Environmental Problems in Our Community
Many places in our neighborhood are beautiful, but some have problems that
affect our lives. Let’s meet five people who talk about the issues they see and
what we can do to solve them.
Anna – Litter in the Park
Anna loves the park near her home. She goes there to walk, read, and relax.
But lately, she has seen a lot of litter on the grass and the paths. People leave
plastic bottles, snack wrappers, and paper cups after picnics. Sometimes the
wind carries the trash into the pond, and animals can get sick. Anna thinks the
park needs more trash bins and signs. She also suggests a community clean-up
day. If everyone helps, the park will be cleaner and safer.
David – Graffiti on School Walls
David is a teacher at the local school. The school walls are full of graffiti.
Some of the drawings are nice, but most make the school look old and dirty.
Visitors sometimes think the school is not well cared for. The problem
happens because there is no space for young people to paint legally. David
says they must repaint the walls and create a special wall for art. If they do
this, the school will look better and students will feel proud.
Maria – Noisy Traffic on Main Street
Maria lives next to Main Street. During rush hours, cars, buses, and
motorcycles make a lot of noise. At night, trucks sometimes pass quickly,
making it hard to sleep. The noise causes stress and headaches. One reason for
the noise is that many people drive instead of using public transport. Maria
believes the city should limit heavy traffic at night and plant more trees to
reduce the sound. If traffic is quieter, the neighborhood will be more peaceful.
Carlos – Polluted River Water
Carlos likes jogging along the river. In the past, the water was clean, but now
it is full of trash like plastic bags, bottles, and even old furniture. People throw
garbage into the river because there are not enough waste containers nearby.
This pollution is dangerous for fish and birds. It also smells bad. Carlos says
they should put more trash bins and organize clean-up campaigns. The local
government must also make rules to protect the river. If the river is clean,
more people will enjoy it.
Sarah – Deforestation near the Playground
Sarah plays with her children near the playground. There used to be many tall
trees that gave shade and fresh air. Recently, many were cut down to build
new houses. Now the playground is hotter, and there are fewer birds. Sarah
believes the community should plant more trees and protect the ones that
remain. If they do this, children will have a cooler and more pleasant place to
play.
