Diagnosis instructions
Perform the diagnostic system check - Vehicle before using this diagnostic procedure.
Review the diagnosis based on strategies to obtain an overview of the diagnostic approach.
The diagnostic procedure instructions provide an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptors
DTC P0521
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor (EOP) Performance
DTC P0522
Low voltage in the engine oil pressure sensor circuit (EOP)
DTC P0523
High voltage in the oil pressure sensor circuit of the engine (EOP)
The ECM detects that the measured oil pressure is at least 47 kPa (6.8 psi) lower or 50 kPa (7.3 psi) higher than the expected oil pressure.
The engine oil pressure is outside a calculated working range determined by the engine speed and temperature.
One of the previous conditions is present for more than 4 seconds.
P0522
The ECM detects that the signal circuit of the EOP sensor is below 0.1V.
The previous condition is present for more than 10 seconds.
P0523
The ECM detects that the signal circuit of the EOP sensor is higher than 4.4V.
The previous condition is present for more than 10 seconds.

DTC P0521 can be set if the engine oil pressure is outside the calculated oil pressure model stored in the control module.
engine. This may be an indication of mechanical problems in the engine that cause lower than expected engine oil pressure. Restrict the flow of oil to the
oil pressure sensor of the engine (like a blocked valve lifter oil filter (if equipped)) can also cause an oil pressure reading
lower than the actual oil pressure of the engine.

Circuit/System Test
Note: The verification of the circuit/system must be carried out before continuing with the testing of the circuit/system.
1. Turned OFF, disconnect the connector of the wiring harness from the engine oil pressure sensor (EOP).
2. ON OFF, check if there is less than 10Ω between the low reference circuit terminal listed below and ground:
Low reference terminal 1 (LU3)
Reference low terminal 3 (-LU3)
If it is greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit to detect a high or open resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the
ECM.
3. Power ON, test from 4.8 to 5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal indicated below and ground:
Reference terminal 2 of 5 V (LU3)
Reference terminal 2 of 5 V (-LU3)
If it is below the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests
normal, replace the ECM.
If it is greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a voltage short. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
4. Check that the oil pressure sensor parameter of the exploration tool's engine is below 8 kPa (1.2 psi).
If it is greater than the specified range, check the signal circuit terminal listed below for a voltage short or resistance.
open / high. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
If it is below the specified range, check the signal circuit for a ground short or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal,
replace the ECM.
6. If all circuits pass a normal test, test or replace the EOP sensor.
Repair instructions
Perform the diagnostic repair verification after completing the repair.
