Bhaskaracharya
Bhāskara II (c. 1114–1185), also known
as Bhāskarāchārya ("Bhāskara, the
teacher"). He was born in 1114 in
Vijjadavida (Vijjalavida). He lived in
the Sahyadri mountain ranges of
Western Ghats, believed to be the
town of Patan in Chalisgaon, located
in present-day Khandesh region of
Maharashtra.
Bhaskara's proof of the Pythagorean theorem
His main work Siddhānta-Śiromaṇi,
(Sanskrit for "Crown of Treatises")
is divided into four parts called
Līlāvatī, Bījagaṇita, Grahagaṇita and
Golādhyāya
Aryabhatta
Aryabhatta or Aryabhatta-I was the
first of the major mathematician-
astronomers from the classical age
of Indian mathematics and Indian
astronomy. His works include the
Āryabhaṭīya and the Arya-siddhanta.
He was born in 476 CE Kusumapura
(Pataliputra) (present-day Patna,
India) and died 550 CE (aged 73–74).
His notable ideas are:-
• Explanation of lunar eclipse and solar eclipse
• rotation of Earth on its axis
• reflection of light by the Moon
• sinusoidal functions
• solution of single variable quadratic equation
• value of π correct to 4 decimal places
• diameter of Earth
• calculation of the length of sidereal year
Brahamagupta
Brahmagupta was an Indian
mathematician and astronomer. He is
the author of two early works on
mathematics and astronomy: the
Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta, a theoretical
treatise, and the Khaṇḍakhādyaka, a
more practical text. Brahmagupta was
the first to give rules for computing
with zero.
His notable ideas are :-
• Rules for computing with Zero
• Modern number system
• Brahmagupta's theorem
• Brahmagupta's identity
• Brahmagupta's problem
• Brahmagupta–Fibonacci identity
• Brahmagupta's interpolation formula
• Brahmagupta's formula
Srinivas Ramanujan
Srinivasa Ramanujan FRS was an Indian
mathematician. He was born on 22 April,
1887 in Erode. Though he had almost no
formal training in pure mathematics,
he made substantial contributions to
mathematical analysis, number theory,
infinite series, and continued fractions,
including solutions to mathematical
problems then considered unsolvable.
His notable ideas are :-
• Ramanujan's sum
• Landau–Ramanujan constant
• Mock theta functions
• Ramanujan conjecture
• Ramanujan prime
• Ramanujan–Soldner constant
• Ramanujan theta function
• Rogers–Ramanujan identities
• Ramanujan's master theorem
• Hardy–Ramanujan asymptotic formula
• Ramanujan–Sato series
Satyendra Nath Bose
Satyendra Nath Bose was an Indian
mathematician and physicist
specializing in theoretical physics.
He was born on 1 January, 1894 in
Kolkata. He is best known for his
work on quantum mechanics in the
early 1920s, in developing the
foundation for Bose statistics and
the theory of the Bose condensate.
His notable ideas are :-
• Bose–Einstein condensate
• Bose–Einstein statistics
• Bose–Einstein distribution
• Bose–Einstein correlations
• Bose gas
• Boson
• Ideal Bose Equation of
State
• Photon gas
• Bosonic string theory
