A Detailed Lesson Plan
In
Science 10
I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of the
influence of biodiversity on the stability of ecosystems.
Performance Standard: The learners should be able to write an
essay on the importance of adaptation as a mechanism for the
survival of a species.
Learning Competency: Explain how species diversity increases
the probability of adaptation and survival of organisms in changing
environments. (S10LT - IIIh -41)
Specific Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the lesson, students shall be able to:
1. define and explain what biodiversity is
2. identify and discuss the main threats to species diversity
3. explore and reflect different conservation strategies that
helps increases probability of adaptation and survival of
organisms
II. CONTENT: Biodiversity and Stability
A. Learning Resources: Science 10 MELC’s, Science 10 (Learner’s
Material) pages 328-336. Youtube; Philippine Biodiversity Video
B. Learning Materials: PowerPoint presentation, projector, laptop,
manila paper, marker

B. Review
Activity 1. 4 Picture in 1 word
Let the students recall on the previous lesson through a word
search puzzle.
The teacher will present the following picture:
Process Questions:
1) What word best describe from the pictures?
2) What is the evidence of evolutions?
From our previous lesson, we have learned how evolution through
natural selection can result in Biodiversity.
C. Activity/Motivation (5 minutes)
Activity 2. Philippine Biodiversity Video Presentation (Video
Credits: Biodiversity Management Bureau)
Process questions:
1) From the video what organisms or species did you see?
2) Can we consider our country, Philippines as one of the most
diverse country? Why?
3) Since we lived in a diverse country, can we consider ourselves
blessed? Why?
4) Can you give ideas how can we preserved and protect those
species?
D. Analysis
Biodiversity- Refers to the variety of life in an area. It refers to
the living things that includes plants, bacteria, animals, and
humans.
Short for biological diversity, biodiversity includes all organisms,
species, and populations.
Biodiversity is a term that describes how varied living things are
in a specific area. Organisms are part of biodiversity and may
economically and ecologically valuable. There products can be a
source of foods, medicine, clothing, shelter, and energy. These
organisms are also important in maintaining balance in the
ecosystem as they perform their specific roles.
Process Question:
1) How many kinds of living things can be found in your
community?
2) Can you name organism that has a value to your life?
3) Why do you consider those species or organisms important?
Activity 3. Let’s Think about this!
The teacher will present the following pictures:
Process Question:
1) What can you say about these pictures?
2) Which pictures show high level of diversity?
Process questions:
1) What happen to the animal on the picture?
2) What human activities can affect biodiversity?
3) How can this harmful activities threaten species diversity?
E. Abstraction (5 minutes)
Activity 3. Analyzing Environmental Issues
The class will be divided into 3. Each group will be given different
environmental issues and they will discuss it in their group.
Identify what are the harmful threats affects to biodiversity in
each situation and gives possible solution. Write on manila paper
in a tabular form following this order:
Causes Effects Possible Solutions
Group 1. Farmlands and forest are converted into housing
projects.
Group 2. Rivers dumped garbage from illegal settlers and toxic
wastes from the industries.
Group 3. Overfishing declines marine life populations
Each group will choose one representative to present their ideas
to the class.
Each group will also be graded using the following rubrics:

Process Questions:
1) From your activity, what causes this environmental issue?
2) As a student what will you do for you to be part of the solution
of those harmful activities?
3) How will you inspire other student to help conserve and
protect our biodiversity?
F. Application
Activity 4. Yes We Can ! (5 minutes)
The same group will be assigned a different task.
For 10 minutes, the class shall be able to do the following tasks.
Group 1 – Make a Slogan that raise awareness of the
importance on conservation efforts and sustainable practices
in promoting the survival of organisms in a changing
environment.
Group 2 – Compose a short song/jingle that promotes
consciousness of how human activities can affect other
organisms that play important roles on our environment.
Group 3 – Make a short poem that advocates strategies
aimed at preserving and protecting the biodiversity and will
inspire people to be part of the solution on climate change.
Process Questions:
1) What will you do be the voice of other organisms who are now
endangered?
2) As a young citizen on this country, how can you be a good role
model that advocates protecting and conserving our
environment?
