I. Objectives
At the end of the 50-minute session, learners should be able to:
 visualizing percent and its relationship to fractions, ratios, and
decimal numbers using models.
 follow the step on how to visualize a percent in a fractions, ratios,
and decimal numbers; and
 write a percent in decimal numbers, ratios, and fractions.

Here we asked to get the percent off the


test marie answered correcty. But now lets
find out what is percent mean.

In the word percent, per means for every

Lets solve this by drawing a model. Since


we know that the test is 100, now lets divide
our figure into 100 parts.

There you go. Since 89 part out of 100 part


are shaded, this means that marie
answered 89% correctly.

Lets now represent the shaded part in ratio,


fraction, decimal and percent.

Step 1. In ratio, we can compare the


number of shaded part which is 89 to the
total number of parts which is 100. Which
give us the ratio is 89 is to 100.
Step 2. In fraction, we can simply write this
as 89 as the numerator and 100 as the
denominator

Step 3. In decimal, we can simply divide the


numerator by the denominator. We have
89÷100 = 0.89

This mean that percent, fraction, ratio and


decimal are related to each other.

Example 2:

We have here a figure with 100 part, where


43 parts are shaded.

Step 1. In ratio, we can compare the

total number of parts which is 100. Which
give us the ratio is 43 is to 100.

Step 2. In fraction, we can simply write this


as 43 as the numerator and 100 as the
denominator

Step 3. In decimal, we can simply divide the


numerator by the denominator. We have
43÷100 = 0.43

Step 4. In percent, we simply move the


decimal point two places to the right then
add percent sign. So the answer is 43%
