CUTTING OUT
Step one From main fabric, cut:
Shirt Front (1): one pair.
Shirt Back (2): one on fold.
Yoke (3): one on fold.

STITCHING TERMS
RS/WS: Right side/wrong side of the fabric. The right side usually has the print,
Collar (4): two on fold.
Sleeve (5): one pair.
Cuff (6): one pair.

Step five Pin and stitch the Pockets to the Shirt Fronts where marked, stitching
close to the edge around the Pocket sides and base. 04

JOINING THE SHIRT FRONTS AND BACK


Step one Pin and stitch the Yoke to Shirt Back RS together. Finish seam
allowances together and press them downwards. 05
Step two Matching notches, pin and stitch the Shirt Fronts to the Shirt Back
RS together at shoulder seams and side seams. Finish the seam allowances
and press them open. 06

ADDING THE COLLAR


Step one Attach interfacing to the WS of one Collar piece. Pin and stitch the
Collar pieces RS together as shown, around the Collar edges and along the
top edge of Collar. Trim the seam allowances and clip curves. 07
Step two Turn the collar RS out and press. 08
Step three Pin and stitch the uninterfaced side of Collar to the neck edge of
the shirt. Trim the seam allowances and snip around the curves. 09
Step four Press the seam allowances towards Collar.
Step five Turn under the seam allowances on the free edge of the Collar. Pin
in place and slipstitch over the neck seam by hand. 10

ADDING THE BUTTONHOLES


Step one Sew the top buttonhole horizontally where marked in the right front
end of the Collar.
Step two Sew the bottom buttonhole vertically where marked in the shirt right
front. Sew four further buttonholes, evenly spaced, between these two,
ensuring all buttonholes are the same distance from the finished front edge,
again in vertical positions. 11
Step three Sew buttons to the left shirt front on the centre front line to
correspond with the buttonholes.

ADDING THE SLEEVES
Step one Attach interfacing to the WS of each Cuff.
Step two Fold the Cuff over at the foldline as shown, and stitch either end of
the Cuff. Trim seam allowances and clip corners. Turn RS out and press. 12
Step three Matching notches, pin and stitch the Sleeve side seams leaving the
seam open below the circle marking for the Sleeve vent.
Step four Finish the seam allowances separately and press them open.
Step five Topstitch the seam allowances in place around the opening, pivoting
at the top of the vent.
Step six Make two knife pleats in the bottom of the Sleeve. Matching notches,
fold the pleats towards the sleeve vent, as shown, and tack in place within the
seam allowance. 13
Step seven Pin and stitch the Cuff to the lower edge of the Sleeve. Trim the
seam allowances. 14
Step eight Press seam allowances towards the Cuff. Turn the seam allowances
under on the free edge of the cuff and slipstitch them in place over the seam.
Step nine Sew the buttonholes where marked at the back of the Cuff. Sew
buttons to the front of the Cuff to correspond with the buttonholes. 15
Step ten Sew two rows of long gathering stitches at the sleeve head between
the notches. 16
Step eleven To insert the Sleeves, have the shirt WS out and Sleeves RS out.
Matching notches, side seams and shoulder points, pin the Sleeves into the
armholes, drawing up the gathering stitches and arranging evenly. Stitch in
place then trim the seam allowances to 1cm and finish them together. Press
the seam allowances towards the Sleeves. 17

make it with!
We have listed a few fabrics made of VERSATILE
Chambray cotton which is ideal for making shirts. Sew your Robyn
While this fabric might look like denim, Shirt with plain or
patterned fabrics.
Chambray is actually much lighter and woven
differently. Now, it's your turn to choose if you
want your Robyn Shirt to be pastel with light
fabrics and a striped or gingham design. Or
choose a more timeless and classic version by
using one type of plain solid fabric, which would
make it easier to pair with nearly everything you
already have in your wardrobe.
No matter how you decide to make it, this shirt
will pair perfectly with simple, denim trousers or
skirt and some discreet, gold jewellery so that
