Welcome to the Grade 7 Chinese Language and Literature course at Branksome Hall
Asia.

Objectives
Our course is based on the MYP Objectives and students will be evaluated under the
following:
There are four assessment objectives for the language and literature course.

● C. Producing text
● D. Using language
Aims

1. The aims of MYP language and literature are to encourage and enable students to:

● use language as a vehicle for thought, creativity, reflection, learning, self-


expression, analysis and social interaction

● develop the skills involved in listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and
presenting in a variety of contexts

● develop critical, creative and personal approaches to studying and analyzing literary
and non-literary texts

● engage with text from different historical periods and a variety of cultures

● explore and analyze aspects of personal, host and other cultures through literary and
non-literary texts

● explore language through a variety of media and modes

Expectations
This course requires dedication, organization, and consistent effort. Students are
expected to stay focused, work hard, and submit all assignments on time. If students
have questions, please see me in person or contact me by email.

Class time should be used productively. Activities and discussions are designed to
deepen students’ understanding and strengthen their ability to communicate ideas
effectively. It is essential that students arrive prepared, with all required materials,
having completed assigned tasks, and ready to engage fully. A positive, energetic, and
open-minded attitude is vital. Many tasks will involve group collaboration, so students
must be able to contribute effectively both as part of a team and as an individual.

All assessments are criterion-based, and late submissions will be handled in accordance
with the Branksome Hall MYP policy.

Textbooks and Stationery

Students are responsible for obtaining required texts from the book list provided by the
teacher prior to the start of each unit. Additional teaching materials may also be
provided.

The following items are required:

●A journal/notebook (provided by the school)


●A folder for handouts

These will be available in the school shop. Students must also bring their own writing
equipment, including:

●Blue and/or black pens


●A sharpened pencil
●An eraser

Academic Honesty
Branksome Hall Asia upholds a rigorous academic honesty policy. Plagiarism is strictly
prohibited, and all resources must be properly cited using MLA8 in-text citations.

Homework
Homework is designed to reinforce students’ learning through review and practice. Its
effectiveness depends on the quality of effort and engagement students put into
completing it.
