AIM
1. To destroy insurgents at general area WESSIBENDIGALA, at earliest with following
limitations.
a. To operate WEST to EAST within demarcated bdrys.
b. To stop escaping and mixing up with civilians.
FACTORS
GROUND AND WETHER
2. Grnd in Gen: The grnd is generally covered with open paddy fields, high grounds,
primary, secondary and scrub jungle.
a. Grnd in details
(1) Generally grnd consisted with paddy fields, which provide good Fof F.
High grnd provide obsn and dominations. Primary and secondary jungle provides
good cover from grnd obsn.
(2) No major obs for Inf, but MADURUOYA cannel and jungle restrict
movement for Armr.
(3) Main track running from DAMMINNA, WALAMANDIYA,
WESSIBENDIGALA, MUDAGALA, THARAVIKULAM, PULIPANCHICAL
is motorable for both A & B vehs. WADAMUNAI via NELUGALA,
THARAVIKULAM upto PULIPANCHICAL is also motorable for A & B vehs.
All other minor tracks also can be use for movements of tracktors during dry
seasons.
(4) Key terrain: WALAMANDIYA, MOTAGALA, WESSIBENDIGALA
provides good domination from fire and obsn which cover rd axis towards West
to East.

3. Population Centers: ARALAGANWILA, DAMMINNA are populated areas which
majority Sinhala people living either side of the axis rd. People are loyal to govt. But the
villagers living in MEEYANKOLLA, WADAMUNAI, KUDUMBIMALAI are mostly the
sympathizers towards NEEF. Nevertheless, the most of villages living towards EASTERN areas
are neutral and they are not willing to suffer or go for a conflict situ again.

a. Whether condition: Rain would not be expect during this period.
(1) Position of the moon: First Qtr
(2) Tac Implication: Since moon lt will be aval from 0300 hrs, mov of a
large body of tps should be done before that.
5. Tgt area (Grnd around the obj)
a. Loc: GSQ 5790
b. Main track is running from WEST to EAST via the obj. The NORTH of obj is
completely covered with jungle and SOUTH, SOUTH-WEST and WEST of the obj is
covered with 50 - 80 feet high grnd with scrub and open patch.
c. Extent: Length and width of one obj is approx 150 X 100 M and total extent is
about 800 M.
d. Tr Sys: Minor track is running towards NORTH to EAST. Basically these
footpath used by cattle existed in the area.

ENEMY
a. Str. Around 70 fighting cadres.
b. Wpns and Eqpts. They all carry SAs. They also have 06 X LMGs, 03 X
MPMGs, 06 X RPGs, Hand Grenades, Arul Bombs, AP, ATK and Claymore Mines and
04 X 81 MM Mors as well.
c. Dress. Similar to LTTE combat dress and civil cloths.
d. Dispons. Extent and width of a hideout is approx 150 X 100 M. Trench line is
interconnected in all around the hideout and two to three bunkers are well prepared.
NEEF also have sentry pts and EW elements covering mainly west direction.
e. Neighboring Camp. Neighboring camp not detected but they have rft capability
to muster 15 - 20 cadres within three hrs, from eastern direction and northern direction as
villages of sympathizers situated around.
f. Intentions. Intention is to regain control over the grnd and commence with the
subversive activities in order to develop a perception of another Eelarm among the
people.
g. Tactics. NEEF have practice a habit of hit and run.
h Morale. NEEF are in high morale, since they gain rapid improvement during
recent past. Further some of their activities succeed during last month.
i. Activities. They maintain surveillance during day and ni and also manned
sentry pts during day and ni.
j. Capabilities. They have capabilities of escaping and merging with civilian if SF
arrives in large body.

8. Deductions.
a. I should asslt with more force having blocks/cutoffs and reserve.
b. My priority of approaches are:

c. I will conduct an inf hy attk and Armr will use for pursuit and estb blocks and
cutoffs.
d. I will estb a fire base to provide co-ord fire plan in spport of asslt tps.
e. I will employ surveillance on my flanks in order to dominate the grnd.
f. I will complete asslt quickly as poss in order to re-org and get ready for counter
attk if any.
g. I will asslt on wide frontage in order to cover en’s complete obj.
h. I will secure FRV, FUPs, SL and Fire Base in order to protect those from NEEFs
interruptions.
i. I will call CAS to cover escaping en.
SURPRISE AND DECEPTION
9. If NEEF get to know that SF is planning to launch an offensive, they will escape to the
safer area such as jungle/safe villages and getting mixing up with civilians cannot be ruled out.
Therefore it is paramount important that maintain the surprise in order to achieve the desired
result. Therefore the fol steps will follow:
a. Adv to take place only during ni hrs before moon lt.
b. Attk from unexpected direction.
c. Block/cutoffs to be estb to seal off en’s wdr routes.
d. Emp surveillance and protection party in dominating areas/features and provide
protection for FRV, FUP, SL and Fire Base.

locs in advance and may get mix up with civilians or may escape to the jungle.

b. Effects –We may not be able achieve complete destruction of the insurgent at the
obj, therefore we should have to concentrate adequate tps by employing cut off/ blocks to
cover the escape routes.
16. Course B. They will disrupt intention of SF before assault tps form up at FUP with
use of indirect wpns, scattered en elements and later escape from the posn.
a. Likely hood –Most likely
b. Effects – Have to be more concentration of Surprise and security. Tps movement
should be carried out hours of darkness and insurgent escape routes should be cut off/
block.

FRV (GSQ 5890) and then towards NORTH and asslt from EAST to WEST with 3 Coys,

18. Course 2 Advance from FOB ( GSQ 5083) WEST to NORTH-WEST up to FRV
(GSQ 5490) and estb blocks/fire base and move to FUP (GSQ 5690) towards EAST and asslt
from WEST to EAST with 03 x Coys and keeping 01 x Coy in reserve and having fire base at
gen area MOTAGALA (GSQ 5789). Armr will be at DAMMINNA until the commencement of
asslt. 01 x Coy (+) will be emp in blocks. H hr at 0320 hrs on E+2 day.
a. Advantages
(1) Maintain direction is easy.
(2) Fire base can provide observe fire sp.
(3) Distance is less.
(3) Mnvr of tps easy.
(5) Intimate fire sp from Armr can be provided after commencement of attk.
b. Disadvantages
(1) En gets open easy wdr routes to escape.
(2) Reqd more tps for blocks/cutoffs.
(3) Mine fd to be cleared during asslt.
