Reflection on the Seminar and Personal Learning Journey

Attending the seminar on "Integrating Agriculture in Education: Teaching the Value

of Farming" by Dr. Richard P. Impas gave me a deeper appreciation for the essential
role agriculture plays in our lives and in education. During our first meeting in this
subject, I expected that I would gain practical and meaningful insights about
agriculture and how it connects to education. I hoped that this subject would not only
teach theoretical knowledge but would also help me develop values and skills
applicable in real life, especially as a future educator in the field of Technical-
Vocational Education.

The discussion emphasized that agriculture is not just about planting crops, it also
involves fisheries, animal husbandry, and urban gardening. It is a broad field that
integrates science, sustainability, and innovation. One of the important realizations I
gained is how agriculture provides both aesthetic and essential value to society.
Farming is not just a means of survival; it is also a source of balance in nature and
human life. Actually Survival Economics teaches us to care about the economy while
using eco-friendly farming methods like plant chemicals, natural fertilizers, and
saving seeds. The seminar also highlighted the importance of qualifications in
pursuing a career in this field. Documents such as the Letter of Intent, License,
Personal Data Sheet (PDS), and the Trainers Methodology Certificate are essential in
showing our competence and readiness to contribute to agricultural education. As
mentioned in the talk, we must be researcher, curious and knowledgeable enough to
explore how we can help farmers and improve agricultural methods. Urban gardening,
for example, proves that farming can thrive even in small city spaces. This made me
realize that agriculture is not just a course or a career. As a student and future
educator, I now understand the importance of teaching agriculture as a foundation for
a better future.

Looking back, I can confidently say that those expectations were met. Our teacher
guided us with passion and clarity, and the seminar by Dr. Richard P. Impas added
valuable depth to our learning. I have grown in knowledge, perspective, and
appreciation of agriculture. This subject and our teacher helped us go beyond,
encouraging us to explore, reflect, and apply what we’ve learned in meaningful ways.
I now feel more prepared and inspired to integrate agricultural knowledge into my
future teaching practice.
