CIA 1- Designing a Developmental Play Model: Integrating Physical, Psycho-social, and
Cognitive Growth
Objective:
To help students understand and apply principles of child development by:
● Identifying developmental milestones across domains.
● Designing an age-appropriate play activity.
● Creating a model that demonstrates how play supports physical, psycho-social, and
cognitive development.
Assignment Description:
Each Group must design and present a developmental play model targeting a specific age
group (choose from: Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Early Primary).
1. Identify key developmental milestones in:
Physical (gross and fine motor skills)
Psycho-social (emotions, relationships, self-concept)
Cognitive (thinking, memory, problem-solving)
2. Create an age-appropriate play activity that targets all three domains.
3. Construct a physical model or visual prototype of the play setup.
4. Present how the play activity supports each developmental domain.
Assignment Instructions:
1. Choose Your Age Group:
Select one developmental stage:
● Infancy (0–1 year)
● Toddlerhood (1–3 years)
● Preschool (3–5 years)
● Early Primary (6–8 years)
2. Research Developmental Milestones:
Use credible sources (textbooks, WHO, CDC, or academic references) to identify 3-4
milestones from each domain for the chosen age group.
3. Design the Play Activity:
Devise a creative play-based activity (e.g., sensory play, role play, physical games, puzzles,
creative arts) that:
● Enhances motor skills (Physical)
● Encourages social interaction and emotional expression (Psycho-social)
● Stimulates thinking, memory, and decision-making (Cognitive)
4. Create the Model:
● Construct a 3D model of your play activity using craft materials, cardboard, clay or
any other relevant products.
● Include labels or callouts explaining how the model reflects each developmental
domain.
5. Prepare Your Presentation:
● A 5–7 minute oral presentation.
● Explain:
- Why the play is age-appropriate
- Which milestones it targets
- How it benefits development
6. Submission Guidelines:
● Model Submission Date: 08/09/2025
● Format: Physical model + Presentation.
