NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

Welcome to the Family of God

About Your Greatest Decision

Congratulations on your decision to become a Christian. Being a Christian
means you have received the life of God to become Christ like. The new
birth experience in Jesus opens you up to the riches of God prepared for you
from creation. God made you not for yourself but for Himself. And now that
you've decided to come to Him, you are beginning a journey that brings you
into the fullness of His glory. You have taken up the nature of God.

You now have a brand new life in God and old things have passed away. All
things have become new for you (2 Corinthians 5:17). All your past sins are
forgiven by God.
Just like a new born babe, you must learn to do certain things that will
inculcate in you certain values for you to grow into the image and fullness of
Jesus Christ.

Start Studying the Bible

The Bible is the word of God. In it is the power of God for change in any area
of life, when applied to daily living. It is the powerful source of inspiration for
victorious Christian Living (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It provides answers to our
questions and adequate path way to consistent growth in the knowledge of
our saviour Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:2).

How to study the Bible? As a new believer, be motivated to study by reading

at least one chapter in a day, (request for Bible reading chart in Church).
You can also start reading from the New Testament to understand God's plan
of salvation for you. Whenever you study, please always ask the following
questions trusting the Spirit of God for understanding:
1. What does this study means?
2. What does it teach me about God?
3. How do I apply the word to my daily life experiences?
4. What do I need to change?
5. What do I need to embrace?
6. What bad attitude do I need to discontinue?
7. What promises must I inculcate to live a victorious life?

Learn how to Pray

Prayer is constant communication with God. This may seem strange at first
but as you engage yourself in the act in your relationship with God; it
becomes meaningful and needful. Prayer gives you access to wisdom and
power of God to overcome and succeed in your life situations. Through
prayer you will learn dependence on God, how to engage His help as well as
build the link for divine interventions in your life. God cares for you and He
wants you to experience His peace at all times in life. He causes you to
experience this peace each time you pray.

When you pray:

1. Thank God for His grace and blessings over your life- Philippians 4:4-7
2. Ask and receive His wisdom for each day- James 1:5
3. Secure His forgiveness when you fall short of expectations - 1 John 1:7-10
4. Lay hold on relevant Bible promises as you confront the challenges of life
-1 Peter 5:7
5. Thank God for His word as well as the ability to develop staying power in
patience, thanksgiving and quietness until you see the manifestation of His
promises in your life.

Learn To Create Time with God

Your time out with God is a time of investment needed in developing a
healthy relationship. The inner strength of the believer is in the place of
their personal intimacy with God. The time spent with God releases His
grace, favour, strength and power needed for fruitfulness in the affairs of
your life.
You can learn to create time by:
1. Allocating a specific period daily (Mark 1:35)
2. Committing yourself to quietness in His presence (Psalm 46: 10)
3. Keeping records of such valuable time with God so you can keep track of
events.
4. Remembering to thank God when He comes through for you on any issue.
5. By being conscious of God's presence as you trust Him wholeheartedly
every day.

Learn To fellowship With Others.

Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour enlists you a member of the
Body of Christ. God's word instructs all believers in Christ to fellowship
regularly and cultivate a lifestyle of worship in accountability relationships
as we fellowship with others. As you interact with other believers you will:
1. Experience love, connection, correction and strength from others -
Hebrew 10:24-25
2. Receive teachings which empower you to get rooted in your Christian
Faith Ephesians 4:11-16
3. Learn to testify publicly about the goodness of God in your life -Psalms
107:8
4. Learn to get involved in the service of the house of the Lord and the
community with your talents, time, relationships and treasures.

Share Your New Found Love

As you embrace your new life in Christ, it impacts on your words and
actions. You must let your friends have the privilege of knowing Christ (Acts
2:26-35). Learn to share your first hand experience of change by reason of
your union with Christ. This shared life in Christ leads to transformation
which impacts others. People should have a firsthand experience of the
inside- out change. We can spread this good news of change by simply
sharing our story.

In sharing your story you can:

1. Use scriptural verses to help others see the perspectives of your life story.
(John 3:16, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23).
2. Share how God opened you up to His higher LIFE, by depending on the
Holy Spirit to help you witness Christ with authority and power - Mathew
10:19-20: Acts 1:8.
3. Never get into arguments with anyone. Everyone may have their
persuasions. Your responsibility is to always sow the seed of salvation, pray,
believing God to reveal Himself to people.

Your Responsibility As A Believer

As you begin to experience your new life in Christ, you need to ask God for
the baptism of His Holy Spirit which ushers in the power for supernatural
living into your life (Acts 2:1-4). You will also experience power for service as
you constantly share your testimony of changed life.
In doing this, you are encouraging others to share in the same personal
experience with the Lord Jesus Christ. Once again welcome to the family of
God and you will never be the same again.
