Friendship Questionnaire (FQ)

The Friendship Questionnaire, designed bySimon Baron-Cohenby Sally Wheelwright, it

presented in the following publication:
. Baron-Cohen, S.; Wheelwright, S.The Friendship Questionnaire: An Investigation of
Adults with Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism, and Normal Sex
Differences. Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders 2003; 33(5):509–517

The questionnaire has been translated directly from its original source. Regarding gender,
when possible, neutral expressions such as "someone" or "some" have been chosen
"people". On other occasions, the masculine form has been chosen as generic.
thus avoiding the "o/a", "él/ella" formula that takes away so much naturalness from language and assuming
in the reader the elemental capacity for interpretation.

How to interpret the result?

Friendship is an important part of normal social functioning, despite the
There are very few instruments to measure individual differences in this field.
The Friendship Questionnaire, created for personal use by adults of normal intelligence,
characterizes those who obtain a high score as empathetic people and that
they cultivate their friendships; interested in people and enjoy interacting
with others without needing another motivation to do so.

The maximum score is 135, and the minimum is 0. Simon Baron-Cohen conducted two studies.
with the questionnaire, the first of them with 76 adults (27 men and 49 women) of the
general population (control group) and the second with 68 adults (51 men and 17 women)
affected by Asperger's syndrome or high-functioning autism, in order to
to verify the theory that autism is an extreme form of male brain.
experiments confirmed that women score better and that those affected
for autism spectrum disorders score significantly lower than the
men and women of the control group. Therefore, the Friendship Questionnaire reveals a
difference between sexes in friendship style in the general population and reaffirms the theory
of the extremely male brain of autism.
