Natural Play: Observation: (What did you observe while the children played in the room that inspired you to
plan for the play experience?)
During today’s observation, I saw children in the dramatic play area role-playing as families. One child was
pretending to be a parent cooking dinner, while another was pretending to be a teacher, leading a group of
students. This inspired me to create an activity focused on role-playing various community helpers, allowing
children to practice social interactions and work together. In the outdoor play area, I observed a child helping a
peer climb a structure, offering emotional support when the peer seemed hesitant. These interactions indicated a
strong sense of social connection and care, which I wanted to build on in future activities.
What “Dispositions to Learn”, from Flight, do you see? (Refer back to the descriptors in the document)Any 2
Playing and Playful? How:
The children’s playful interactions were full of imaginative scenarios and emotional engagement. In dramatic
play, they used roles to express different emotions like joy (pretend cooking meals) and frustration (working
through disagreements), demonstrating an understanding of various social roles and emotional responses.
Seeking? How:
The children actively sought out others to play with, showing emotional engagement and curiosity about others'
ideas. For example, in the dramatic play, a child asked another, “Do you want to be the doctor?” demonstrating
interest in collaborating and forming emotional connections with peers.
Participating? How:
The children participated in the group play, working together to create stories and solve problems. In outdoor
play, they worked as a team to build a structure and supported each other when one child seemed unsure about
completing the task.
Persisting? How:
Social persistence was evident when children encountered minor conflicts or challenges. For example, one child
continued to engage in a role despite a disagreement over which role to play. This perseverance in social
interaction showed their emotional resilience and the importance of continuing to work together, even when
faced with challenges.

Caring? How:
A significant emotional development was observed when children displayed care and empathy. One child
helped another who was struggling to climb the outdoor play structure, demonstrating not just physical
assistance, but emotional support. In the dramatic play, children cared for each other’s roles, such as “serving”
one another food and checking in to make sure everyone had a turn.
Developmental Domain analysis: What Domains did you see and how will you include this in planning
I observed significant social and emotional development, including emotional regulation, empathy, and social
interaction. The children expressed a range of emotions through their roles and interacted with their peers to
resolve conflicts or offer support. I will plan future activities that foster cooperation, emotional expression, and
support the children to express their feelings and understand those of others.

Objective Observation of Activity:
I will carefully observe how the children engage emotionally with one another during their playtime activities,
particularly when they are negotiating roles within the group and when they encounter and resolve conflicts. I
will pay close attention to the ways in which the children are able to express their emotions, both verbally and
non-verbally, especially through imaginative role play scenarios where they take on different characters and
social roles. Additionally, I will focus on their capacity to recognize, respond to, and show empathy for the
feelings and experiences of their peers, noting moments of kindness, support, and emotional sensitivity as they
interact in both structured and spontaneous situations.
Reflections:
Evaluation of Activity: How did it go – (go beyond fine)? What would you do differently? How could you
extend and expand the activity?
The activity was successful in supporting children to express a variety of emotions and work collaboratively.
Children were engaged, and there was a clear development of both social skills (cooperation, role negotiation)
and emotional awareness (showing care and empathy). However, I could extend the activity by introducing
more structured scenarios where children must work together to solve problems, such as rescuing a "cat" from a
tree or organizing a "community event."
Reflect on your learning. What did you learn about children? What did you learn about yourself? How does this
relate to the course work you have taken so far? – Be specific
I learned that children are capable of expressing complex emotions through play and that they benefit from
structured opportunities to practice empathy and cooperation. This is directly related to my course work on
social-emotional development, as it demonstrates how play is a critical tool for fostering these skills.
