely carried out.
The Buonaparte family all carry the same heredi
tary name and number. The mind of the family
name being 20, we find it to be as follows:
Awakening of new plans, new purposes, new am
bitions, the call to action for some great purpose,
cause or duty . . . doubtful as far as worldly success is
concerned. As for the future there is indication of de
lays, hindrances to plans and obstacles which can
only be conquered through the spiritual development
of man’s nature.
During the French Revolution Napoleon Buona
parte responded to “ the call to action for some
great purpose, cause or duty.” True to his heredi
tary number, he experienced delays and hin
drances to his plans when he invaded Russia and
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 57
in the Battle of Waterloo. If Napoleon had not
changed the spelling of his name from Buona
parte to Bonaparte his first name added to his
hereditary name would have continued for him
a successful vibration, but though favored with
the helpful name Napoleon, it was nevertheless
his destiny to experience an interference with
his plans. His brother, Joseph Buonaparte, also
failed to continue his reign as king of Spain, and
a later Emperor Napoleon was forced to abdicate
the French throne before the victorious Prussians
in 1870. Napoleon Buonaparte had no passive
name. He was born with these talents that we
find brought out in the vowels of the name given
to him at birth:
Careful with money and usually a good investor—
specialized in . . . methodical living . . . and can be
successful in either business or literary lines, (see
Octave 40)
And he was born with this personality:
A leaning toward . . . professional work . . . in ex
treme cases may lead to death, (see Octave 42)
He was a French officer, therefore a professional
soldier, having graduated from the military
academy.
58 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH APPLIED
We have said in the beginning of this lesson that
the name and number of destiny distinguishes
the individual from others who are born with the
same birth path, yet the total name vibrations
can hardly be of value without stabilizing the
name. Unstable thinking and indecision may
come from shifting from one name to another.
To gain the most of the talents he was born
with and to find happiness and success, Mr Mc
Donald must work out his birth path and then
harmonize the writing of his name with it.
Let us say that Robert Wilson McDonald was
born
Jan u ary 6, 1907.
We find his birth path carries this vibration:
January is the 1st m o n th ........ 1
6 th of the month........................ 6
The year 1907 when added is. .17
Total of birth path............24
which means:
Gains through the opposite sex; warns against
danger from falls especially from a horse; promises
assistance and association of those of rank and posi
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 59
tion with one’s plans; considered a fortunate number;
gain through influential women.
Mention might here be made to this important
matter: It concerns the birth path. Since the
number of the birth path carries with it what the
individual brings into this world it is considered
the most important vibration by foremost nu-
merologists.
In the last lesson we found that the destiny
number came to be 78 but when reduced comes
to the single number 6, and by harmonizing it
to the birth path we find it governed by 24 which,
if reduced, will also come to the single number
6 which in this case harmonizes with the name.
But for two individuals who have both a 6 state
of mind that total, when added, a 12, the result
would be:
Suffering and anxiety; called the “ victim” ; gener
ally foreshadows one being sacrificed for the plans or
intrigues of others.
But let us suppose the birth path came to a 12
or a 21 and the name came to 78. To obtain a
development number that will harmonize with
the birth path Mr McDonald could write his
name “ R. W. McDonald,” which as you know
60 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
comes to 39 and can be reduced to the single
number 3 as 12 can. Therefore, under such con
ditions, it would be well for Mr McDonald to
write his name as “ R. W. McDonald” and fol
low through life number 24 or 6.
NUMEROLOGY APPLIED IN CHOOSING
ADVANTAGEOUS DATES
Now let us proceed in our analysis of the birth
path that we have taken as an example:
January 6, 1907.
Another important point that it would be well to
remember is this :
For general matters use the number of the month,
which in this case would be 1, since January is the
first month.
For individual or personal matters use the number
of the date of the month, which in this case would be
6 —January the 6 th.
For matters that affect the current of destiny use
the number of the year, which in this case would be
17; the year 1907 added gives us 17.
Mr McDonald, in this case, considers the number
of the month of January or 1 as useful to him
as far as general matters are concerned; he con
siders the number of the date of the month of his
T H E D E S T IN Y N U M B E R A N D B IR T H PATH 61
birth that is 6 useful for individual or personal
matters. And his number affecting the current
of his destiny is the addition of his year of birth
1907 or 17.
Affecting personal or individual matters, let
us suppose Mr McDonald, by his adopted name
and number of development (in this case is R. W.
McDonald a 39) seeks to know if Monday,
April 26, will be favorable to carry out some
plan; let us say, to ask the general manager,
under whom he is superintendent, for an increase
in wages or a better position with the firm. So
long as his name is stabilized, Mr McDonald can
include his signature in the calculation. He there
fore adds the total of the name of adoption, 39,
to his date of birth, 6 (his date of birth being the
number of individual or personal matters), and
obtains 45. And 45 added to the date under con
sideration, 26, gives a total of 71, the meaning
of which is:
. . . not altogether fortunate. Proceed with caution.
Therefore Mr McDonald must choose another
day, say two days previous to April 26 or April
24, which when added gives us 69 meaning:
. . . fortune, honor and fame.
62 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
But if Mr McDonald had no stabilized signature
it would be necessary for him to simply add the
day of the month of his birth to the 26th, leaving
off the number of his name.
Let us suppose that the name of the individual
has not been stabilized; the number to use would
be simply the number of the day of birth, since
for everyday matters pertaining to the individual
this number is used; that is, a person born on
January 6 would take the 6 plus the day of the
month under consideration, such as the 26th;
the result would be 32, the meaning of which is:
. . . magical . . . most fortunate when it holds to its
own judgment and opinions, else plans are likely to
become wrecked by other people’s stupidity and
stubbornness; 32 is usually a messenger of good luck
in connection with future events . . . brings many
friends, social and business connections; can easily
turn from one subject to another . . .
The one exception is made to the foregoing
and that is where the individual is born on the
4th or the 8th of any month or in the 4th or 8th
period of the year. When I say the 4th or the 8th
of any month I mean also the octaves that go
with 4 and 8, such a s :
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 63
13th,
17th,
22nd,
26th,
31st.
These people should not pick out any one of these
dates as the best for important actions. It would
be better to choose other dates than the above
mentioned, because of their fatalistic tendencies,
such as dates that would come under the 3, 6 and
9 series. 4 and 8 people are warned against living
in houses, the numbers of which make 4, 13, 22,
31, 40, 8, 17, 26, 35, 44, to avoid unfortunate
experiences. I have even seen the effect of 8,
which is the number of the planet Saturn, on
individuals born in the 8th period of the year yet
having a 23 or some other number for the day of
birth, and the effect was very unfortunate. One
individual I have in mind wrote his name with a
full vibratory force that would be an octave of
8. To relieve himself of the hold this person had
to carefully watch his dates and house numbers.
Those of us who are not born in the period of
the 8 or on the 8th day of the month, nor bom
in the period of the 4 or on the 4th day of the
month, will experience no harm from choosing
64 N U M ER O LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
either 4 or 8 or the octaves of 4 or 8 in names of
adoption or dates for appointments. But other
wise beware.
Let us take into consideration the meaning of
8 as it is given in The Meaning of Numbers. How
true is it with Jesus Christ, whose birth is cele
brated in the period of Saturn and from what
accounts we have was bom in January or De
cember? Even the name “ Jesus Christ” carries
vowels that when added total 12 (e5 plus u6
plus il or 12) which means:
Expresses the desire to make atonement; man’s
lower nature must be sacrificed to the Higher Power;
a number of “ suffering and anxiety,” called the
“ victim,” generally foreshadows one being sacrificed
for the plans or intrigues of others.
Of course this name is our translation. Even then
the fatalistic hand is seen. 8 people are usually
the victims of circumstantial evidence, dying
with their secret and going to the Higher Tri
bunal for justice that they failed to receive among
men. The symbol given for 8 is given on the
tarot card. It shows strength; conquest by gentle
means. A young woman is closing the mouth of
a lion and the lion is held by a chain of flowers.
T H E D E ST IN Y N U M B E R A N D B IR T H PATH 65
Another symbol for 8 has been “ the figure of
Justice with a sword pointing upward and a
balance or scales in the left hand.”
The story of Dr Crippen is outstanding with
respect to the influence of 8. Here is a man who
was convicted and executed on the strength of
circumstantial evidence. The. numbers 4 and 8
seemed to be ever before him. The year of his
birth came to an 8; the day he made his state
ment to the police inspector was the 8th; the
ships he sailed on to escape had 8 letters each.
Even the day of his trial came to a 4 and he was
executed at the age of 48. From his own lips came
a statement that was considered and used as
strong evidence against him. Dr Crippen died
for the murder of his wife and the odds were
against him.
NUMEROLOGY APPLIED TO THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN AN INDIVIDUAL AND A CITY OR TOWN
In the previous lesson I said that I discovered
in my personal experience that the city or town
is related to the individual in the same sense as
one individual is related to another, it having a
date of legal birth and a name of destiny that in
cludes vowels and consonants that signify the
66 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
general drift of thought prevailing or “ state of
mind” as well as a “ personality” or an im
pression that the city makes on people. Astrolo
gers advise people to choose a town that harmo
nizes with the same planetary influence affecting
them at birth. Why then should this not also be
taken into account in choosing a town by nu
merology, since the birth path is unalterable ? But
the other side of the problem is with the name of
adoption. Both the date of the month of the
town’s legal birth added to its name of destiny
will produce the full vibratory force affecting
the community in general.
Now by referring back to our example, we find
R. W. McDonald’s adopted name carries a full
vibratory force of 39. Added to the day of the
month of his birth, the 6th, we obtain 45, which
is Mr McDonald’s full vibratory number. And
both full vibrations, that of Mr McDonald’s
adopted name, rather his adopted signature and
that of Oakland respectively, added together
produce the exact relationship of Mr McDonald
to Oakland. I am not certain of the true birthday
of Oakland but I believe it is May 4, 1850. At
least we will suppose it is so in this instance.
Oakland, legally born on the 4th, added to 23,
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 67
the full vibratory force affecting the community
in general through the name of destiny, produces
27, the total vibratory force of both birth and
name. And 27 added to 45, the full vibratory
number of Mr McDonald will produce 72, which
is the exact relationship of R. W. McDonald to
Oakland, the meaning of which is:
. . . number of angels and of mercy . . .
It is therefore a very spiritual number. This
calculation would make one more exact of course.
Yet in ordinary matters we might consider it
sufficient to harmonize the person’s state of mind
to the “ state of mind” or drift of thought
affecting the city or community, because in many
cases it is very difficult to obtain the legal birth
date of the town or hamlet under consideration.
Now let us proceed with the number of the
month. This number is useful as far as general
matters, and from birth until the 27th birthday
the digit of the month is most powerful. But the
date of the month of birth is most important for
individual or personal matters, and this number
is most outstanding from the 27th birthday to
the 54th year. Following the 54th year, until the
individual reaches 81, the digit of the year of
68 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
birth (the four figures reduced till there is but
the addition of them) is most prominent. After
a person reaches 81 the entire birth path rules.
In the case of Mr McDonald, whose birthday is
January 6, 1907, he would find number 1 most
outstanding until he reached his 27th birthday
because January is the first month of the year.
After his 27th birthday until he became 54 years
of age it was 6, the day of the month, affecting
him mostly; after his 54th year until he became
81 he experienced 17 outstanding, because this
number is the addition of the year 1907, the year
of his birth; after his 81st birthday Mr Mc
Donald will find 24 the principal number since
it is the total of his birth path which is 1 plus 6
plus 17. We need to remember this because this
information will enable us to calculate along the
path of the current of destiny that we will dis
cuss later.
THE BIRTH DATE IN RELATION TO YOUR ADDRESS
AND TELEPHONE NUMBER
We should bear in mind that the date of the
month of one’s birth is most important for indi
vidual or personal matters. In determining
whether the number of our address or telephone
T H E D E S T IN Y N U M B E R A N D B IR T H PATH 69
number is fortunate or unfortunate the date of
the month of one’s birth is involved. McDonald
is born January 6. The number of the street
called “ Broadway” is 1400. 14 plus 6 equals 20
which means:
Called “ the awakening,” also “ the judgment” ; the
awakening of new plans, new purposes . . . doubtful
as far as worldly success is concerned. As for the fu
ture there is indication of delays, hindrances to plans
and obstacles . . .
When we examine Broadway, the name of the
street, we find it means this:
Mind 7 1 1 9
BROADWAY
Personality 2 2 4 6 1 IS
Full vibratory number of street 24
Mr McDonald’s state of mind as “ R. W. Mc
Donald,” his name of adoption, being 8, his
relationship with this street would be 8 plus 9 or
17, which means:
A very spiritual number . . . Reward of the right
eous . . . has risen superior in spirit to the trials and
difficulties of his life or his career . . . is considered
fortunate in relation to future events . . . deals with
things concrete in a wise manner. One finds equilib-
70 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
rium, power of intuition and expression of beauty
with 17.
Therefore we conclude that McDonald will no
doubt come to a great spiritual experience on
Broadway and he will succeed here only so far
as he follows the straight and narrow path. Sup
pose the street he lived on were Ninth Street.
It would not be written “ 9 Street” but “ Ninth
Street” ; not “ 2 Street” but “ Second Street.”
Each of these streets have vowels in their names;
the vowel of Ninth is г and the vowels of Second
are e and o. Therefore in our calculation we would
deal with these streets in the manner we did with
Broadway.
The telephone number of Mr McDonald is
Piedmont 046-W, but he dials it:
PI 046 W 32 plus 6 , the date of his birth,
8 1 7 4 6 6 or 32 equals 38, which carries this
meaning:
Sometimes brings quarrels, misunderstandings and
separations . . . Where there is harmony it increases
it but where there is discord it brings lies, deceit and
falsehood . . . considered unstable and therefore
should be watched especially when found in connec
tion with the future; a person with 47 must consider
it a danger sign to “ stop, look and listen.”
THE DESTINY NUMBER AND BIRTH PATH 71
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BIRTH DATE IN
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
In the previous lesson we discussed the mental
relationship between individuals. In this lesson
we have come to learn that the date of the month
of one’s birth is most important for individual
or personal matters. It is also most important in
the relationship between individuals and the
cities. Why? Because this vibration is unalter
able. The mental relationship that is based on
names can be altered. Therefore the mental
relationship is secondary but nevertheless very
important.
We learned that the mental relationship be
tween R. W. McDonald and his employee,
Walter A. Stanford, is 23. Now we find that
R. W. McDonald was born the same month and
year but on a different date of the month than
was Mr Stanford; McDonald was bom on the
6th, whereas Stanford was born on the 18th. And
the addition of McDonald’s 6 to Stanford’s 18
produces 24, which means:
. . . promises assistance and association of those of
rank and position with one’s plans; considered a for
tunate number . . .
72 N U M ERO LO G Y FOR E V ER Y B O D Y
It so happens that both men are born in the
period of the 8, which subject we will discuss in
the next lesson. But getting back to the subject
of our discussion—by adding the numbers of
development affecting these men (McDonald’s
39 plus Stanford’s 56) we obtain 95 that is the
combined force of the numbers of development
affecting both. And 95 added to 24, representing
the combined planetary vibration affecting their
personal matters, will produce 119 which, added
together, gives us 11, the meaning of which is:
Warns against hidden dangers, trial and treachery
from others; great difficulties to contend with.
Therefore, Mr McDonald, foreseeing this, can
arrange beforehand to safeguard himself. The
Quaballah points out the good and bad aspects
of all relationship, both in the unalterable and
alterable. It enables us to detect character better
than we did without it. It will prevent our con
versation with and meeting those who, though
ignorant of the fact themselves, would be instru
mental in doing both themselves and us possible
harm. In this way man can be saved much sorrow
and disappointment.
The birth path is related to the period of the

year in which we are born because we had first to
come to the period of the year before the birth
path could come into being. The next lesson
brings us to consider the subject:
“ The Nine Periods of the Year and Their
Relation to One Another.”
This subject is of great importance in the pro
phetic interpretation of the yearly cycle that we
will discuss later.
LESSON IV
The Nine Periods of the Year and
Their Relation to One Another
In t h is we have our real contact with
lesson
astrology. The chart on page 75 will acquaint
the student with the corresponding signs of the
zodiac to the nine periods of the year. I shall not
go into the subject of astrology in this lesson
but simply touch upon it where it directly affects
numerology, it being my policy to teach what
directly deals with the present study.
Out of a great amount of information written
about numerology I selected what I consider
“ the meat” of the matter; a working knowledge
that has resulted in my work:
“ Numerology Understood Demonstrably
in Five Lessons.”
“ The Nine Periods of the Year and Their
Relation to One Another” concerns the numer-
ologist as much as does the birth path, since
the month and day of the month enter into it.
The careful student cannot but help realize the

importance of every lesson in this course, since

Before the workmen in the assembly plant
can assemble the parts that will make a finished
product each part must be complete and per
fected in itself. So it is with our study. In our
discussion of the prophetic interpretation of the
yearly cycles and current of destiny this lesson
will play an important part.
The year is divided into nine periods and each
period includes one-and-one-third months ap
proximately. All things subject to birth come
into being in one of the nine periods. The relation
ship of people born in one period to another is
affected by their mental relationship as indicated
by an addition of the vowels of their names as
well as by the addition of the dates of their month
of birth. The following explanation is given for
each period of the year respectively:
P eriod N umber 1

M arch 2 i to A p ril 2 8 ; A ries, less strong
Represents “ the sun” and symbolizes the begin
ning; that by which all the rest of the other numbers

were created. The basis of all numbers being 1, this
number is the basis of all life. Number 1 means that
which is creative, individual and positive. Born in
this period, an individual has the underlying prin
ciple of being in his or her work that makes it
creative, inventive, strongly individual, definite in
views, but that person is also more or less obstinate
and determined in everything he or she undertakes.
All born within the positive aspect of Leo from
July 21 to August 20 and the less strong aspect of
Aries from March 21 to April 28 come under this
period and these people have qualities given to all
Number 1 people “ in a distinctly more marked de
gree.” These people are ambitious; they dislike being
restricted. Number 1 people always rise in their pro
fessions and occupations whatever they may be and
wherever they are, for it is their desire to become the
head of the businesses they are in. When they become
heads of departments they make themselves respected
and keep their authority over their subordinates.

they carry out their plans in their period. The d a y s

Number 2 people, although decidedly opposite in
their characters, nevertheless harmonize and make
good combinations. 2 people are by nature gentle.
They are also imaginative, artistic and romantic.
Though also inventive like Number 1 people, Num
ber 2 people are not as forceful in carrying out their
ideas, nor are they so strong physically. The qualities
of Number 2 people are more on the mental than on
the physical plane. Ordinarily 2 and 1 people vibrate
better than do 2 and 7 people, but with the exception
of the first period 2 and 7 people vibrate better than
does 2 with other periods. For further information
relative to this number see “ The Meaning of Num

numbers from 1 to 9. 3, 6 and 9 people are all sym
pathetic to one another. People born in this period
are most fortunate when they carry out their plans
in this period. The days of the week most fortunate are
Thursday, F rid ay and T uesday; Thursday is the most
important. And when a number making a 3 falls on
these days they are found to be especially good, such
as the 3rd, 12th, 21st or 30th and the next in order
comes numbers 6 and 9 such as the 6 th, 9th, 15th,
l 8 th, 24th or 27th. The period of Number 3 includes
February 19 to March 21, which is the negative of
Pisces, as well as from November 21 to December 21,
the positive of Sagittarius. Further explanation of the
third period can be found under Number 3 in the
chapter entitled “ The Meaning of Numbers.”

which is symbolized by Number 1. Number 4 people
are born between June 21 and July 21 , called the

as between July 22 to August 31, the positive of Leo.
The weekdays most fortunate are Saturday, Sunday,
and Number 4 people vibrate best with those born
in the periods of 2 and 8 . Further explanation of the
fourth period can be found under Number 4 in the
80 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
chapter entitled “ The Meaning of Numbers.” Except
in the cases of 4 and 8 , the concentration of one’s
number becomes useful and it increases its power.
People born in the same period are naturally sym
pathetic one to another. This sympathetic relation
ship is such that the other individual in the same
period he is talking to is “ one of themselves” as it
were; a sentiment when radiating outward destroys
nervousness and causes a vibration that produces
harmony from one to another. 4 and 8 persons should
avoid all numbers making an 8 or 4 as much as
possible. They should avoid living in houses that have
such numbers and not choose dates that make them
such as 4, 8 , 13, 17, 22 , 26 and 31. Therefore 4 and 8
people should never increase the power of these
numbers. With them there is an exception to the
general rule for people born under other numbers;
they should do the opposite. The birth path is un
alterable but the name can be altered to produce a
number of a more fortunate vibration, such as 1, 3,
5 or 6 and then follow the strong number found in the
name of adoption and think of themselves as that
number, doing everything important on dates that
make that number, and so by doing this persistently
Number 4 and Number 8 people will get away from
the misfortune they generally experience. They will
then become as equally fortunate as others. And it is
when the combinations of 4, such as 4, 13, 22 and 31,
THE NINE PERIODS OF THE YEAR 81
and of 8 , such as 8 , 17, 26, 35 and 44, continually
come before them that steps should be taken to avoid
these numbers. 4 man, marrying an 8 woman, will
find her bringing him sadness, misfortune or terrible
blows of fate. 4 and 8 people as a rule attract each
other and show the highest devotion during illness
and misfortune. It is said that some of the greatest
sacrifices of self have been made when people born in
the period of the 4 and those born in the 8 period
marry or make a combination together. In a previous
lesson we read the fate of “ Crippen ” who represents a
combination of 4 and 8 . If there ever was a child of
fate he was one. 4 is like 8 in this respect. Like 8 ,
people born in this period are “ marked people”
wherever they go.

(Explanation is further given under Number 7 in the

are told that, generally speaking, Number 7 people
are not so fortunate in money matters as those bom
TH E NINE PERIODS OF THE YEAR 83
under other numbers, although the women whose
number is 7 often marry well. The subject on the
tarot card of 7 is “ The Chariot.” A conqueror drives
the chariot. Having overcome elementary forces, he
now shows forth great magnetic power. By this
magnetic power he is triumphant over both the
mentality and science. He is also referred to as the
“ Victor in the Chariot” ; “ The Cherub's Fiery
Sword.” One meaning drawn from this symbolical
picture is that fame, honor, victory, good reputation
is suggested. Dr Wynn Wescott is credited with the
following: “ After birth the 7th hour decides whether
the child will live; in 7 days the cord falls off; in
twice 7 days the eyes follow a light; thrice 7 days,
turns the head; 7 months, gets teeth; twice 7 months,
sits firmly; thrice 7 months, begins to talk; four times
7 months, walks strongly.” It is said that in the most
ancient rules of occult philosophy 7 is the only num
ber that can divide the number of eternity and
continue in itself as long as the number representing
eternity lasts and produces the basic number on
which is built all materialistic calculations, the de
pendence of all human beings and the entire structure
of human thought finds its expression. And so we
divide number 1 that represents the Father of all
which is with His eternity symbol 0 by the mystic 7,
the number of completeness. We may add as many
zeros as we like and go on and on, but we can only
84 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
obtain the sacred number 142,857. This number when
added gives us 27, the “ path wherein is created the
mighty intellect of all created things” mentioned in
Sepher Yetzirah, and by adding 2 and 7 we obtain 9,
which is the only number that when multiplied by
any number always reproduces itself.

The most important days are Satu rday, Su n day an d
M onday. (Explanation is further given under Num
ber 8 in the chapter entitled “ The Meaning of
Numbers.” ) Saturday is the most important day of
the three. (See also advice given under Period Num
ber 4 for people born within Periods 4 and 8.) Saturn
is called the Planet of Fate and from earliest ages it,
represented by number 8, with two circles or two
worlds—the spiritual and the material—has brought
into the experience of men and nations the hand of
fate. According to Kozminsky the ancient Greeks
who considered 8 a peculiar number regarded it as
having great power and claimed that all things are 8.
In Lesson One—“ The Meaning of Numbers”—the
THE NINE PERIODS OF THE YEAR 85
reader will find only eight numbers given in the trans
lation of the alphabet. The 8th path is called the Path
of Perfection. Another interesting thing to know
about this number is that it has been held by the
ancients to be the “ Gate of Eternity” because it
succeeds 7.

that is Tuesday. (Explanation is further given under
Number 9 in the chapter entitled “ The Meaning of
Numbers.” ) This number 9 is the only number in cal
culation that multiplied by any number always repro
duces itself. 9 is considered a fortunate period of the
year to be born into so long as the individual is not
carried away by the excesses of temper and violence
that this number is the symbol of. 9 is the path of
pure intelligence. One writer says, “ As a house num
ber it is not considered fortunate.” Possibly, but I
have not proven it so.
Both Mr McDonald and Mr Stanford were
born in the month of January. Mr McDonald
was born on January 6 and Mr Stanford was

born January 18. They were therefore born in
the period of 8 , a number that represents irrevo
cable Fate that would affect the lives of both.
They should therefore avoid business consul
tation of an important nature the 8 th, 17th and
26th of any month, especially during the period
of 8 .
LESSON V
Prophetic Interpretation of the Yearly
Cycles and Current of Destiny
In t h is we have reached the assembly
lesson
plant with our completed parts, as it were, and
are now ready for the finished product of our
course. These parts are the four lessons:
(a) The Meaning of Numbers
(b) Psychoanalysis by Numbers
(c) The Destiny Number and Birth
Path
(d) The Nine Periods of the Year and
Their Relation to One Another.
And now we shall discuss “ Prophetic Interpre
tation of the Yearly Cycle and Current of
Destiny.”
Man’s earthly experience is similar to the rise
and fall of grain that one can determine yearly
or semiannually by reading a chart or graph.
There comes a time when he reaches the peak of
his prosperity; then again he drops to the lowest
level of his misfortune.
87
88 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
There is a current of destiny for every man
and nation. It brings misfortune and defeat until
the man or nation accomplishes by learning what
was intended to be learned when the individual
or nation came into being. The current of destiny
starts at the moment of birth, and its turning
points are at the beginning of grand cycles that
cover a number of years from one grand cycle
to another. As an example we will discuss the
current of destiny of Robert Wilson McDonald,
born January 6 , 1907. You will recall that I said,
“ The number of the year, which is the number
of the current of destiny, is for matters affecting
the current of destiny.” Also concerning the
number of the month I said this: “ This number
is useful as far as general matters, and from birth
until the 27th birthday the digit of the month
is most powerful.” During the month of January,
the 1st month, Mr McDonald was born; there
fore Number 1 was the most powerful number
affecting him from birth until he reached his
27th birthday, a number which means:
Creative, strongly individual, the beginning, posi
tive, definite in views, inventive, determined, obsti
nate, ambitious, dislikes restraint.
TH E YEA RLY CYCLES 89

before interpreting them.

By adding McDonald’s year of birth we obtain
17 which indicates the number of years between
90 N U M ERO LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
birth and the beginning of a new cycle in his life.
17, the number of years covering the first grand
cycle, added to Number 1, which is the most
powerful number affecting Mr McDonald the
first 27 years of his life, we obtain the number of
his experience, 18. Therefore, from birth until at
least the beginning of his new grand cycle of life,
Mr McDonald experienced the following:
Symbolizes the materialism of the world warring
against the spiritual side of man’s nature. 18 is gener
ally associated with bitter quarrels, even family ones;
also with war, social strife and revolt . . . warning of
treachery, deception by others. 18 warns of danger
from storms, water, fires and explosions. . . .
Born in the period of Saturn, Period Number 8 ,
since January is included in that period, he also
experiences (17 plus 8 ) another number, 25,
which means:
Safe on water and considered a good swimmer . . .
strongly intuitive; gives prophetic dreams or second
sigh t. . . finds solace in nature . . . strength obtained
through observation of people and things . . . strife
and trials in the earlier life , . .
Mr McDonald informs us that for the first 27
years his signature was his full name, “ Robert
THE YEARLY CYCLES 91
Wilson McDonald,” which shows a total of 28
for the vowels of his name, personality number
SO and a destiny number of 78. The vowels of the
name indicating his state of mind coming to 28
plus 17, the number of years covering the first
grand cycle, equals 45, the number of McDonald’s
mental experience the first 17 years of his life,
which means:
45 loves to teach and serve as well as help others;
it punishes wickedness, lifts the fallen and the dis
tressed; indicates preparedness against emergencies
rather than the passive resistance. . . . 45 is the num
ber of early marriage, children and activities con
nected with groups and organizations . . .
It would be safe in saying that McDonald, the
early part of his life, was inclined to think of
marriage a great deal and that he was fond of
company; was a joiner of clubs, etc.; was philan
thropic. His personality number being SO, added
to 17, which is the number of years covering the
first grand cycle, we find the number of im
pression he made on others during this time, 67
(having no 67, we add again and obtain 13):
. . . the unknown or unexpected . . . change of plans,
place . . .
92 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
McDonald’s destiny number, 78 (the full vibra
tory number of his name), added to 17, the num
ber of years covering the first grand cycle, gives
us an addition of 95; added again we obtain 14,
which brought him this experience in his youth:
The number of everlasting movement and com
bination of sexuality, revolution, motion, energy, in
decision, temperance, trial and dangers from the
natural forces, of ignorance and forgetfulness . . .
combination of people and things . . . fortunate for
dealing with money, speculation and changes in busi
ness, but the great risk and danger attached to it
comes from the action and foolhardiness of others.. . .
Having reached the beginning of a new cycle
in his life in 1924 (the addition of the number of
years covering the first grand cycle to the year
beginning it and which it is an addition of), we
add this year again and obtain 16 for the number
of years covering the second grand cycle of his
life. (1 plus 9 plus 2 plus 4 equals 16.) Now we
shall proceed to learn McDonald’s experiences
during this new period. 16 plus 1 , which is the
most powerful number affecting man the first
27 years of life, equals 17, a number of experience:
. . . peace and love; the person representing 17 has
risen superior in spirit to the trials and difficulties of
THE YEARLY CYCLES 93
his life or his career . . . 17 is the number of executive
ability and utility and carries the power of financial
success. 17 deals with things concrete in a wise man
ner. One finds equilibrium, power of intuition and
expression of beauty with 17.
8, the number of the period of the year of his
birth, plus 16, the number of years covering the
second grand cycle of his life, we obtain 24, the
number of another experience during this second
cycle :
Gains through the opposite sex; warns against
danger from falls, especially from a horse; promises
assistance and association of those of rank and posi
tion with one’s plans; considered a fortunate number;
gain through influential women.
Next we add his state-of-mind number, 28, to
the number of years of the second cycle, 16, and
obtain 44, the number of his mental experience
during this second cycle. Following this, we deal
with his personality number and destiny number
as we did in the previous cycle, etc., until Mc
Donald has reached his 27th year, when the
leading number changes from the number of the
month of birth to the day of birth (day of the
month of birth).
94 N U M ERO LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
In 1934 Mr McDonald reached his 27th birth
day, although the third cycle for him did not
begin until 1940, but from 1934 until 1940 he is
affected by his day of birth, 6 , since he was born
January 6 , and not by the month number affect
ing him until 1934. Therefore 17 would be his
experience (16, the number of years covering the
second grand cycle of his life, plus 1 , the number
of the month of his birth) until 1934; from then
on until 1940 his experience would be (16, the
number of years covering the second grand cycle
of his life, plus 6 ) a 2 2 :
Warns of illusions and delusions; a good person
living in a fool’s paradise and dreaming, but awakens
only when surrounded by danger; false judgment be
cause of the influence of others.
Otherwise there would be no other change until
1940, the beginning of a third cycle lasting (1 plus
9 plus 4 plus 0 equals 14) 14 years, when he will
experience the following:
14 years of the 3rd cycle plus 6, the day of birth 20
14 years of the 3rd cycle plus 8, period of birth 22
14 years of the 3rd cycle plus 8, number of state
of mind of R. W. McDonald since his 27th
birthday when he changed the spelling or
form of sign ature............................................ 22
THE YEARLY CYCLES 95
14 years of the 3rd cycle plus 31, number of per
sonality of newly adopted signature of R.
W. McDonald........................................ 45
14 years of the 3rd cycle plus 39, number of de
velopment or number of name of adoption
of R. W. McDonald........................................ 53
20, 22, 45 and 53 are the numbers of R. W. Mc
Donald’s experience throughout the 14 years of
the 3rd cycle of his life.
In 1961 Mr McDonald will reach his 54th
year, seven years after the beginning of the
fourth grand cycle of his destiny. 1954, the
beginning of his new cycle, added, gives us 19,
and 19 added to the number of the day of birth
which influences him most until he reaches his
54th year, 6 , gives us 25. 25 is a number of his
experience until 1961 when another number,
the addition of the digits of the year, 17, takes
the place of 6 , the number of his day of birth,
although this 19-year cycle will not change until
1973. In 1988 again he has a change of influence
from his birth path. At this time he comes to
his 81st year when the entire birth-path rules
for him (January, 1 plus 6 plus 17 or 24) instead
of the number of the year of his birth. Otherwise
the other numbers of his experience remain the
96 N U M ER O LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
same, except possibly a change in the name
vibration.
Born in 1901, the writer does not remember at
present what event transpired in 1912 (1901
equals 11 plus 1901 equals 1912) but 1912 added
once more brings 13 and 13 plus 1912 equals
1925 which was the year his mother died. 1925
added together produce 17, which, when added
to 1925, gives 1942, the next important year in
the life of the writer. Cheiro says:
The year number totaled and added to itself in
dicates an important year in the destiny.
And to illustrate he gives us a sketch from French
history:

THE YEARLY CYCLE
Let us now consider the yearly cycle that
changes annually. Every vibration is brought to
play in our prophetic interpretation of the yearly
cycle. They are
(a) Number affecting personal or individual
matters; the day of birth......................... 6
(b) Number affecting general matters; the
month of birth.......................................... 1
(c) Number of the period of birth.................... 8
(d) Number affecting what man came into the
world to do; the full birth-path number 24
(e) Number of the adopted nam e.................... 39
(f) Number of the mental vibration................ 8
(g) Number of the personality; the impression
made on others as indicated in the con
sonants .................................................... 31
R. W. McDonald not only takes inventory of the
firm where he is superintendent but he stops to
consider numerically his prospects for the coming

year—1940. This year, when added, gives us 14
(1 plus 9 plus 4 plus 0 equals 14), the number of
the year to be added to all the above vibrations.
(a)
6 plus 14 equals 20, affecting personal affairs
(b)
1 plus 14 equals 15, affecting general affairs
(c)
8 plus 14 equals 22, affecting period of birth
(d)
24 plus 14 equals 38, affecting what man came
to do
(e) 39 plus 14 equals 53, affecting the name (full
vibratory force)
(f) 8 plus Oakland’s mental vibration, 9, equals 17
plus 14, the year number, equals 31, affect
ing mental vibration
(g) 31 plus 14 equals 45, affecting personality.
We summarize the above as follows:
McDonald’s personal affairs will be affected by an
awakening of new plans, new purposes, new ambi
tions, the call to action for some great purpose, cause
or duty, but doubtful as far as worldly success is con
cerned. As for the future, there is indication of delays,
hindrances to plans and obstacles which he can only
conquer through the spiritual development of his
nature.
In general Mr McDonald shows himself creative,
strongly individual, positive, definite in views, in
ventive, ambitious, determined, at times obstinate,
THE YEARLY CYCLES 99
and dislikes restraint. Because of the period of his
birth he is affected this year with false judgment ow
ing to other people’s influence. He is warned of illu
sions and delusions; a good person living in a fool’s
paradise and dreaming, but awakens only when sur
rounded by danger. McDonald needs to guard against
becoming quarrelsome. Where there is harmony the
vibration with him increases it, but where there is
discord it brings lies, deceit and falsehood. He needs
to be careful of his nerves since 38 affects his birth
path this year and he therefore should meet a situa
tion in a positive spirit.
Through the name Mr McDonald is affected in
1940 as follows: He is given to details and the vibra
tion affecting him makes him a good detective, but he
needs to watch lest he descend to racketeering, spying
and using powers for leadership for bad ends. He is
rather severe in temperament; likes authority. Is set
in his ways. But the impression he makes on others is
that he likes to punish wickedness and lift the fallen
and the distressed. He shows preparedness against
emergencies and interest in groups and organizations,
although in his mind he feels lonely and distant.
He wishes also to know how he vibrates monthly
so he adds the number affecting his personal or
individual matters (6 ) to the respective months
and finds the leading vibration affecting him
100 N U M ER O LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
from month to month. 6 plus the first month
equals 7; 6 plus the second month equals 8 , etc.
His experience in January being 7, it would be
the following:
. . . very independent. . . loves change and travel;
restless . . . has good ideas about business but seldom
carries them out.
Finally McDonald decides to know what days
of the month would be most favorable in busi
ness. Since his signature is well established with
the firm, 39, he can include it in his calculation.
Therefore he adds it to the number affecting his
personal or individual matters, 6 , which equals
45, or 9, and combines this number with every
date of the month 1 , 2, 3,4, 5, 6 , 7, 8 , etc. 9 plus
1 equals 10. Octave 10 indicates a good vibration
and he can therefore consider the 1 st of any
month a good day. He matches 9 and 2 but finds
1 1 a bad vibration for business, so he disregards
the 2 nd and lists it among the bad days of any
month and follows this procedure throughout
the month.
Looking over the period of Number 8 in which
he was born, Mr McDonald learns that his most
fortunate weekdays are Saturday, Sunday and
Monday, but wishing to escape the harmful
TH E YEARLY CYCLES 101
influence of Number 8 , he chooses rather the days
favorable in period Number 6 , since 6 affects him
as a number dealing with his personal or indi
vidual matters, and he finds these days to be
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

This hereditary prince, former Prince of Wales
and King Edward VIII but now the Duke of
Windsor, has 51 for his birth-path number—
105
106 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
“ the expression o f the ego he brings to this
incarnation” (see quotation from M ary Adams
on page thirty-three o f this w ork); the meaning
o f which is as follows:
51 has the spirit of the warrior; especially favorable
for army or navy life; leader in any cause; promises
advancement in all undertakings; very powerful; 51
walks successfully and untroubled in trouble’s midst,
subduing his inward fears; at the same time smiles
and talks cheerfully. It is a number that threatens
assassination. 51 promises advancement in all under
takings.
It is known that Edward has “ the spirit o f the
w arrior” ; he m anifested it as king with the prime
minister. He has always had a mind o f his own.
It is “ especially favorable” for him in the army.
During the World War (1914-18) the prince
was Prince of Wales and heir to the British
throne; therefore he was a leader in the cause.
T oday in Great Britain’s second war with Ger
many he is advanced from m ajor general to
lieutenant general in the British army, and he is
still a leader in the cause he upholds as well as
another evidence of “ advancement in all under
takings.” He has great equilibrium, for he “ walks
successfully and untroubled in trouble’s midst,
J

subduing his inward fears; at the same time
smiles and talks cheerfully.” During the last
World War Edward was found by those who
considered themselves responsible for his safety
in dangerous places endangering his life. When
this was brought to his'attention his answer was,
“ If I should die I have brothers to succeed me.”
During his short reign it will be remembered an
attempt was made on his life.
Edward is a member of the royal House of
Windsor, but to it he is thought of as “ David.”
House of Windsor carries a mental vibration of
33 which means:
Steady, reliable, but not particularly a power for
either good or evil; best for reliable, regular, con
servative business; shows a strong desire to protect
others; preference is shown for the quiet of the coun
try rather than city life. The person with this number
is dignified, considerate and discriminating. . . .
The royal family is known for its fidelity to one
another; especially was this shown while Edward
was passing through his crisis because of the
woman he loved. Probably no other nation has
more respect for its reigning house than does
Great Britain, a house that truly mentally vi
brates a 33 and therefore a worthy symbol of

unity that it represents. The impression made
on others is 36, the meaning of which is:
. . . this number brings good influence; it brings
authority, power and success to all using their talents
rightly; generous, kind, sympathetic; calls for service
of others; easily upset; has many ups and downs.
Only since the World War has the royal family
been called the House of Windsor, but since it
has adopted this name it cannot be denied that
the above is true with respect to the impression
it has made. The experience it had during the
reign of King Edward VIII shows the latter part
of 36 to be as true as the beginning. The full
vibratory force of this name is 69, the meaning
of which is:
This number is called “ The Crown of M ars” and is
one of fortune, honor and fame.
As “ David” the Duke of Windsor is 2:
Gentle by nature, imaginative, artistic and roman
tic . . . is restless and unsettled; lack of continuity in
plans and ideas; lack of self-confidence; oversensitive;
is easily despondent; melancholy if not in happy
surroundings.
And he manifests a 14 to those who call him by
this name:
I
LIVING EXAMPLES 109

bination of sexuality, revolution, motion, energy,
indecision, temperance, trial and dangers from the
natural forces, of ignorance and forgetfulness . . .
fortunate for dealing with money, speculation and
changes in business, but the great risk and danger
attached to it comes from the action and foolhardi
ness of others . . . regeneration and advancement to
something higher than the mere physical . . .
Edward’s date of birth is in the seventh period
of the year and therefore his most fortunate days
of the week are Sunday and Monday. Although
he is born with other vibrations favorable fi
nancially, yet the period of the year of his birth,
according to Cheiro, does not offer so much fi
nancially. He says, “ As a class they are not as
a rule so lucky in money matters as people born
under the other numbers.” People born at this
period o f the year are:
Associated with water; owners or captains of ships;
very independent, original and have strongly marked
individualities. They love change and travel; are
restless; would, if they could, visit foreign countries;
very much interested in the affairs of far-off lands;
like books on travel; have great amount of knowledge
of the world at large; often make extremely good
110 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
writers, painters or poets but sooner or later show in
all undertakings a peculiar philosophical outlook on
life; have peculiar religious ideas; dislike to follow the
beaten path; are dreamers; intuitive, clairvoyant;
peculiar magnetism over others; have good ideas
about business but seldom carry them out.
Possibly no king before Edward or since his
abdication ever traveled so extensively to far-off
lands by sea as did he. By the changes he made
during his short reign it showed he “ dislikes to
follow the beaten path.”
Born in the sixth month, Edward was affected
by the 6 the first twenty-seven years of his life,
the meaning of which is:
This number makes more friends than any other
except 5. 6 loves beautiful things; makes artistic
homes; admires paintings, statuary, rich colors and is
fond of music. The wealthy who vibrate with 6 are
very generous to art and artists; they find pleasure in
entertaining their friends and desire to make all about
them happy, but they cannot tolerate jealousy and
discord. The angry 6 will die fighting for whatever
cause he upholds and will brook no opposition. 6 is
considered extremely magnetic and can attract others;
is loved and often worshiped by those subordinate
to him, but 6 is very determined in carrying out
LIVING EXAMPLES 111
plans; at times 6 is obstinate and unyielding unless 6
becomes deeply attached; then no slave could be more
devoted.
Another thing I have especially noticed with 6;
its possessor manifests good health. Edward un
doubtedly experienced good health the first
twenty-seven years of his life. Those acquainted
with him while he was Prince of Wales will
readily recognize how well the foregoing relates
to him. It was during this period of his life that
he first met his wife, Wallis Warfield, the present
Duchess of Windsor, and it is widely known to
what extent Edward went for the woman he
loved. It cannot be denied that he made many
friends at this time and that he was fond of
pleasure, fond of entertaining friends, and that
he desired to make all about him happy. It is
also known how magnetic he was, attracting
others to him, but that he was very determined
in carrying out his plans, obstinate and unyield
ing.
The first 22 years of his life show Edward
losing through trust in others a great deal, but in
1916 there came to him the first turning point
of his life, between the ages of 22 and 23. In 1916
he received from men in high places great recog

nition. They saw in him what this change of cycle
brought him in 1916, i.e., 23:
Cleverness and quick brain; learns easily; is daring;
gifted in speech and writing. (17 plus 6th month = 23.)
And they were willing to aid him in the great task
of preparation for the kingly office. An ex
ceptional high peak of recognition lasted from
1916 to 1921.
After 1921 Edward was 27 years of age, and
the day of his birth took the lead in his life until
he shall attain the age of 54. In 1933 another
change of cycle took place. From 1921 until 1933
Edward was affected by Number 40. There is
indication that he became more careful and
specialized in methodical living and that he
showed signs of being less obstinate and of taking
things more easily. 1933 found his personal and
individual matters better affected in the south
west.
The Prince of Wales became King Edward
VIII of Great Britain and his dominions across
the seas January 20, 1936. That year added
together comes to 19, and 19 plus 23, that now
affects him most in all individual and personal
matters, adds to 42, which means:
LIVING EXAMPLES 113
Strongly religious and leans toward the ministry;
consecrated in helping others; follows professional
work . . . The bad aspect is baseness and treachery.
Becoming official head of the Church of England,
Edward had much to do with the Archbishop of
Canterbury and other prelates, and after becom
ing king his first radio address carried with it the
tone that he had “ consecrated himself in helping
others” and he did “ follow professional work.”
We all know the opposition he encountered with
the prime minister, archbishop and lords. Much
we never heard; possibly sometime we shall.
The period of the year of his birth affected him
in 1936, a 26 (19 plus 7 equals 26):
Unsuccessful partnerships . . . treachery and evil;
foreshadowing disasters brought about by association
with others; ruin by bad speculations, by partner
ships, unions and bad advice. Therefore it is advisable
to watch the path one is treading in the future.
With this to combat abdication was inevitable,
and he was succeeded by his brother, the Duke of
York, December 18, 1936.
This year, 1940, ought to be an especially good
year for Edward. (14 plus 23 equals 37; 14 plus 7
equals 21; 14 plus 51 equals 65.)
114 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
37—Good and fortunate friendships in love and in
combinations connected with the opposite sex; also a
good number for partnerships of all kinds; in con
nection with the future it is most fortunate.
21—Denotes elevation in life and general success;
victory after a long fight; the number o f . . . success;
21 means power, individuality, advancement, honor,
general fortune; especially fortunate when found in
connection with future events; 21 represents super
victory—the supreme success of the human soul—
the union of wisdom and love at the end of a path of
human effort realizing perfection and task well done;
considered one of the most mystic of numbers that
represents the supreme goal toward which all work.
65—This number is considered “ holy.” It is said
to give powerful patrons and a happy marriage, but
it is also a number of hurts and dangers.
The Duke of Windsor is a title that carries
with it 4 31 state of mental vibration, 43 person
ality and a full vibratory force in his title of 74.
State of mental vibration (31):
Not fortunate from a material standpoint; often
selfish; self-contained; lonely and isolated from others.
Vibration of the personality (43):
In all aspects 43 is connected with military activi
ties, for it is symbolized by signs of revolution, up
heaval, strife, failure and prevention. For the future
LIVING EXAMPLES 115
it means possible upheavals, strife and failure of
plans; some danger from war and firearms, but vic
tory can be obtained only through positive action.
43 is considered an unfortunate number. It is sym
bolized as “ The Death Point.”
Since becoming Duke of Windsor Prince Edward
lived in Austria which has since been annexed to
Germany; a land that experienced much up
heaval. Edward, on behalf of his friend, Roths
child, interceded with Adolf Hitler, under whose
order this nobleman was taken into custody.
He took court action against a writer for libel.
He has constantly worked to have the British
government give recognition of the status of a
princess to his wife, the Duchess of Windsor,
who is not at present considered equal in rank
to him but is simply addressed “ Your Grace,”
while he is addressed “ Your Royal Highness.”
And he has been connected with “ military ac
tivities” since the beginning of hostilities. Of
course the foregoing affects him as the Duke of
Windsor as far as his personal impression on
those who think of and know him as such.
Vibratory force in full, 74 (74 added equals 11):
Warns against hidden dangers, trial and treachery
from others; great difficulties to contend with.

The number of the German leader’s birth path,
which indicates what he brought into the world,
is 50, the meaning of which is as follows:
It has been said of 50 that it “ need have no fear of
fierce animals or firearms and it is not marked for
untimely death, although death’s shadow may touch
him.” 50 lives a life of very intense and constant
activity that tends to great success and renown and
many occupations. 50 tends to bring people into pub
lic life, feasts, crowds, and makes its possessor elo
quent in speech; gives keen sight and hearing, mag
netism, clear brilliant eyes; brings power, leadership;
makes one a commander, dominating and dispensing
law, justice and order.
LIVING EXAMPLES 117
I think we can all agree that for the most part the
above has been fulfilled.
While serving the German Kaiser throughout
the World War Adolf Hitler was wounded in
1916. He was also gassed and temporarily blinded
in 1918. Indeed death’s shadow touched him,
yet he survived to prove that he “ is not marked
for untimely death, although death’s shadow
may touch him.”
Born at Braunau on the Inn, Upper Danube,
of an old Upper-Austrian peasant and artisan
family of the Catholic faith, Hitler received his
education in the “ secondary schools at Linz and
Graz, studied painting and architecture in
Vienna, settled at Munich in 1912 to study

Berchtesgaden, Bavaria.” Such is the account
given by Who’s Who—1939, published by The
Macmillan Company of New York and Adam
& Charles Black of London.
I think it is plainly seen that Adolf Hitler has
lived “ a life of very intense and constant activity
that tends to great success and renown and many
occupations” and that he has been brought
“ into public life, feasts, crowds” ; that he is
“ eloquent in speech” and given “ keen sight and
hearing, magnetism, clear brilliant eyes” ; nor
can we overlook the marked fulfillment of the
prediction that 50 brings him—“ power, leader
ship; makes one a commander, dominating and
dispensing law, justice and order.”
Hitler’s date of birth is in that period of the
year with the zodiacal sign of Aries less strongly
(see chart on page 75)—the sun (1). He is also
LIVING EXAMPLES 119
affected by the planetary influence of Venus (6)
with the zodiacal sign of Taurus, positive. He is
therefore a 1-6 man, embracing the influences
of two periods of the year, but since he is affected
with the 6 positively and with the 1 less strongly
it follows that Venus, the planet of 6, was the
most important at the time of his birth. The
most important days of the week when ruled
by Venus, or the period of the 6, are Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday, but since 1 or the sun
affects him less strongly we might say that Sun
day and Monday can be considered the next-best
days. Let me once more give the meaning of 6
that we may see how true it affects Hitler:
This number makes more friends than any other
except 5. 6 loves beautiful things; makes artistic
homes; admires paintings, statuary, rich colors, and
is fond of music.
6 is
considered extremely magnetic and can attract others;

shiped by those subordinate to them, but 6 is very
120 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
determined in carrying out plans; at times a 6 person
is obstinate and unyielding unless 6 becomes deeply
attached; then no slave can be more devoted.
Next we shall consider what less strongly affects
him, namely, 1, the number of the sun:
Number 1 means that which is creative, individual
and positive. Born in this period an individual has
the underlying principle of being in his or her work
that makes it creative, inventive, strongly individual,
definite in views, but that person is also more or less
obstinate and determined in everything he or she
undertakes. All born within the positive aspect of
Leo from July 21 to August 20 and the less strong
aspect of Aries from March 21 to April 28 come under
this period, and these people have qualities given to
all Number 1 people “ in a distinctly more marked
degree.” These people are ambitious; they dislike
being restricted. Number 1 people always rise in their
professions and occupations whatever they may be
and wherever they are, for it is their desire to become
the head of the business they are in. When they be
come heads of departments they make themselves
respected and keep their authority over their sub
ordinates . . .
It is said that although Number 1 is good it is
not understood properly by Number 6. With
LIVING EXAMPLES 121
the 1 and 6 coming together we cannot fail to
read the meaning of 16:
A number of weakness, subversion, accident, catas
trophes, earthquakes and explosions; the most de
structive vibration; defeat and danger; danger signal;
calls for caution; danger of defeat of plans; disap
pointments in love or marriage when found in one’s
birth path; warning of strange fatality. Symbol—the
shattered tower or citadel . . . man falling with a
crown on his head. Lightning has struck the tower—
“ ruin . . . after evil has prevailed.”
You will recall that Hitler’s birth-path number
carries this meaning:
“ Need have no fear o f . . . firearms and . . . is not
marked for untimely death, although death’s shadow
may touch him” . . .
What I have quoted for 16 does not contradict
50, but 16 does show that Adolf Hitler would
have brought to him “ disappointments in love
or marriage . . . and explosions” ; that “ some
strange fatality” awaits him and that there
will be danger of accidents and defeat of his
plans, for the symbol of 16 is the “ tower struck
by lightning from which a man is falling with a
crown on his head,” and it is called “ the shat
tered citadel.”
122 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
Mr Hitler was born in April, the fourth
month. The first twenty-seven years of his life
were affected by this number taking the lead in
his life, the meaning of which is:
4 indicates work accomplished through will, ex
perience, action and realization; is deliberate or cau
tious type; shows steadiness; inclined to view every
thing from an opposite angle to others which brings
opposition and secret enemies; 4 rebels against rules
and regulations and would reverse the order of things
even in communities and governments; attracted to
social questions and reforms of all kinds; very posi
tive and also highly strung and sensitive; easily
wounded in feelings; rather indifferent as to accumu
lation of wealth, but when acquired surprises others
by the way 4 employs it and the use 4 puts to it;
easily becomes despondent and melancholy; inclined
to feel lonely and isolated.
1915 and 1916 were the first changes of cycles
in Hitler’s life. The first 26 years he had also the
influence of 30, which means:
Belongs to the mental plane; therefore it is neither
fortunate nor unfortunate for either depends on the
mental outlook of the individual with this number;
it can be all-powerful but it is just as often indifferent;
it is likely to put all material things on one side—
LIVING EXAMPLES 123
not because it has to but because it wishes to do so;
it is strong or weak as it is used. This mental outlook
will raise the individual above the normal horizon and
is excellent for handling large affairs; indicates love
of theaters, dramatics, writing plays, love of music,
dramatic ability, loves children and animals; shows
skill as a physician or surgeon as 30 is connected with
drugs, chemistry, anatomy and medicine; 30 is free
and brilliant when used rightly; yet in the lowest
aspect it brings treachery and disloyalty.
The account given by Who’s Who in many
ways coincides with this finding. There we read
that before 1915 he “ studied painting and archi
tecture . . . supporting himself as artisan in build
ing trade.” A 30 vibration dealing with the
mental particularly would give him an artistic
trend of thought. He would have ability along
this line. I do not know the personal life of Mr
Hitler well enough to say whether or not every
thing I find for him coincides with the official
biography of his life, but I proceed according to
the fundamentals laid down in this system and
leave it with the reader to judge for himself.
1915 found Adolf Hitler in the German army
and wounded in 1916; 1915—the termination
of the first cycle of his life—and 1916—the
124 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
change affecting all persons who pass the 27th
year of age to come under the influence of the
day of birth. 1915 added comes to 16, and 16
plus 4, indicating the fourth month which is
the number of the birth path most affecting him
at that time, comes to 20.
Before proceeding let us consider the year
Hitler entered the army (1914). 1914, when
added, comes to 15, and 15 plus 4 equals 19,
which is a number having this meaning:
Fortunate and extremely favorable; promises hap
piness, success, esteem and honor and success in
planning for the future.
Possibly in 1914 was Hitler’s first step to the
fulfillment of 19 that he now experiences as head
of the German state. Now let us proceed with his
experience in 1915. 1915, when added, comes to
16 and, taking also into consideration the month
of his birth that affected him most, then our
addition comes to 20, which would be his ex
perience in 1915.
20, called “ the awakening,” also “ the judgment”
. . . the call to action for some great purpose, cause or
duty; doubtful as far as worldly success is concerned.
As for the future there is indication of delays, hin

drances to plans and obstacles which can only be
conquered through the spiritual side of man’s nature.
Undoubtedly this was a critical year for Hitler
in many ways. He seems to have been called
upon to seek God in Whose hand lies the destiny
of every living thing, to show him that “ man
does not live by bread alone but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Un
doubtedly he experienced great temptations of
the flesh at this time that caused him to need the
grace of God to carry him through. The next
year (1916) we find him passing from the month
to the day vibration and affected therefore by
20 taking the lead. What would happen between
1915 and 1916 must bring home an experience
that would awaken the spiritual side of man’s
nature. And we find him, at the beginning of
his change into a new cycle in 1916, wounded.
But he had not only the bitter cup given him.
A helpful influence was beginning to be felt also
at this time. (1916 adds to 17 plus 20 equals 37.)
Beginning in 1916 and lasting for a period of 27
years, until 1943, Hitler is affected by 37, a num
ber which means :
Good and fortunate friendships in love and in com
binations connected with the opposite sex; also a good
126 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
number for partnerships of all kinds; in connection
with the future it is most fortunate.
At this time Adolf Hitler must have attained
popularity among his fellows and with the faction
which he joined. Everything terminated not only
as a success then, but in connection with the
future it was most fortunate. Nevertheless, until
1943 the number 20 of judgment affects him
since the day of his birth (from 1916 until 1943)
took the lead in his life, affecting him in all
individual and personal matters. And we find
20 again vibrating negatively in 1918. 1918
added comes to 19, and 19 plus 20 equals 39,
which means:
. . . the lower aspect shows cruelty and suffering
. . . it can go to the lowest depths . . .
If he had lived in the southwest Hitler would
have escaped the lower aspect of 39. At that year
the record shows us that Hitler was gassed and
temporarily blinded. But he received the Iron
Cross which again brings out the meaning of 39,
but in its higher aspect:
Friendship and love.
After the German Revolution of 1918-19 it is
said that Hitler devoted himself to politics,
LIVING EXAMPLES 127
becoming president and leader of the National
Socialist German Workers’ Party. He therefore
experienced at this time both aspects of 39—at
the beginning the lower aspect; at the end the
higher:
But even as it can go to the lowest depths so it can
rise to the greatest heights.
Further on in the account we read that he was
sentenced to fortress detention until December
1924 for his part in the rising of November 9,
1923. 1923 added comes to 15, and 15 plus 20
•v equals 35, which includes this meaning:
. . . in ease may become cruel and tyrannical.
It so happens that the 9th day of November,
in fact the 9th day of any month, vibrates nega
tively for Hitler. 9 plus 20 equals 29, which
means:
Denotes uncertainties, treachery and deception of
others; foreshadows trials, tribulation and unexpected
dangers; unreliable friends; grief and deception caused
by members of the opposite sex; warning for future
events.
In January of 1933, the 30th, Adolf Hitler was
appointed by President Paul von Hindenburg
128 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
the chancellor of the German Reich. 1933 added
equals 16, and 16 plus 20 equals 36, the meaning
of which is :
. . . this number brings good influence; it brings
authority, power and success to all using their talents
rightly . . . calls for service of others . . .
The 30th of the month added to 20 equals 50
which is the number of Hitler’s birth path, which
means;
. . . tends to great success and renown and many
occupations. 50 tends to bring people into public life,
feasts, crowds, and makes its possessor eloquent in
speech . . . brings power, leadership; makes one a
commander, dominating and dispensing law, justice
and order.
What has 1940 in store for the Fiihrer ? 1940
added comes to 14 plus 20 equals 34—affecting
his personal and individual matters.
34 is connected with hidden and mysterious things;
it is intuitive and controls the occult; shows a retir
ing into its own mind; conventional, therefore sel
dom oversteps; gives a strong religious and spiritual
feeling.
LIVING EXAMPLES 129
It has been repeatedly said that Hitler is inclined
to follow the advice of astrologers. This shows a
leaning toward the occult. We know he has a
retreat in Bavaria. No doubt much time will be
spent by him along this line throughout the year.
Since Taurus (6) takes the lead in his period of
birth we find him awakening with new plans,
new purposes; a stronger determination than
ever, but there is indication of delays, hindrances
to his plans, and it is doubtful as far as worldly
success is concerned. Success for Adolf Hitler
in 1940 lies along the line of spiritual develop
ment. If he comes forward to the German people
with plans that show them beyond doubt that
he means to deal justly the indication is that he
will meet with a favorable response, but to use
an iron hand at this time would do himself
harm. It seems that his mental vibration with

Winston Churchill ( = 15 plus 14 = 29) would be
as the numbers imply—29, the meaning of which
is:
. . . uncertainties, treachery and deception of
others; foreshadows trials, tribulation and unexpected
dangers; unreliable friends . . . warning for future
events.

ADOLF H ITLER

The mental vibration being 14, the meaning is as
follows :
The number of everlasting movement and com
bination of sexuality, revolution, motion, energy, in
decision, temperance, trial and dangers from the
natural forces, of ignorance and forgetfulness; a num
ber that must act with prudence and the possessor
must use caution, since as a rule owing to others’ fool
hardiness, the action of others, the possessor of 14
seems open to risk and danger. . . . 14 brings a com
bination of people and things, and if the possessor of
14 acts with caution and prudence he or she can be
fortunate for dealing with money, speculation and
changes in business. 14 is the number of regeneration
and advancement to something higher than the mere
physical; this number is sex raised to enthusiasm,
affection, love and devotion, or, according to the
lower aspect of 14, it is degraded to lust, passion and
gratifications. 14 profits from aims pure and high
followed persistently.
LIVING EXA M PLES 131
The personal impression, 29:
Denotes uncertainties, treachery and deception of
others; foreshadows trials, tribulation and unexpected
dangers; unreliable friends; grief and deception caused
by members of the opposite sex; warning for future
events.
Full vibratory force of name, 43:
In all aspects 43 is connected with military activi
ties, for it is symbolized by . . . revolution, upheaval,
strife, failure and prevention. For the future it means
possible upheavals, strife and failure of plans; victory
can be obtained only through positive action. 43 is
considered an unfortunate number. It is symbolized
as “ The Death Point.”
Summary:
When we consider the present events in Europe
we cannot overlook the vibratory numbers of
Adolf Hitler. He has a different man to deal with
in Winston Churchill than he had with Neville
Chamberlain, who vibrated with him a 33. Mr
Churchill has a strong personal magnetism. It
is easy for him to obtain favors from others. By
Hitler’s acts it is evident that he senses strongly
his full vibratory number, 43—“ victory can be
obtained only through positive action.” There
132 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
is no delay with him. He senses strongly a call
from the “ voice within” to rise above the mere
physical and he does crave affection, love and
devotion that he seems never really to have
satisfied. A partner in life that could win the
confidence of Hitler and become the center of
his affections would be able to change the course
of his life. When he becomes discouraged over
what little he feels he has gotten out of life he
slips back to the lower and becomes a victim of
those who would use him to carry out their evil
designs. His mind is a combination of sexuality,
revolution, energy, indecision, temperance, igno
rance and forgetfulness. And 1940 does not offer
him much to incline him mentally. 1940 added is
14 plus 14 mental vibration equals 28:
Full of contradictions; a person of great promise
and possibilities likely to see all taken away unless he
carefully provides for the future . .. loss through trust
in others . . .
There is a possibility of another ready to step in
his place and weaken his position, for this year
shows that personally he might lose through trust
in others, although this loss of personal position
might not affect his nation so long as his party
remained in power.
LIVING EXAMPLES 133
With a 29 personal impression Adolf Hitler
can hardly possess a personality that is charming.
29 is an unstable number, and with a full vibra
tory force of 43 we have a man at home in his
present position. As long as he remains in power
we must expect him engaged in some form of
military activities continually.
Born on the 20th, Adolf Hitler this year draws
a 34 vibration:
This number is connected with hidden and mysteri
ous things; it is intuitive and controls the occult . . .
But we must take this in connection with his
28 mental vibration for 1940. Ordinarily he
would not experience a good mental vibration
with 28 this year, but when we consider that 34
has to do with his personal affairs through the
unalterable birth path it follows that we must
expect strange things we would not ordinarily
expect. Surely he is a man of destiny.

The number of Mr Roosevelt’s birth path is
the same as that of Adolf Hitler—50. At the
beginning of his first term of office the President
had an attempt made upon his life, yet no harm
came to him; until now he has survived many
threats. Prognosticators have put forward pre
dictions that his life will end at the hands of an
assassin, but I see no such fate for Mr Roosevelt.
He “ is not marked for untimely death, although
death’s shadow may touch him.” It is also true
that he “ lives a life of very intense and constant
activity that tends to great success and renown
LIVING EXAMPLES 135
and many occupations.” It is a fact that he has
been brought “ into public life, feasts, crowds”
and that he is “ eloquent in speech.” He is men
tally alert, magnetic. We know it to be true that
he exercises “ power, leadership,” and that he is
unquestionably “ a commander, dominating and
dispensing law, justice and order.”
The President was bom in the eighth period—
negative, called in astrology the sign of Aquarius
with the planetary influence of Saturn. His
important days are Saturday, Sunday and Mon
day. Saturday is the most important day for him
of the three.
It is well to remember here what I stated under
Period Number 8:
Saturn is called the Planet of Fate and from earliest
ages it, represented by number 8, with two circles or
two worlds—the spiritual and the material—has
brought into the experience of men and nations the
hand of fate.
It cannot be denied that Mr Roosevelt came into
office at one of the most critical times in the
history of our country. And I might add here
that he, being the 32nd President, finds it a
coincidence that the number of the birth path
of the United States is 32 also. (July 4, 1776
136 N U M ER O LO G Y FOR E V E R Y B O D Y
equals 32—7 plus 4 plus 21). As 32nd President
he is true to his number, for 32 means:
32 is magical and associated usually with combina
tions of people or nations; most fortunate when it
holds to its own judgment and opinions, else plans
are likely to become wrecked by other people’s stu
pidity and stubborness; 32 is usually a messenger of
good luck in connection with future events; 32 brings
many friends, social and business connections; can
easily turn from one subject to another; a number of
action; 32 gives easy speech and quick mastery of
foreign languages; its bad aspects indicate loose mor
als and lack of spirituality.
I believe this gives a pretty fair description of
Mr Roosevelt’s experience as 32nd President.
When we consider the nation’s moral and spirit
ual status since he became president, from my
observation at least, I believe we will recognize
a great decline in this direction.
Reading over the meaning of 8, the reader will
see that:
8 is either a great success or great failure with no
happy medium; when ambitious 8 aims for public life
or governmental responsibility and holds often very
high positions that involve great sacrifice but, often
misunderstood, feels very lonely at heart. . . . 8 is
LIVING EXAMPLES 137
faithful and will stand for what it believes to be right
regardless of opposition. 8 is a number that can give
an impression the opposite of what it really is. 8 has
feeling for the persecuted. It may appear cold but 8 is
really kindhearted. The higher aspect of 8 indicates
philosophic thought, religious devotion, concentration
of purpose, zeal for any cause espoused, but the lower
side represents upheaval, revolution, anarchy, way
wardness and all kinds of eccentricities.
It is to be understood that the number of the
period of one’s birth is modified or emphasized
by the numbers affecting one’s birth path and
the number of one’s signature. I think the fore
going fits pretty much into the experience of
Mr Roosevelt. His great battle against infantile
paralysis, and how he, in spite of this great
handicap, has risen to the highest office in the
land, is an indication of “ concentration of pur
pose.” We all know his zeal for the New Deal,
and, although it cannot be said the President
has gone to the extreme, he does show a leaning
toward the oppressed and a willingness to help
the underdog. He shows a tendency to keep pace
with modem times; is a liberal in his views, even
to his recognition of Soviet Russia and his aid
to repeal the prohibition amendment. In the
138 N U M ER O LO G Y FO R E V E R Y B O D Y
face of great difficulties Mr Roosevelt knows
how to hide his feelings and he allows people to
think what they will.
Mr Roosevelt professes the Christian faith
of the Protestant Episcopal persuasion. There is
every indication that he is sincere and has deep
reverence for God as Jesus Christ reveals Him.
His tendency is to lay more emphasis on a practi
cal faith that is valuable to society as a whole
by establishing a better understanding among
men than to concern himself with deep theo
logical matters. I believe that the President is
as ardent in his religious convictions as any man
can possibly be, but his convictions are not the
ordinary convictions of religionists.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Janu
ary, the first month; consequently, until his 27th
birthday, 1 was the leading number. He was:
Creative, strongly individual, positive, definite in
view, inventive, determined, obstinate, ambitious,
and disliked restraint.
From his 27th year to his 54th Mr Roosevelt was
affected for his leading number by 30. His mental
outlook was a determining factor in his life. Had
he not the courage and the will to press on in the
LIVING EXAMPLES 139
face of seemingly overwhelming odds in this
period of his life he never would have reached
the heights he has reached. In connection with
number 30 we read:
This mental outlook will raise the individual above
the normal horizon and is excellent for handling large
affairs.
Since 1936 Mr Roosevelt has had for his lead
ing number the number of the year of his birth,
1882, which, when added, comes to number 19,
and this number will lead him until his 81st year;
the meaning of 19 is:
Fortunate and extremely favorable; promises hap
piness, success, esteem and honor and success in
planning for the future.
Such is the favorable outlook for Mr Roosevelt
in a general sense in the years before him; a
marked contrast with what he experienced the
second 27 years of his life.
The first change of cycle ht opened when Mr
Roosevelt was 19 years of age (1901). Beginning
that year and continuing on for 8 years, there is
indication he had great anxiety and had been the
victim of others’ intrigue. Mr Roosevelt’s birth
path numbers 50 which, when added to the cur

rent year (1905 or 15), comes to 65, a number
which has this meaning:
It is said to give powerful patrons and a happy
marriage. . . .
In that year Franklin Delano Roosevelt and
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt were married. In 1907
he was admitted to the bar. 1907 added comes
to 17, plus 1, the number which affected him most
until he attained his 27th year, comes to 18. 18
has also this meaning:
. . . lawyers often are represented by 18 . . .
The vibration this year was favorable for his ad
mission to the bar.
The change of leading numbers took place in
1909, from the number of the month to the
number of the day of Mr Roosevelt’s birth.
From then on until 1936 he was affected most
by 30. But in 1912 there came the next change
of cycle which had lasted since 1901. From 1909
until 1912, a period of 3 years, his experiences
affecting his personal and individual matters
(more or less modified from year to year) was
(1909 added equals 19 plus 30 equals 49) the
meaning of 49:
LIVING EXAMPLES 141
. . . tends to lead onward and upward; a universal
diplomat . . .
There began at this time an influence that brought
him into prominence politically. Within this
period (1910) he was elected and re-elected
(1912) to the New York State Senate. From 1912
until 1925 (the next change of cycle for 13 years)
his experience pertaining to individual and
personal matters was affected by 43 (13 plus 30
equals 43), the meaning of which is:
In all aspects 43 is connected with military activi
ties . . . some danger from war and firearms, but vic
tory can be obtained only through positive action.. . .
As early in this cycle as 1913 he became assistant
secretary of the navy. In 1918 Mr Roosevelt was
in charge of inspections of United States naval
forces in European waters and of demobilization
in Europe in 1919. In 1925 there came another
cycle which changed somewhat with the change
of leading number from the day of birth to the
number of the year, 1936. From 1925 until 1936,
a period of 11 years, he was still affected mostly
by the day of birth. (1925 added equals 17 plus
30 equals 47.) Within this period things were
unstable, yet he was agreeable and tactful, dis-
142 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
criminating and co-operative as Number 47
indicates, which qualities were helpful to him
during this unstable period, enabling him to take
advantage of the more favorable years when
they did come within this period. He was
governor of the state of New York from 1929
until 1933. 1929 added equals 21 plus 30 equals

. . . leader in any cause; promises advancement in
all undertakings; very powerful . . .
In 1932 Mr Roosevelt became President of the
United States and was re-elected in 1936. 1932
added equals 15 plus 30 equals 45, which number
means :
45 loves to teach and serve as well as help others;
it punishes wickedness, lifts the fallen and the dis
tressed; indicates preparedness against emergencies
. . . activities connected with groups and organiza
tions . . .
From then on Mr Roosevelt applied himself to
“ lift the fallen and the distressed” through a
New Deal. Senate investigations followed to
curb the activities of syndicates and “ punish
wickedness.” His inaugural address was full of
45, indicating his desire as the new leader to
LIVING EXA M PLES 143
“ teach and serve.” In 1936 Mr Roosevelt began
a new term of office. In that year his leading num
ber changed from the day of the month of his
birth to 19, the number of the year. (1882 added
equals 19.) 19 plus 19 equals 38 (19 is the ad
dition of 1936) and 38 means:
Sometimes brings quarrels, misunderstandings . . .
where there is harmony it increases it, but where
there is discord it brings lies, deceit and falsehood.
At best its power is considered unstable and therefore
should be watched especially when found in connec
tion with future events . . .
The campaign affecting Mr Roosevelt’s re-
election certainly brought this out. To his follow
ers Mr Roosevelt was the savior of his country,
and their praises of his policies sounded from
shore to shore. But the opposition went as far
as it dared to disprove what Mr Roosevelt’s
followers said.
The uncertainty of the international situation
makes 1940 a crucial year for this country.
Should there be an outbreak involving America
in 1940 I believe it safe to say that those re
sponsible for it will find Mr Roosevelt equal to
the situation.
144 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
We shall now consider the name
FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT
This name carries with it the number of his
destiny. It is his name of destiny, and the vowels
of the name indicate the talents he was born with:
Healthy and brings long life, friendship and love;
with 39 live in the southwest and face southwest;
lower aspect shows cruelty and suffering, but even as
it can go to the lowest depths so it can rise to the
greatest heights.
It is a native characteristic of the man to be
friendly and kind. He was actually born that
way. It was his healthy mental state that over-
came for him his physical handicap, and he is des
tined to live long, but it would be advantageous
for him to live in and face the southwest rather
than the present location of his home. He was
born capable of rising “ to the greatest heights.”
The name of Mr Roosevelt’s adoption is

number of self-confidence, although some unusual
event may be needed to develop this quality . . . bad
aspect foreshadowing disasters brought about by as
sociation with others; ruin by bad speculations, by
partnerships, unions and bad advice . . .
We see then that Mr Roosevelt’s harm would
come from too-close association. I believe that
the foregoing pretty much reveals the vibration
affecting his mental state.
Personal vibration (47):
. . . agreeable and tactful, discriminating and co
operative . . . can handle money, statistics, and makes
a good banker . . .
I have not as yet had the privilege of meeting Mr
Roosevelt personally; therefore I cannot corrobo
rate my finding firsthand. Nevertheless, from

attention to the manner in which he expresses
himself I am inclined to believe this is true.

Mental vibration (24):

Undoubtedly Mr Roosevelt’s marriage to Mrs
Eleanor Roosevelt was a big advantage to him
in attaining the heights he has attained. On the
other hand, Mrs Roosevelt, herself a member
of the Roosevelt family by birth, gained through
her marriage a position in life she would not have
attained without her husband. The Roosevelts
have always been prominent members of society.
There is every indication they received assistance
and association of those of rank and position
with their plans.

32 gives easy speech and quick mastery of foreign

lack of spirituality.
This country for years has been spoken of as the
“ melting pot” for Europe. All nations are repre
sented here. The bad thing about it is that after
becoming citizens men still cling in spirit to their
native lands and they organize themselves into
groups that are more or less swayed by the
policies of the fatherland or the mother country
as the case may be.
The United States has always sounded in the
ears of the people of Europe “ the messenger of
good luck in connection with future events.”
Our country has been an asylum for the op
pressed since it was founded. A more friendly
spirit may be found here than in the countries
of Europe and Asia. In this republic men enjoy,
under the constitution, equal rights, and there
are no caste systems or “ blue bloods,” at least

legally, to interfere with man, regardless of the
station of his birth.
America has been for some time past “ the land
of jazz." Men came to our shores to escape
religious persecution, and the tendency has been
for our people to go to the other extreme of in
difference to authority.
The United States is destined to have a bright
future. 32 “ is usually a messenger of good luck
in connection with future events.” And the
reason for it is due to the fact that “ 32 brings
many friends, social and business connections.”
It seems that the purpose for founding this re
public is that it would be as a kind of haven for
men of all nations, since “ 32 is magical and
associated usually with combinations of people
or nations.” Since 1857 the birth-path number
has taken the lead in the affairs of this nation.
Until 1803 our country was affected most by
the month of its birth—July, the seventh month.
7 is the number of struggle and interest in mari

In those days before the railroads men naturally
looked to the waterways. Until 1783 this country
was engaged in its war for independence, even
though it had declared the colonies free in 1776.
The end of the first national cycle took place in
1797 when the Constitution of the United States
was framed, a period of 21 years since the Decla
ration of Independence was signed. The second
cycle of 21 years lasted from 1848, the year of
the Mexican War, until 1869, the close of the
War of Secession and beginning of the reconstruc
tion period in the United States. The third cycle
of 21 years began in 1893, the year of a great
financial panic, and lasted until 1914, the year
of the European war that from the beginning
affected the conditions of this nation. Now the
fourth cycle of 21 began in 1929, the year of the
stock-market crash, and will end in 1950. Ac
cording to Mary Adams, 21 “ represents super
victory, the supreme success of the human soul
. . . mastery on three planes, and typifies the
union of love and wisdom; the end of the path of
human effort and the perfection of tasks well

before a nation bom anew, destined to become
one of the greatest powers on earth. At the close
of the third a big financial boom began in the
United States. And when 1950 arrives we can
look for a big change in the financial system for
the better. 1950 or 15 plus 32 birth path equals

when wealth is acquired 4 surprises others by the way
it employs it or the use put to it . . .
Before 1830 it was more true of this country than
today, because from 1803 until 1830 the leading
number of all others was 4. The prohibition
amendment is one evidence of American attempt
to social reform. The indifference as to the ac
152 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
cumulation of wealth, of course, lies not with the
idea that Americans do not desire wealth, but the
indifference lies with the fact that so many, I am
sorry to say, are willing to employ most any kind
of unscrupulous methods, racketeering, etc.,
to gain what they desire.
Looking over the history of our country, we
cannot overlook the fact that the greatest sacri
fices have been made during the 21 cycles. Possi
bly this last one since 1929, in many respects,
has taken the lead. They deal with the most
critical times and our greatest wars; by that I
mean the wars that affected us most have been
during the 21 cycles.
21 is a number of great promise, but it is abso
lutely essential that the individual whose number
is 21 make a very big sacrifice. A strong will, un
selfish devotion and consecration are involved.
Since this number expresses a spiritual attain
ment that stands for the highest in man, any
thing contrary to its principle will only hinder
the blessing to those who must finish their course.
The symbol is called by different names—the
world, the universe and the crown of the Magi.
Reward comes to those whose life was well spent,
a victory after a long fight.
LIVING EXAMPLES 153
We need not expect to escape a great conflict
before 1950. Dealing with the internal affairs of
our nation this year, 1940, it looks very critical.
1940 added equals 14 plus 4 equals 18, the mean
ing of which is as follows:
Symbolizes the materialism of the world warring
against the spiritual side of man’s nature. 18 is gener
ally associated with bitter quarrels, even family ones;
also with war, social strife and revolt; 18 has also
been sometimes considered the number of making
money and position through war, and it brings the
warning of treachery, deception by others. 18 warns
of danger from storms, water, fires and explosions . . .
The above deals with internal affairs, but the
great period of distress may come sometime later.
We have, according to my finding, ten more years
before we have passed through this 21 cycle.

An account of Washington’s Vision, recorded
by Wesley Bradshaw in the Woodstock, 111.,
Democrat, June 27, 1861, came into my hands.
Mr Bradshaw tells of his meeting with Anthony
Sherman on July 4, 1859, in Independence
Square before Independence Hall, who told him
154 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
in his 91st year the story Washington related in
the presence of Mr Sherman to his orderly, as
follows :
“ After a preliminary conversation which lasted
some half-hour Washington, gazing upon his com
panion with a strange look of dignity, which he alone
could command, said to the latter:
“ ‘ I do not know whether it was owing to the
anxiety of my mind or what, but this afternoon as I
was sitting at this very table, engaged in preparing a
dispatch, something in the apartment seemed to dis
turb me. Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me
a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for
I had given strict orders not to be disturbed, that it
was some moments before I found language to in
quire the cause of her presence. A second, third and
even a fourth time did I repeat the question, but I
received no answer from my mysterious visitor other
than a slight raising of her eyes. By this time I felt a
strange sensation creeping through me; I would have
risen, but the riveted gaze of the being before me
rendered volition impossible. I essayed to address her,
but my tongue had become paralyzed. A new influ
ence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession
of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly,
at my unknown visitant. Gradually the surrounding
atmosphere seemed as though becoming filled with
LIVING EXAMPLES 155
sensations and grew luminous; everything around me
appeared more airy and yet even more distinct to my
sight than before. I now began to feel as one dying,
or, rather, to experience the sensations which I have
sometimes imagined accompany dissolution. I did not
think; I did not reason; I did not move; all were alike,
impossible. I was only conscious of gazing fixedly,
vacantly, at my companion. Presently I heard a voice
saying,
“ “ ‘ Son of the Republic, look and learn!” While at
the same time my companion extended her arm and
forefinger eastward. I now beheld a heavy white va
por at some distance, rising fold upon fold. This
gradually disappeared, and I looked upon a strange
scene. Before me lay, stretched out in one vast plain,
all the countries of the world—Europe, Asia, Africa
and America. I saw, rolling and tossing between
Europe and America, the billows of the Atlantic; and
between Asia and America, the Pacific.
“ “ ‘ Son of the Republic,” said the mysterious voice
as before, “ look and learn.”
‘“ At that moment I beheld a dark shadowy being,
like an angel, standing, or, rather, floating in mid-air
between Europe and America. Dipping water out of
the ocean in the hollow of each hand, he cast some
upon America with his right, while he cast upon
Europe some with his left. Immediately a dark cloud
arose from each of these countries and joined in mid
156 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
ocean. For a while it remained stationary and then
moved slowly westward, until it enveloped America
in its murky folds. Sharp flashes of lightning now
gleamed throughout intervals, and I heard the smoth
ered groans of the American people. A second time
the angel dipped from the ocean and sprinkled it out
as before. The dark cloud was then drawn back to the
ocean, into whose heaving waves it sank from view.
A third time I heard the mysterious voice saying,
“ “ ‘ Son of the Republic, look and learn.” I cast my
eyes upon America and beheld villages, towns and
cities springing up one after another, until the whole
land from the Atlantic to the Pacific was dotted with
them. And again I heard the mysterious voice saying,
‘“ “ Son of the Republic, the end of a century
cometh—look and learn.”
“ ‘ At this the dark shadowy angel turned his face
southward, and from Africa I saw an ill-omened
specter approaching our land. It flitted slowly and
heavily over every village, town and city of the latter,
the inhabitants of which presently set themselves in
battle array, one against the other. As I continued
looking I saw a bright angel on whose brow rested a
crown of light, on which was traced the word Union,
bearing the American flag, which he placed between
the divided nation and said,
“ “ ‘ Remember! ye are brethren!”
“ ‘ Instantly the inhabitants, casting from them

their weapons, became friends once more and united
around the national standard. And again I heard the
mysterious voice, saying,
“ ‘ “ Son of the Republic, the second peril is passed
—look and learn!”
“ ‘And I beheld the villages, towns and cities of
America increased in size and number, till at last
they covered all the land from the Atlantic to the
Pacific, and their inhabitants became as countless as
the stars in heaven or the sand upon the seashore.
And again I heard the mysterious voice saying,
“ ‘ “ Son of the Republic, the end of a century
cometh; look and learn.”
“ ‘ At this the dark and shadowy angel placed a
trumpet to his mouth and blew three distinct blasts
and, taking water from the ocean, sprinkled it out
upon Europe, Asia and Africa. Then my eyes looked
upon a fearful scene! From each of these countries
arose thick black clouds, which soon joined into one;
and through this mass gleamed a dark red light, by
which I saw hordes of armed men who, moving with
the cloud, marched by land and sailed by the sea to
America, which country was presently enveloped in
the volume of the cloud. And I dimly saw these vast
armies devastate the whole country and pillage and
burn the villages, cities and towns which I had beheld
springing up. As my ears listened to the thundering of
cannon, clashing of swords and shouts and cries of a

million in mortal combat I again heard the mys
terious voice saying,
‘“ “ Son of the Republic, look and learn.”
“ ‘When the voice had ceased the dark shadowy
angel placed his trumpet once more to his mouth and
blew a long and fearful blast. Instantly a light, as
from a thousand suns, shone down from above me
and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud
which enveloped America. At the same moment I saw
the angel upon whose forehead still shone the word
Union, and who bore our national flag in one hand
and a sword in the other, descend from heaven, at
tended by legions of bright spirits. These immediately
joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived
were well-nigh overcome, but who immediately
seemed to take courage, again closed up their ranks
and renewed the battle. Again, amid the fearful noise
of the conflict, I heard a mysterious voice saying:
“ “ ‘ Son of the Republic, look and learn.”
‘“ As the voice ceased the shadowy angel for the
last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled
it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled
back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving
the villages, towns and cities spring up where they
had been before, while the bright angel, planting the
azure standard he had brought in the midst of them,
cried in a loud voice to the inhabitants,
“ ‘ “ While the stars remain and the heavens send

down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Republic
last.”
“ ‘And taking from his brow the crown on which
blazed the word Union, he placed it upon the stand
ard, while all the people, kneeling, said, “ Amen!” The
scene instantly began to fade and dissolve; and I saw
nothing but the rising, curling white vapor I had first
beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once
more gazing upon my mysterious visitor, who in the
same mysterious voice I had heard before said:
“ ‘ “ Son of the Republic, what you have seen is
thus interpreted: three perils will come upon the
Republic. The most fearful is the second, passing
which, the whole world united shall never be able to
prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic
learn to live for his God, his land and Union.”
“ ‘ With these words the figure vanished. I started
from my seat and felt that I had been shown the
birth, progress and destiny of the Republic of the
United States. In Union she will have her strength,
in disunion her destruction.’
“ Such, my friends,” continued the venerable nar
rator, “ were the words I heard from Washington’s
own lips, and America will do well to profit by them.
Let her remember that in Union she has her strength,
in disunion is her destruction.”
CHAPTER II
Timely Advice
I n c l o s i n g , I wish to recall to the reader's mind
once more those wonderful words of my friend,
Mrs Henderson:
“ Never become so scientific or religious that you
forget to be human.”
You have completed my five-lesson course in
numerology, and if you have regarded it seriously
you have been applying the principles in your
everyday affairs and no doubt you realize you
have stepped upon a new field of occult study.
But before you tell others about it, adopt a new
signature or change your street and city address,
let me give you some timely advice.
As I quoted elsewhere in this book I take this
opportunity to mention again the warning we
have received accompanying the Quaballah:
He who deals with the Quaballah deals with fire.
Fire is a good servant but a bad master. With it
to serve us we have light and heat. It brightens
160
T IM E LY ADVICE 161
our homes and gives us cheer. It makes us com
fortable. It prepares our food and consumes our
rubbish. But let us see what damage an irre
sponsible individual can do with fire. He can
destroy our homes and even end his own life
with it. I want my readers to remember this:
This system of numerology is in no sense of the
word a side step from the great law:
“ As ye sow so shall ye reap.”
For according to authorities of this teaching, man
earned his present birth path before he came, and
what will be his birth paths in the future de
pends entirely upon how well or how poorly he
lives this one. Kozminsky says:
“ According to Quaballistical teaching all the race
of man sinned in their parent Adam, for all are con
tained in him. Thus the children of Adam were con
demned to clothe themselves in material prisons or
bodies. From these bodies were they to reach again
the lost Paradise. When an earth life was passed the
child of earth could proceed from Asiah (world of
physical appetites) to Jezirah (world of passions),
from Jezirah (world of passions) to Briah (world of
reason), but he could not, unless purified from earth
grossness, enter the sunlit world of the angels—Azi-
162 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
luth (world of spiritual life)—and had therefore to re
enter the earth again to begin his penance anew . . .”
There is not a number but what has two
aspects to it, i.e., a higher and a lower. They who
would change from one form of signature to
another must always remember that they must
take the bitter with the sweet, for with every
vibration we take on we find a new path opened
up to us. For instance: Number 15 is “ a fortunate
number for obtaining money, gifts and favors
from others.” Nevertheless, “ if associated with
a 4 or 8, the person with 15 will use any sort
of art or even ‘ black magic’ to gain what he or
she desires.” Here the two aspects confront the
person with 15. On the path of 15 he must attract
to himself the Divine influences, the nobler things
of life. In a word his task is to live in the higher
aspect of 15. A 15 vibration is very powerful
mentally, strongly occult. In the higher aspect
of 15 a person can be a shining light in the
world, a blessing to oneself and to others. His
good deeds will return to him with a double
blessing, and he will go on and on from grace to
grace until sometime he meets the Master of his
path preparing him for something more beauti
ful, more satisfying, more glorious. And with
TIMELY ADVICE 163
the increase of spirituality there comes a di
minishing of the effect of the lower aspect in the
vibration until it passes into oblivion. He who
follows the “ inner light,” which is the right as
God gives man to see the right, must inevitably
experience that peace for which the weary ones
sigh; that peace that the world cannot give, for
it transcends it. And with this peace comes an
equilibrium that is so necessary to progress. But
what of the person who follows the lower aspect,
who is interested in this teaching only so far as
it will give him some hint as to how he can take
an unfair advantage of his fellow man? I say,
the more he attracts unto himself this condition
of thought the easier it will be for him to “ gain”
in such practice; with the seeming gain he will
drop into other wickedness. With the increase
of the lower aspect of his vibration the higher
becomes weaker in its hold upon him until, like
the irresponsible with a fiery torch, he becomes
a menace to society and will sometime find that
the law of retribution will demand of him an
account that he shall reap what he had sowed.
What I mean by the unalterable birth path is
this: Man cannot change his birth path nor side
track what he came into the world to do if he
164 NUMEROLOGY FOR EVERYBODY
would be successful; but one thing he can do;
he can live, by the grace of God, in the higher
aspect of his numbers rather than in the lower.
As I said before, “ We need to realize the vast
ness of wisdom and what little any one person
knows in comparison with it.” With this newly
acquired knowledge you are facing a world of
agnosticism, skepticism, carelessness of investi
gation; a world with people who take hasty
conclusions that make them unprepared for
judgment; a world of misrepresentation and
self-conceit; yes, a world with people who pre
tend to be interested in your proposition until
they draw from you the things that only friends
bestow upon those they desire to help and com
fort. What is the result? Ridicule and laughter
in return for your well-meaning intention. What
we want to do is to avoid this; to judge righteous
judgment; to “ be as wise as serpents but as
harmless as doves.” Jesus said, “ Cast not your
pearls before swine or they will turn again and
rend you.” The same advice holds good with this
teaching. Meeting a practical world, our conver
sations must be along practical lines. Said
Solomon, “ Words fitly spoken are like apples
of gold in pictures of silver.” We must never
T IM E LY ADVICE 165
forget our equilibrium; never become fanatical;
never keep harping upon the subject to someone
who is curious; oftentimes curiosity is deceiving.
Until one has studied the subject and practiced
it sufficiently, rather than talk a great deal about
it to the curious, it would be better to acquaint
the inquirer with the name of the book and where
it can be obtained. Another thing! Don’t go
around numerologizing everything you see and
hear continually as some do. You will tire your
self, and with such a frame of mind you are
certain to speak out of turn. Eat a little and
digest it; then eat some more until you have
eaten it all; then see what a wonderful experience
you will have. There is most assuredly a right
way and a wrong manner in reading, studying or
applying anything.
Your study and practice of the contents of this
book give you a good foundation for further
study. There is much I have not mentioned in five
lessons; yet I believe you will agree with me that
I selected “ the meat” of the matter for every
day practical use and have saved the reader much
unnecessary reading of information that does not
immediately concern him. M ay my readers find
these pages interesting, helpful and instructive.
